Unable to Cultivate, I Can Only Raise Soul Pets Chapter 3

As Wang Che finally exited his room, he observed his mother gently interacting with the green caterpillar.
“Old Wang, why don’t we take the day off work today? We can take Little Che and this little one out for some relaxation,” his mother suggested.
“But wasn’t he planning to go out with his friends?” Father Wang inquired.
“I know, but have you considered their destination? It’s a soul pet training base! He has several good friends who are all keen on acquiring soul pet eggs from there. If Little Che tags along, wouldn’t his dejection worsen? How could he possibly endure that?”
“Ah, I had indeed forgotten about that! Very well…”
While the couple were in conversation, Wang Che emerged from the room.
“There’s no need,” he interjected abruptly.
“…” Both parents were left momentarily speechless.
Wang Che looked towards his parents and stated calmly, “I will be going out later.”
“Little Che, are you alright?” Mother Wang questioned him with a bewildered expression. She wondered how he had managed to recover from his low spirits so swiftly.
“I am fine,” Wang Che responded with a slight smile.
“Then, earlier during breakfast, why were you…?” Father Wang suspected that his son might be masking his true feelings once more, similar to the previous day.
“I had a nightmare last night,” Wang Che explained nonchalantly. “It had nothing to do with my soul pet.”
“I see,” Father Wang replied, nodding his head. “What sort of nightmare was it? How severe was it to make you appear so utterly crestfallen this morning?”
Wang Che glanced at his father, paused briefly, and then answered,
“In my dream, you revealed your true identity as a Titled Heavenly King across the seven major war zones of the Martial Soul Federation. You informed me that you had been concealing yourself in the mortal realm to experience life.”
Upon hearing this, Father Wang was startled. After a moment’s pause, he exclaimed with a mixture of shock and delight, “You had such a wonderful dream? Why didn’t I get to experience it myself… Oh, wait, this is a good dream! Then why did you look as if you were having a nightmare?”
Wang Che continued, “Just as I was becoming excited, you suddenly declared that I was not your biological child, but rather someone you found on the streets. In my dream, I had no relation to you.”
This seemed to render Father Wang speechless once more before he responded, “That was indeed a frightening nightmare. No wonder you looked so dazed.”
Mother Wang nodded in agreement.
After all, the Titled Heavenly Kings stood as the most formidable Contract Soul Masters in existence.
Merely their titles exuded both glory and power.
Every Contract Soul Master held them in reverence and aspired to reach their formidable level.
If only Wang Che had truly possessed the bloodline of a Heavenly King, his martial soul would not have been so frail.
However, if there was no familial connection… then…
“Are you bringing this little one along?” Mother Wang inquired, gently tapping the green caterpillar’s soft head.
“Naturally,” Wang Che replied, looking at the creature. “It is my soul pet.”
He then squatted down, extending a hand towards the caterpillar.
“Ssss!”
The green caterpillar instantly pulled its body back, fearing another flick.
Realizing that Wang Che intended no harm, it slowly edged towards his finger and nudged it with its head, cautiously testing the situation.
A few seconds later, it cautiously wriggled into Wang Che’s palm.
With its curved, glass-like eyes darting about, the tiny caterpillar appeared to be filled with happiness.
Witnessing this, Wang Che inwardly sighed as he carefully placed the young pet into his chest pocket.
He recalled having several different pets in his previous existence.
Each of them had been regarded as divine beasts within the cultivation world.
Yet, this current bug he possessed as a pet was so incredibly weak…
Wang Che reassured himself, ‘It’s alright, this shouldn’t be a problem.’
The moment he stepped outside his home, the crisp morning air filled his nostrils, imparting a sense of profound refreshment.
After drawing a deep breath, Wang Che directed his gaze upwards towards the azure sky and the towering structures in the distance.
Even though he resided in an ordinary neighborhood, the surrounding environment was quite pleasant.
The vicinity was adorned with a particular type of plant known as Silver Flowers. These blossoms, besides their visual appeal, possessed the ability to purify the air and emit a delightful fragrance.
They were the primary green plants chosen for cultivation in most urban areas.
Of course, despite their unique properties, Silver Flowers were merely special plants, not soul beasts.
Furthermore, several Cloud Trees were also present in Wang Che’s neighborhood.
These trees featured slender trunks of a light purple hue, and as their name implied, the foliage spreading from their branches resembled clouds in the sky in its pure white color.
