Urban Divine Doctor Descends the Mountain Chapter 2 - 2 2 Keep My Secret for Me

Previously on Urban Divine Doctor Descends the Mountain...
Lin Dong, a young Taoist disciple arriving in Jianghai to experience the secular world and advance his cultivation, is lured by a woman on an electric bike to a dimly lit inn under the pretense of cheap lodging. Settling into a small room, he orders 'take-out' at the Red Bull price, unaware it's a euphemism for companionship. The graceful woman who enters for the service turns out to be his village acquaintance, the stunning Sister Bai Jue—his clan brother's wife—leading to mutual recognition and tense silence in the romantic red glow.

Chapter 2: Chapter 2 Keep My Secret for Me Chapter 2: Chapter 2 Keep My Secret for Me Yet right then, a recollection flooded Lin Dong’s thoughts—the image of Sister Bai Jue handing him red envelope money on Lunar New Year.

He berated himself inwardly for acting like such a monster.

He hurriedly shook his head, “Sister Bai Jue, are you facing some kind of hidden trouble?”

Bai Jue struggled to find the words.

“Don’t keep probing, can you act like you don’t recognize me?” she replied while reaching out to touch Lin Dong once more, attempting to pick up where they had paused.

Lin Dong swiftly shoved her aside.

She tumbled onto the floor, appearing utterly forlorn.

“Do you… do you see me as filthy?”

Lin Dong gestured dismissively in embarrassment, “No, Sister Bai Jue, that’s not my intention at all…”

“Then simply act like you don’t know me.” Bai Jue dropped to her knees on the ground, gazing up at Lin Dong with a pleading expression.

Lin Dong’s face grew stern. *He never imagined that “take-out” implied something like this.*

*If he had realized, he wouldn’t have placed that take-out order.*

The standoff between them dragged on until abruptly, a coarse shout erupted from beyond the door.

“Old Lady Chen, word is there’s fresh tea available here today. This evening, I, Tiger Master, intend to sample it.”

“Oh dear, Tiger Master, what brings you here? Apologies, but the new tea is currently serving a customer.”

The voice of the elderly woman who had led Lin Dong inside rang out.

“Why not just boot that customer away?”

“That’s not proper, Tiger Master. Everything follows the rule of first arrival first.”

“Smack!” The sharp sound of a slap reverberated.

“Damn you! You mention first come, first served in this line of work? Where’s that customer? I demand the opening cup of tea today!”

After the slap, the old lady turned compliant and revealed the room’s number.

Moments later, heavy footsteps approached and halted right outside Lin Dong’s room.

Since the pair’s voices had boomed loudly earlier, Lin Dong and Bai Jue had caught every word distinctly.

Right away, terror drained the color from Bai Jue’s cheeks.

“This is trouble, Dongzi. It sounds like Lin Hu, the local gang boss, is on his way.”

“Thud~” Precisely then, a door crashed open with a kick, and a muscular figure strode in— a man with a black dragon tattoo snaking up his arm, clad in beach shorts and sporting a thick gold chain around his neck.

Upon entering, his gaze raked over Bai Jue with a burning intensity.

“Today’s newcomer is top-notch. She outshines every woman I’ve been with so far, in body and beauty,” Lin Hu cackled wildly.

This lady rivaled a celebrity in allure!

Luck was on his side this night.

“Here, darling, come over to me.”

He flashed a toothy grin, exposing rows of yellow teeth stained by cigarettes.

A mix of dread and revulsion washed over Bai Jue.

The thought of attending to a brute like him made her wish for death.

“No, stay back… I’ve already been reserved,” Bai Jue stammered, her voice quivering.

“Hah, what’s this? You scorn me? Figure that boy beats Tiger Master? Naive fool, sure he might appear finer than me, but he’s nothing but a quick-finish type.” As Lin Hu ranted, his large palm swung toward Bai Jue’s rear.

But in that instant, another hand clamped onto his inked wrist.

Lin Hu’s brows furrowed; the one holding him back was the young man nearby.

“Get lost!” Lin Hu snarled with the ferocity of a beast.

Lin Dong let out a cold huff, “You’re the one who needs to scram!”

“You’re courting death!” Lin Hu bellowed, veins popping along his arm as his free fist swung at Lin Dong.

“Snap~~” With a casual flick, Lin Dong wrenched and snapped one of the man’s arms.

“Argh~~” Lin Hu howled in pain. He hadn’t anticipated this seemingly flashy kid to actually be some kind of fighter.

“Thump~” Lin Dong followed up with a kick to his gut.

In a flash, Lin Hu’s hefty frame, weighing almost 200 pounds, soared back and slammed into the wall.

“Pfft~~” Lin Hu coughed up blood, his appearance wretched.

Despite that, he clenched his jaw and spat threats, “Brat, you dare strike me? You’re as good as dead!!”

“Hmph, you’re the one facing doom. You’re clueless about your brain tumor; you’ve got less than half a month left!” Lin Dong sneered, gearing up to further punish Lin Hu.

However, just then, Bai Jue darted forward and tugged at him, urging:

“Dongzi, we need to flee now. If his crew shows up, we’re finished.”

Lin Dong held no fear, regardless of the numbers.

Yet for Sister Bai Jue’s sake, Lin Dong chose not to prolong the stay.

A brawl drawing in crowds could summon cops, and getting nabbed would tarnish Sister Bai Jue’s name.

“On account of Sister Bai Jue, I’ll let you off this time. Besides, your days are numbered anyway.”

Lin Dong declared, grasping Sister Bai Jue’s hand as they departed.

Old Lady Chen didn’t dare block their path, given his boldness against Lin Hu.

Once Lin Dong and Bai Jue had gone, Old Lady Chen anxiously suggested, “Tiger Master, should we head to the hospital for a check? That boy mentioned a brain tumor, saying you won’t last over half a month…”

“Smack!” Lin Hu slapped her again, “Your damn head’s the one with a tumor!”

“Hurry up and fetch every detail on that woman’s family, their addresses and all—uncover who they are. I’ll make sure they pay!”

Old Lady Chen refrained from defiance, clutching her cheek and nodding submissively.

Exiting the alley, Lin Dong and Sister Bai Jue flagged down a cab on the roadside.

Bai Jue provided the destination, and the vehicle sped toward their home.

Inside the taxi, Bai Jue stared at her lap in silence.

Lin Dong sensed the unease too.

He could sense Sister Bai Jue was new to such pursuits; her behavior screamed of some underlying compulsion.

Still, amid the cab ride, Lin Dong held back from prying deeper.

Before long, they pulled into an urban village.

Stepping out, they navigated the grimy, bustling lanes of the village, where Bai Jue brushed away her tears:

“Dongzi, your brother sold off our home. We’re now renting in this rundown spot. Having you stay with us means we’re not hosting you well.”

Lin Dong shook his head; he felt no sense of neglect.

His mind buzzed with questions, “Sister Bai Jue, what happened? Why would Brother Jian sell the house?”

“And Sister Bai Jue, why resort to that sort of work?”

Shame burned through Bai Jue, flushing her cheeks.

All at once, in the shadowy passage, Bai Jue pinned Lin Dong to the wall.

“Dongzi, please drop the questions? Keep it from others, do me this favor and guard Sister Bai Jue’s secret.”

“If you promise to hold Sister Bai Jue’s secret”

Vrrr~~~~

Trapped against the wall by Sister Bai Jue, Lin Dong felt heat surging through his entire being…
