The world has turned into Hell's Game, why should I stay human? Chapter 1407 - 852: Liu Zheng: Call Me Master
Previously on The world has turned into Hell's Game, why should I stay human?...
"Fifty kilograms of Silver Gemstones are here. Count them carefully; there are no returns or exchanges once sold."
The Dwarf stated, opening the box.
Within the container lay square, semi-transparent silver metal blocks, each corner catching the light and refracting a spectrum of dazzling colors.
"Infinite Heavenly Venerable."
Liu Zheng merely cast a brief glance before securing the entire box within his Qiankun Ring.
A slight discrepancy in weight was inconsequential; the important thing was to depart swiftly now that the goods were in hand, thereby avoiding any potential entanglements.
"Eh? You’re truly not going to count it?"
The Dwarf inquired, a note of surprise in his voice.
"For this sum, it hardly merits my attention. However, if you dare to shortchange me... hehe."
Liu Zheng let loose a frigid chuckle.
"What, you intend to trash our establishment?"
The Dwarf retorted with a cold laugh of his own.
"I shan't destroy your store nor assault your staff. I shall merely splash this container of soup upon you. Infinite Heavenly Venerable."
He produced the infamous "Metropolitan Most Smelly Soup."
"Your establishment could face indefinite closure."
Liu Zheng declared.
"What manner of soup possesses such potency?"
The Dwarf remained unperturbed, displaying a flicker of curiosity instead.
After all, he hadn't engaged in any trickery, and Liu Zheng did not strike him as the sort to make baseless demands.
"Metropolitan Most Smelly Soup, have you encountered such a thing?"
Liu Zheng boasted proudly.
"No. Does it reek? As much as the bean juice favored by your Zhen Dan people?"
The Dwarf queried.
"...Let us simply disregard that statement."
To put on a facade for an uninformed audience, how lamentable life could be.
Having departed the Deep Earth Workshop, Liu Zheng proceeded directly to the Ping’an City Gambling House.
The Ping’an City Gambling House was not situated on First Street but rather on Feiao Street, in proximity to it.
Feiao Street also served as the primary enclave for the Fusang populace, characterized by rampant gang activity and the presence of various power factions; even the First Group did not hold undisputed sway here.
Furthermore, the Ping’an City Gambling House was not under the ownership of the First Group but constituted the territory of the second-largest syndicate, the Gambling Society.
As their appellation suggested, the members of this gang harbored an extreme fondness for gambling, to the extent that nearly every decision was settled through games of chance.
Whispers persisted that their leader, the Gambling Snake, once engaged in a wager with, and emerged victorious against, a Deity.
Naturally, this held no relevance for Liu Zheng at the present moment.
He parked his vehicle in the designated lot adjacent to the gambling house and advanced directly toward the main entrance.
"Apologies, but we do not extend a welcome to delivery personnel here."
Two individuals clad in black suits, adorned with red ties, stepped forward to impede his progress.
"But do you welcome this?"
Liu Zheng casually presented a gold bar to one of them.
"Exchange this for chips; the remainder shall serve as your gratuity."
He stated with composure.
"This... I offer my sincerest apologies. Kindly wait a moment."
The man who accepted the gold bar felt its warmth, offered a bow, and promptly entered the gambling establishment.
Moments later, a woman with long hair emerged, dressed in a similar uniform, her face concealed by a cheerful mask.
"I am the manager of this gambling house. Are you here to partake in gambling, esteemed sir?"
The masked woman inquired.
"If not for gambling, would I be here for sustenance?"
Liu Zheng quipped with a chuckle.
"Indeed, the culinary offerings at our Ping’an City Gambling House are quite renowned."
The masked woman replied in a gentle tone.
"Very well, perhaps I shall sample them at a later juncture. May I proceed inside now?"
He asked.
"I regret to inform you that, owing to prior regrettable occurrences, our establishment strictly prohibits entry to delivery personnel."
The masked woman responded.
"What sort of incidents transpired? Did someone dispatch a beautiful croupier to her demise?"
Liu Zheng continued his morbid jesting.
"No, it involved a deliveryman who incurred significant losses and subsequently refused to honor his debts, resulting in injuries to our staff and considerable damage to property."
The masked woman shook her head.
"Such deplorable conduct. In this era, it seems anyone can claim the title of delivery man? Our professional reputation has been gravely undermined by individuals of such ilk."
He declared with feigned indignation.
"That particular delivery man was associated with your Bloody Restaurant."
The masked woman disclosed.
"Surely it wasn’t Niu Ma, was it?"
A sense of foreboding washed over him.
"No, it was the Legendary delivery man."
The masked woman replied.
"Ah, well, that’s less dramatic than I had imagined."
Liu Zheng adopted an expression of weary resignation.
This fellow, it seemed, had a knack for leaving a trail of trouble wherever he went.
"One unfortunate incident should not tarnish an entire profession. Rest assured, delivery personnel of his caliber are exceedingly rare. I am more than willing to engage in gambling and accept any potential losses."
Liu Zheng argued.
"Words are easily spoken. If you wish to enter the gambling house, you must first engage in a game with me. Should you prevail, entry shall be granted."
The masked woman stated.
"You might as well just accept my money directly."
He rolled his eyes.
"To gamble against you, the master of this gambling house, I stand no chance of winning; I’ll forfeit all my funds right here at the entrance."
"The master of the Gambling House is Lord Gambling Snake. I am merely in charge of operations. Would you like to gamble with him then?"
The woman concealed by a mask gestured towards the young man clutching the gold bar.
"Very well, let each of us draw a playing card, and the highest card wins. It shall be decided in a single round."
Liu Zheng proposed.
"Agreed. If you emerge victorious, the Ping’an City Gambling House shall welcome you. Should you falter, you will need to seek your fortune elsewhere."
The masked woman declared.
"It’s a deal."
He affirmed with a nod.
Bringing her palms together, the masked woman unfurled them to reveal a deck of playing cards that materialized in her grasp.
"I shall perform the shuffling and the initial draw."
Liu Zheng stated with an unyielding tone.
"Be my guest."
The masked woman graciously presented the deck of cards to him.
Liu Zheng peeled open the packaging, gave the cards a perfunctory shuffle, and then passed them to the young man.
After all, the final cut should be made by them. He was not as discourteous as the legendary delivery fellow.
The young man, without employing any elaborate flourishes, made a direct cut through the center of the deck.
Closing his eyes, Liu Zheng drew a card, guided purely by instinct.
Upon opening his eyes, he beheld a card bearing the designation "Xiao Wang" (Joker).
"Hmm."
Liu Zheng expressed considerable contentment with this outcome.
In truth, such occurrences are exceedingly rare. If the opposing participant were to coincidentally draw the Da Wang (Big Joker), then only one conclusion is plausible — they are indeed employing deceit.
