"What boyfriend? Who said we gave our permission?" the middle-aged woman barked sharply.
"Li Gang, our Xiaoli is set to be engaged to Wei Shuai tomorrow. You should just abandon those foolish thoughts."
"What engagement? I never agreed to any of this!" Wu Li shouted in urgent protest.
"Your agreement isn't required. Your father and I are the ones deciding this," Wu Li's mother declared with absolute authority.
"What century are we living in? Are arranged marriages still a thing?"
Wang Yue's voice suddenly cut through the air.
Because the hallway was quite cramped and Li Gang’s frame was so tall and bulky, the others hadn't even realized Wang Yue was standing there until he spoke.
"This is a private family matter. What business is it of yours?" Wu Li’s mother looked at Wang Yue’s youthful, boyish face with pure contempt, waving her hand as if shooing a fly.
"Go play somewhere else, you little brat!"
Li Gang panicked instantly. He didn't care if Wu Li’s mother insulted or struck him, but speaking to Wang Yue in such a tone was unforgivable. He fixed her with a fierce glare and roared, "Auntie, you cannot speak to the Young Master like that!"
"Young Master? What Young Master?" Wu Li’s mother was stunned. She had known Li Gang for a long time; despite his size, he was usually mild-mannered and stayed calm around strangers.
He had always shown her deep respect as Wu Li’s mother, never once raising his voice to her like this.
This brought back the rumors she had heard: that He Qiong’s family had found a powerful benefactor and had risen in status.
After Li Gang’s previous accident, Wu Li had insisted on staying by his side, even threatening to die with him. Fearing they would be dragged down too, her parents had grabbed their daughter and run away. Consequently, they hadn't seen how Wang Yue had stepped in to save the Li family.
She remained skeptical of the gossip. She assumed that even if He Qiong’s family had help, they were likely just doing low-level chores for some rich person. What kind of real success could come from that?
Wei Shuai was a different story. His family owned a factory and supposedly had ties to martial arts groups. To her, he was the perfect husband.
"What 'Young Master'? These days, plenty of people act like they're special just because they have a bit of money," Wei Shuai remarked with a sneer, eyeing Wang Yue. "Tell me, who are you and what family do you represent?"
"The name is Wang Yue. I am of the Wang family from Jinling," Wang Yue answered with a calm, steady smile.
Wei Shuai’s entire body began to shake, and he hit the floor with a heavy thud, falling to his knees. He delivered two hard slaps to his own face and cried out, "So it is Lord Wang! I was blind and failed to recognize your greatness. Damn my eyes!"
While the surname Wang was common in Jinling, only one lineage was truly recognized as the 'Jinling Wang Family.'
Furthermore, Wei Shuai had seen photos of Wang Yue before. He simply hadn't expected someone of Wang Yue’s stature to be hanging around people like this, so the thought hadn't crossed his mind.
But the moment Wang Yue spoke his name, he knew immediately—it was really him!
"That's enough. You aren't needed here anymore," Wang Yue said, dismissing him with a casual flick of his wrist. He had no desire to torment Wei Shuai further; the difference in their status was so vast that it wasn't even worth the effort.
After all, Wei Shuai was just there for a blind date; he hadn't actually committed a crime.
Acting as though he had been granted a divine pardon, Wei Shuai scrambled away, practically tumbling down the stairs in his haste to escape.
Wu Li and her mother stood there, completely paralyzed by shock.
Though they weren't as well-informed as Wei Shuai and hadn't seen Wang Yue's face before, they knew exactly what the "Jinling Wang Family" represented.
To people of their standing, the Young Master of that family was equivalent to a prince of old.
Meeting such a figure was beyond their wildest dreams. Yet, here Wang Yue was, standing right in front of them.
Ignoring their stunned expressions, Wang Yue turned to Li Gang. "Let’s head inside. We can talk at your place."
"Understood," Li Gang replied. He guided Wu Li to his apartment, unlocked the door, and the three of them entered.
Wu Li’s mother didn't dare follow. The presence of the Wang family's Young Master was simply too overwhelming for her.
Once they were settled inside, Wang Yue saw that Wu Li was still trembling with nerves. He offered a gentle smile. "Just speak your mind. Pretend I'm not even in the room."
Li Gang chimed in, "It's okay, Xiao Li. The Young Master is very kind. There's no need to be afraid."
Wu Li’s eyes welled with tears as she gripped Li Gang’s arm tightly. "Where have you been lately? I couldn't find you, and I couldn't get through to your phone!"
"The Young Master sent me away for specialized training. The location is top-secret, so I wasn't allowed to use any phones," Li Gang explained with an apologetic look. "But you should have been able to reach my mother or Yingying."
"But Auntie He and Yingying have been gone this whole time too. I can't get a hold of either of them," Wu Li whispered.
Wang Yue pieced it together instantly. Li Yingying was likely training with Yu Yan and had disabled her phone at his instruction. As for He Qiong, since her children were away, she had probably moved into the Chen Family Mansion to be more efficient. She was a disciplined, grateful woman. Her job was at the very center of the Chen Family's operations, so she likely turned off her phone out of professional courtesy, even if no one forced her to.
Li Gang, however, was unaware of these details and grew frantic. "You mean my mom and sister haven't been home? And they're unreachable?"
Wu Li nodded sadly.
Wang Yue reassured him with a smile. "Don't panic, Li Gang. Your mother is almost certainly staying at the Chen Family Mansion. Her work is sensitive, which explains the phone. As for your sister, she’s doing incredible things. She was recruited by a powerful master and is currently undergoing Cultivation under his guidance."
"A master? How strong is he?" Li Gang asked reflexively.
"Not as physically big as you; he's barely over 170 centimeters," Wang Yue joked. "But his Cultivation is immense—at the very least, he is in the Guizhen Realm."
"The Guizhen Realm?! At minimum?" Li Gang was floored, his face lighting up with joy.
After training at the Wang Family base for nearly two weeks, he was no longer ignorant about the world of warriors. He knew exactly what the Guizhen Realm signified. That was a level of power that even the three great families struggled to match. For his sister to have such a legendary mentor was a massive stroke of luck!
Wu Li was lost, having no idea what Cultivation or the Guizhen Realm meant. However, she understood the core message: Li Yingying had found a great opportunity and was becoming a powerful warrior.
Being neighbors, Wu Li was close with Yingying and felt genuinely happy for her success.
Wang Yue then looked toward Wu Li. "You've likely surmised it by now. Yingying is a warrior. And she isn't the only one—Li Gang has become a warrior as well."
Wu Li looked at Wang Yue, but instead of awe, her face showed worry. Was he trying to tell her she wasn't good enough for Li Gang anymore? Now that Li Gang was a powerful warrior, were they in different worlds?
Wang Yue went on, "However, Li Gang seems to have run into a bit of trouble during his training. It's a matter I can't really help with personally. I need you to investigate. if there is a real issue, we need to fix it immediately."
"What's wrong? Is he hurt?" Wu Li asked, her concern for Li Gang’s well-being overriding her shyness.
"It appears there is no physical response from his lower body. We aren't certain yet, which is why I need your assistance," Wang Yue said bluntly.
Wu Li’s face turned a deep shade of crimson, but she nodded. This wasn't just about Li Gang’s health; it involved her own future happiness as well.
"Since you're willing, take Li Gang into the bedroom and check things out," Wang Yue suggested.
With a bright red face, Wu Li nodded again. She took hold of a confused Li Gang and led him toward the bedroom.
