Urban Romantic Divine Doctor Chapter 1, Beautiful Sister-in-Law
```
Qingyuan County.
With a canvas bag slung over his shoulder, two live chickens, a basket brimming with fresh eggs, and a wild turtle, Xu Wendong emerged from the bus station, his gaze sweeping across the surroundings.
This city wasn't an unfamiliar landscape for him; he had spent three formative years attending high school within Qingyuan County. Although he hadn't secured admission to a top-tier university, he had still managed to enroll in the provincial medical college.
Under ordinary circumstances, successfully completing four years of college would typically pave the way for a stable job at a hospital, the prospect of meeting a woman he fancied, and eventually starting a family.
However, these carefully laid plans and future aspirations were irrevocably shattered by the sudden passing of his grandfather.
Xu Wendong's grandfather had served as the village's Barefoot Doctor. From his earliest years, he had resided with his grandfather in the village, absorbing rudimentary medical knowledge through keen observation. This close proximity had ignited within young Xu Wendong the ambition to become a doctor and dedicate his life to saving others.
But with his grandfather's unexpected demise, the financial burden of exorbitant tuition fees and daily living expenses became insurmountable. He was compelled to abandon his studies, leaving him adrift with no clear direction. The village chief, in an act of kindness, pointed him toward a potential haven: seeking shelter with his cousin, Xu Wenjian, in the county town.
"Old man, how could you leave so suddenly?"
"You imparted to me the ways of integrity and the art of healing, yet you never taught me how to depend on others!" Xu Wendong murmured with a sigh.
Half an hour elapsed.
He found himself before Building 3, Unit 1, Room 301, in the Happiness Community, having arrived via a motorcycle taxi.
Yet, a sense of irresolution washed over him as he contemplated ringing the doorbell.
Despite having grown up alongside his cousin, Xu Wenjian, and sharing a generally amicable relationship, he had heard whispers that his cousin had taken a city woman as his wife.
Furthermore, she was reputed to possess a rather dominant personality. A seed of doubt was planted: would this sister-in-law look down upon him, or would his presence disrupt the couple's established rhythm of life?
Drawing a fortifying breath, Xu Wendong finally extended his finger to press the doorbell integrated into the fingerprint lock.
"Coming, coming!"
A voice laced with a hint of impatience emanated from the living room. Moments later, the door swung open, revealing a woman who appeared to be in her mid-twenties. She was tall, with a cascade of large, wavy hair, clad in black lace sleepwear, presenting herself before him.
Her face was exquisitely sculpted, her eyes clear and luminous, framed by gracefully arched brows and lashes that trembled delicately. Her skin was fair and unblemished, graced with a subtle blush, and her lips, reminiscent of rose petals, were both delicate and captivating.
Her figure was a symphony of curves, enhanced by the revealing nature of her lace attire, exuding an almost lethal magnetism.
Her elegant, swan-like neck flowed into a pristine white expanse, hinting at a cleavage that seemed to stretch into an endless abyss, leaving Xu Wendong utterly mesmerized.
Though he had encountered numerous attractive women during his university years, none could compare to the striking appearance and alluring figure of the woman before him, who radiated the unique enchantment of a mature and sophisticated lady.
She was akin to a perfectly ripened peach, on the verge of releasing its delectable, sweet nectar with the slightest touch, an irresistible temptation.
Observing this unsophisticated country fellow, whose gaze felt somewhat intrusive, Lin Yiren let out a snort of disdain. "What are you staring at? Haven't you ever laid eyes on a beautiful woman before? Who are you, and what business do you have at my home?"
Xu Wendong was abruptly pulled back to the present reality. "Hello, Sister-in-law," he stammered nervously, "My name is Xu Wendong."
Lin Yiren, her expression one of barely concealed disgust, replied, "Your brother mentioned you. He's working late today, though. You can come in and have a seat." She subtly adjusted the neckline of her sleepwear, perhaps to shield herself from the perceived impertinence of this country bumpkin.
Xu Wendong slipped into a pair of slippers and, with a palpable sense of nervousness, followed Lin Yiren into the somewhat dimly lit apartment.
