"Name: One-Time Excitement Booster (Disposable)"
"Type: Tool"
"Quality: Excellent"
"Effect One: Upon use, player's speed increases to 300% for 10 seconds. If attacked or booed during effect period, speed further increases, up to a maximum of 500%."
"Effect Two: After the duration ends, the player undergoes a Constitution check; failure results in direct death."
"Remark: Turns out we're all disposable."
"Can be taken out of instance: Yes"
Xia Kai's eyes turned blood-red, with sweat pouring out like a river from every pore, flowing through his bulging veins.
An endless surge of power emerged from within him, making the hard floor beneath him feel like a spring, bouncing him far with each step.
Indeed, with the 300% speed boost, Jing Shang was quickly left far behind by Xia Kai.
"This kid's really something,"
Jing Shang mused to himself.
Clearly, he came seeking employment due to dire circumstances, yet he could readily produce so many quality Extraordinary Items.
Before, he was merely taking a shot in the dark, but now he was almost certain Xia Kai had a connection to that particular individual.
"Aren't you going to make a move? If he gets away, at most, I won't patronize this bathhouse again, but you'll be in deep trouble."
Jing Shang addressed the bird-faced attendant.
"You didn't ask for my assistance earlier."
The bird-faced attendant chuckled strangely, then transformed into a crow with three wings and gave chase to Xia Kai.
Its speed far surpassed Jing Shang's, getting closer to Xia Kai with every powerful flap of its wings.
"Damn it!"
Hearing the commotion behind him, Xia Kai couldn't help but curse.
At his current speed, he could easily outrun the end bosses from previous instances, yet the service staff within this instance exhibited even greater speed, making it truly feel like a dog's day.
"Hell's Game, damn you..."
Feeling a sense of hopelessness, Xia Kai lashed out at Hell's Game with all his might, targeting every conceivable civil registry.
Nevertheless, he did not completely surrender, furiously slapping his own face with both arms and continuously making booing noises.
The 300% speed increase also applied to his attack speed, and as Xia Kai's face swelled grotesquely like a pig's head, his speed rapidly surged to its maximum of 500%.
"Nani?"
Even the bird-faced attendant was taken aback.
While not exceptionally strong at the Hundred Ghosts Bathhouse, its speed was highly renowned, and now it found itself unable to apprehend a mere human – an intolerable situation indeed.
It was about to accelerate when it abruptly sensed something, causing it to halt mid-air.
Jing Shang was about to inquire when he too sensed it, his arms instantly stiffening.
Xia Kai remained unaware, as all his focus was concentrated on maintaining control of his 500% speed.
"Bang!"
As he hurtled forward, preparing to navigate the front sewer curve, he collided with something simultaneously hard, soft, and elastically yielding.
Xia Kai was violently repelled, slamming against the nearby wall.
Fortunately, the other party had not applied significant force; otherwise, he would have been flattened into a meat paste.
Even so, his entire body felt as if it were fractured, seeing stars and unable to move.
"Ah!"
At this moment, the creature he had bumped into exclaimed in shock, its voice thick and somewhat delicate.
"Wife, are you alright?"
Another gruff voice inquired.
"I'm fine, just got bumped on the derrière."
The delicate voice responded.
"Who is this blind fool who dared to smack my wife's posterior; it seems this bathhouse no longer wishes to operate."
Accompanied by arrogant words, Mr. Niu Ma emerged with Mrs. Niu Ma from around the corner.
Already annoyed from Mrs. Niu Ma berating him for taking a wrong turn, he was now incensed that someone would dare to molest his wife; if he didn't turn the entire bathhouse upside down today, people from the city might mistakenly believe they were easily intimidated.
"My apologies for the disturbance, esteemed guests. This individual is not one of our bathhouse employees but a thief who trespassed here. I shall escort him away immediately for xử lý."
Upon hearing Mr. Niu Ma's pronouncement, the bird-faced attendant quickly reverted to its human form, approached, and bowed deferentially.
"You claim he's not an employee, and therefore he isn't? Furthermore, he struck my wife; why should you be the one to escort him away?"
Mr. Niu Ma questioned, casting a sidelong glance.
Admittedly, Mr. Niu Ma had a valid point this time; the bird-faced attendant was momentarily rendered speechless.
