Unrivaled Medicine God Chapter 4: Questioning
Previously on Unrivaled Medicine God...
The one who signaled to the attendant was none other than Ye Yuan, who had been standing nearby throughout.
Spotting Ye Yuan's intervention, the attendant wavered since Ye Yuan held the title of young master at Fragrant Medicine Pavilion. With his infamous reputation to boot, the attendant wouldn't dare cross him.
"Uncle Qian, that prescription is off. It could claim a life," Ye Yuan approached and murmured softly.
Ye Yuan had shed the useless traits of his former self. Sharing the same fate now, he aimed to uphold the predecessor's dignity, thus speaking in hushed tones.
This esteemed master went by Qian Miao. A long-time retainer in the Ye family, he enjoyed high standing and respect. Though his skill in the Dao of Alchemy fell short of Ye Hang's, he was far from ordinary. Hearing such drivel from a youngster twisted his face in an instant.
"Little Yuan, what rubbish is this? Causing chaos daily is one matter, but sabotaging your father's hard-built enterprise is another. This Old Qian won't let you off easily! Remember, Fragrant Medicine Pavilion's current glory stems not just from the family head—we old folks poured in massive effort too. Now scram. Plenty of patients await treatment."
Qian Miao cherished Fragrant Medicine Pavilion deeply and had scant tolerance for Ye Yuan. A tiger sires no dog son, yet this one was a mere pup. Qian Miao had pitied Ye Hang countless times before.
Today, this rascal dared climb over him to stir trouble and even accused him of endangering lives. How could his face not darken? Were it not for this fool being Ye Hang's boy, a slap would have sent him sprawling long ago.
Ye Yuan anticipated Qian Miao's response fully. His prior self had been quite the handful, after all. Thus, the sharp rebuke slid off him.
Without Qian Miao's error tarnishing Fragrant Medicine Pavilion's name, Ye Yuan would have stayed silent, preserving his wastrel facade.
Sticking to that flawed prescription meant the burly man before them wouldn't just fail to recover—it would worsen the toxin fatally. Survival past tonight seemed unlikely.
For Fragrant Medicine Pavilion, demonic beast hunters as patrons formed a key revenue stream. Facing peril daily, their scrapes and wounds were routine. Venturing in and out of Boundless Forest demanded detox and healing pills as must-haves. Hence, these hunters proved vital to the Ye Family's coffers.
Should this burly man perish here, it would shatter the Ye Family's standing among demonic beast hunters. Rivals might seize the chance to undermine Fragrant Medicine Pavilion, inflicting incalculable damage.
After weighing it all, Ye Yuan stepped forward to correct Qian Miao's diagnostic blunder.
Before Ye Yuan could speak further, Lu-er at his side couldn't hold back. Pouting, she told Qian Miao, "Young Master isn't spouting nonsense. He has solid grounds for saying so."
Ye Yuan shot Lu-er a surprised look, musing inwardly how deeply this girl trusted him.
His former self had toyed with her plenty, yet despite that low character, Lu-er backed him up?
Her faith warmed him, but Ye Yuan knew her words had spiked the challenge. Offending a veteran like Qian Miao was unwise, especially with two youngsters challenging his expertise.
Sure enough, Qian Miao's face grew stormier. In a grave tone, he demanded, "You ignorant little girl, care to explain how I'm harming folks? For Seven Evils Flowing Cloud Python venom, even Ye Hang would handle it this way. You two greenhorns dare doubt my formula? Explain now, or brace for punishment!"
Though Qian Miao often acted aloof, he never stooped to dirty tricks. No one in the Ye Family crossed him lightly. But these young troublemakers left him no room to yield. Failing to assert dominance would erode his place there.
The burly man hadn't foreseen this clash either. He froze in bewilderment—what infighting was this?
Qian Miao's renown, while shy of Ye Hang's, remained solid. Even across Fragrant Medicine Pavilion, he ranked as a top expert. One side boasted a famed healer, the other a callow youth. Any idiot knew whom to believe.
The burly man hadn't recognized the youth at first, but Qian Miao's outburst clued him in. Was this Master Ye's notorious wastrel son?
As a demonic beast hunter, he stayed abreast of capital gossip. This young master's notoriety outshone even Master Qian's.
For such a good-for-nothing to challenge Master Qian's verdict? Was this brat itching for mischief to endanger his life?
That thought ignited fury in the burly man. He'd wronged no one, yet nearly fell victim pointlessly. What malice dwelled in this youth!
"Brother, Master Qian is seeing to me now. Kindly don't meddle," the burly man said lowly. Polite on surface, his aim was clear: leave.
Absent the Ye Family's untouchable status, his tone would have turned far harsher.
"Hey, Warrior, bear with me briefly. I've devoted my life to the Dao of Medicinal Pills, curing myriad mortals and martial artists without ever being called a killer. Ye Yuan, speak up today—how am I harming him?!"
Qian Miao's obstinacy surged. He resolved to school Ye Yuan before dropping it.
"This... Master Qian, the toxin in me grows dire with delay. Please quell your anger and detox me first. They're just clueless kids talking big." Unprepared for Qian Miao's resolve, the burly man sought to soothe him.
Yet Qian Miao dismissed it with a wave. "Fear not; it won't drag on. I grasp this venom well enough not to let you perish. Without clearing this up today, how could I face diagnosing here tomorrow?"
With that, he whirled to Ye Yuan, scowling. "Speak then! Fail to justify, and don't cry foul if I pull rank and you whine to your father."
Ye Yuan lingered silently until Qian Miao prodded, then stated evenly, "The toxin afflicting this warrior stems not from the Seven Evils Flowing Cloud Python."
"Balderdash! My comrades died to its bite. I barely escaped alive. You saying I misidentified it? Foolish whelp, no grudge between us—why seek my demise?" the warrior cut in before Ye Yuan finished.
"Hahaha..." Qian Miao roared with laughter, nearly weeping, before declaring, "Hear that? Total ignorance! Naive fool, beat it now! Persist in troublemaking, and I'll summon guards to toss you out!"
Qian Miao had pinpointed the warrior's venom instantly, proof enough in itself. Plus, fresh from the python's jaws, how could the warrior err on the beast?
Demonic beast hunters tangled with such creatures daily. Beyond kin, none knew them better, slashing misidentification odds.
"Scram already! Stop blocking Master Qian's work!"
"This brat's wrecking his old man's trade. Beyond saving!"
"Had I such a son, I'd have pummeled him to mush ages ago."
Now, the onlookers enjoying the spectacle joined in, deeming it Ye Yuan's farce and urging him gone.
In that instant, Lu-er's earlier boldness faded; timidly clutching Ye Yuan's sleeve, she didn't back off but advanced, shielding him lest violence erupt.
Ye Yuan felt a stir in his heart but shook his head calmly before responding, "What your eyes beheld may deceive you. This warrior's toxin derives not from a Seven Evils Flowing Cloud Python, but from a Seven-Colored Flowing Cloud Python."