The Cloud Trees also possessed the remarkable ability to illuminate in darkness, creating a spectacular sight at night.
Similar to Silver Flowers, standard Cloud Trees were not soul beasts. They were simply another type of specialized flora.
As Wang Che made his way out of the small residential area, he observed numerous individuals accompanied by their soul pets, actively engaged in their routines.
What he noticed was that the majority of them were quite ordinary soul beasts.
However, he did manage to see a few rare ones.
After all, it wasn't entirely out of reach for a regular family to acquire a rare soul pet egg, provided they were willing to forgo other expenses.
Upon reaching the aerial platform, Wang Che boarded the maglev train, heading directly towards the city's sole soul beast training facility.
At the present time, the world was governed by a single, highly centralized authority.
This was known as the Martial Soul Federation.
Beneath the Federation existed seven distinct war zones, each holding the status of a nation.
These war zones were further subdivided into numerous continental cities.
Wang Che found himself within the Eastern War Zone, specifically in Skyheart City on the West Peak Continent.
After twenty stops, he disembarked, immediately confronted by the towering, bird's nest-like edifice before him.
This structure was the Skyheart Soul Beast Base.
The building had been constructed against the mountainside, harmonizing with the landscape of the West Peak Continent, which was characterized by its abundant forests and lush vegetation.
Due to its rich natural environment, most soul beasts native to this continent were of the flying, rock, ground, grass, and insect varieties.
“Wang Che, you’ve finally arrived. I was beginning to think you wouldn’t make it!”
As he stepped off the maglev train and approached the entrance of the base, Wang Che heard a voice call out to him.
The base itself was immense, and an expansive plaza lay just outside its entrance. Soul pets of every description were visible in every direction he looked.
There were Hundred Flower Beasts, adorned with a profusion of flowers and plants, shaped like spinning tops, and Rock Golems, the size of kangaroos, their muscles firm and imposing.
Soaring above Wang Che were Steel Wing Eagles, their wings outstretched rigidly like those of an airplane. Furthermore, he even spotted an exceptionally rare, semi-human elemental soul pet: a Wood Warlord.
...
The sheer multitude of soul pets present would undoubtedly have astonished any young man.
There were even soul pets that Wang Che couldn't recall from his eighteen years of memories.
This was because the Skyheart Soul Beast Base functioned not only as a marketplace for purchasing young soul beast eggs but also as a research institution.
Meanwhile, his curiosity piqued, the green caterpillar nestled in Wang Che’s chest pocket slowly emerged, attempting to peer at its surroundings.
Upon witnessing the vast array of soul beasts roaming about, the caterpillar's eyes began to gleam. It couldn't help but feel completely mesmerized, particularly when it noticed the Steel Wing Eagles gracefully soaring through the sky.
“What’s wrong? Are you stunned into silence too?”
The familiar voice spoke again. Turning around, Wang Che saw a slightly shorter, scruffy-looking youth with a buzzed haircut approaching him.
Xu Haifeng was a classmate and close friend of Wang Che.
“It’s nothing,” Wang Che replied, waving a hand to acknowledge him.
“I admire your composure,” Xu Haifeng remarked, clapping Wang Che on the shoulder. “Truthfully, though, I find it a bit disappointing.”
Xu Haifeng glanced at the green caterpillar resting on Wang Che’s chest. He nearly spoke his mind but managed to restrain himself.
“Let’s head inside and take a look,” Xu Haifeng suggested, attempting to steer the conversation. “It appears we’re quite fortunate. Several soul pet professors are present at the base today. That individual over there has arranged for an appointment with one of them, Professor Yan. You could say our entire class will benefit from this opportunity.”
An individual seeking to purchase soul pet eggs had the option to select their own at the base.
Typically, professional researchers would be available to assist buyers in making their selections.
However, this service came at a considerable expense.
If a professor were personally involved in the selection of soul pet eggs, the fortunate buyer would almost certainly end up with exceptionally valuable soul beasts that were a perfect match for them.
This applied whether it was their first or second soul pet.
Nevertheless, not everyone possessed the means or status to secure a professor's assistance.
It transcended mere financial considerations at that point.
“Professor?” Wang Che’s expression shifted to one of surprise.
“Yes, Young Lady Lin Xi personally invited him to help choose a soul pet for the members of our class.”
“That’s quite impressive,” Wang Che commented, nodding in agreement.