"Enough with the idle chatter, summon your superior. I'll be lenient and give you a price; don't think this matter will be concluded for anything less than ten or eighty thousand today."
Mr. Niu Ma demanded, his tone unmistakably extortionate.
"This..."
The bird-faced attendant's face flushed.
What initially seemed like a pleasant discovery had unexpectedly transformed into a troublesome hot potato.
Contacting the boss was out of the question; if this individual happened to be affiliated with that mysterious person, it might be overlooked. However, if they weren't and caused financial losses to the bathhouse, they'd undoubtedly face banishment to the pig farm.
"Huh?"
Just as Mr. Niu Ma was about to press the issue, his broad nostrils twitched. He shifted in front of Xia Kai, inhaling deeply.
"Now then, what's your name?" Mr. Niu Ma inquired.
Xia Kai blinked dazedly at him, his focus wavering, barely able to register the giant head before him. ‘I certainly hope he didn’t concuss himself,’ Mr. Niu Ma mumbled. He then spat a small bottle from his mouth towards Xia Kai, forcing it into the young man's grasp.
"Cough, cough!"
Xia Kai sputtered, his vision slowly clearing and the severe pain in his body diminishing considerably. A system prompt resonated within his mind: ‘Constitution check successful.’
Regaining his composure, he found himself face-to-face with an enormous bull's head.
"Ah!"
"Keep that racket down, or I'll kick you to death," Mr. Niu Ma threatened ferociously.
"Uh..."
Xia Kai's scream died in his throat. He quickly scanned his surroundings, noting the bird-faced attendant nearby wincing in discomfort, while Jing Shang remained at a distance, hesitant to approach. It was evident their fear wasn't directed at him but at the colossal beast situated before them. Xia Kai immediately understood that his sole chance of survival rested with this imposing bull.
"Mr. Niu," he offered with an ingratiating smile.
"Who are you calling a bull?" Mr. Niu Ma snapped back, displeased.
"Ah?"
Xia Kai faltered, finally registering the bull's head perched atop a horse's body. ‘Then... Mr. Horse?’ he ventured cautiously.
"I am Niu Ma, this is my species, and my name is also Niu Ma. You truly are a country bumpkin who hasn't even seen a Niu Ma," Mr. Niu Ma scoffed.
"My apologies, Mr. Niu Ma, we folks from the countryside are rather unworldly," Xia Kai quickly replied.
"Hmm, you possess a certain shamelessness that reminds me of that one fellow. You still haven't answered my question; what is your name?" Mr. Niu Ma pressed.
"My name is Xia Kai," Xia Kai stated.
"Oh, do you happen to know Liu Zheng?" Mr. Niu Ma inquired further.
"Ah?"
Xia Kai was taken aback, recalling the peculiar figure in the Yellow Vest, complete with tentacles and goat hooves, who had posed as a delivery man. He was uncertain whether this Niu Ma harbored animosity or friendship towards that formidable individual, leaving him unsure how to respond. Yet, sometimes, silence itself can be an answer. Mr. Niu Ma, who appeared gruff but was actually quite astute, perceived the truth from Xia Kai's reaction. Without further questioning, he directly contacted Liu Zheng.
"Do you know Xia Kai?" he asked point-blank.
"Yes, what about it?" Liu Zheng responded.
"What's the situation? He bumped into my wife's rear; how should we settle this?" Mr. Niu Ma inquired, apparently seeking to exploit the situation. Extorting one family was still extortion; extorting two families was merely a larger scale of the same. Mr. Niu Ma never missed a legitimate opportunity to profit, and to be candid, he wouldn't pass up illegitimate ones either.
"Where did you encounter him?" Liu Zheng asked.
"At the 'Hundred Ghosts' Bathhouse," Mr. Niu Ma replied. ‘That unlucky kid has been brought to Metropolis as well?’ Liu Zheng thought, feeling a touch of exasperation. He inwardly questioned the system: ‘System, you didn't drag him here just because of me, did you?’ Naturally, the system offered no reply.
"On my account, let him off this time. When you return to the city, I'll personally pay a visit to apologize to sister-in-law," Liu Zheng declared. Despite his exasperation, he felt a sense of responsibility to protect the young man. After all, they were temporary allies for a single day, and Xia Kai's performance had been quite commendable.