The dwelling, a three-bedroom, two-living room layout, was adorned with a warm and inviting decor.
"Just take those things to the kitchen, please," Lin Yiren instructed impatiently, drawing back the curtains. She added, "I'm going to change. There's fruit on the coffee table; help yourself."
"Understood, Sister-in-law." Despite Lin Yiren's apparent displeasure, Xu Wendong recognized the necessity of navigating this situation with tact, given that he was now a guest under her roof.
After depositing the local delicacies in the kitchen, Xu Wendong rejoined Lin Yiren in the living room. His attention was drawn to the vibrant assortment of fruits artfully arranged in a bowl on the coffee table: fragrant melons, ruby-red cherries, plump strawberries, and juicy peaches.
These fruits appeared to be quite costly. Spotting a cucumber resting beside the fruit bowl, he picked it up and began to bite into it. After all, it was an inexpensive item, and consuming it would alleviate any potential feelings of guilt or imposition.
However.
After just a few bites, Xu Wendong's brow furrowed in puzzlement. "Why does this have a jasmine scent? Is it some kind of special variety?"
At this precise moment.
Lin Yiren emerged, now dressed in a delicate white floral dress. She let out a small gasp of surprise upon witnessing Xu Wendong consuming the cucumber, clearly caught off guard by his action.
Recalling the preceding events, a faint blush crept onto her cheeks. She should have intervened and stopped Xu Wendong, given that the cucumber in question had not been properly cleaned.
But then again, if she denied him even something as simple as a cucumber, wouldn't that make her appear exceedingly petty?
More importantly.
She absolutely could not allow him to discover that she herself had recently used that very cucumber.
"Make yourself at home. Your brother should be back soon!" Lin Yiren said calmly, gracefully taking a seat on the sofa and instinctively reaching for the remote to turn on the television.
Just as the TV screen flickered to life, a slightly shrill and urgent voice startled Xu Wendong. Before he could even turn his head, Lin Yiren quickly slammed the power button, her face flushing crimson. She had completely forgotten that she had been watching an adult movie her husband had downloaded in the living room, a realization that made her desperately wish for a hole to swallow her up.
Without much further thought, she briskly changed the topic, offering, "Well, the weather is quite hot today, how about you take a shower first?"
"Um, okay," Xu Wendong replied obediently. He then proceeded to pull out a washed-out T-shirt and a pair of torn jeans from his canvas bag.
This sight caused Lin Yiren to frown, the disdain in her eyes becoming more pronounced. She spoke coldly, "Since you're in town, you should dress decently. I don't want the neighbors gossiping that we have a poor relative staying with us. We can't afford to lose face like that."
"Wait a moment, I'll find you some clothes."
A short while later, she returned holding a Ginza Shopping Mall shopping bag. She said casually, "These are clothes I bought for my brother, but I mistakenly purchased the wrong size, and I haven't had the chance to exchange them. You look a bit bigger than him, though. Try them on, and if they fit, they're yours!"
Xu Wendong expressed his gratitude, saying, "Thank you, sister-in-law. Once I start making money, I will definitely repay your kindness."
Lin Yiren simply shrugged, her expression indifferent. "We'll talk about repayment when you actually make some money!" she retorted, settling back onto the sofa and engrossed in her phone.
Xu Wendong entered the bathroom, his head bowed, fully aware that his sister-in-law harbored no goodwill towards him.
On second thought, he mused, it actually made perfect sense.
Who would genuinely welcome a penniless relative moving into their home, potentially disrupting a couple's happy life?
"I need to find a job soon. Relying on others is not a sustainable plan," he thought to himself.
Splash! Water sounds echoed.
Listening to the splashing water emanating from the bathroom, Lin Yiren's sense of irritation intensified. She already possessed a strong aversion to uncleanliness, let alone having a country bumpkin suddenly residing in her house and sharing a bathroom.
As she instinctively glanced towards the bathroom, Xu Wendong's silhouette faintly appeared through the frosted glass. This caused her to frown, wondering aloud, "Is this guy showering with his belt still on?"
