The Tyrant Father's Pampered Daughter Chapter 5
Previously on The Tyrant Father's Pampered Daughter...
Gu Yihan held the fair and plump child in his embrace, pressing his face against her joyfully.
"Nuonuo is so clever! Just as expected of my good daughter!"
He gently caressed Gu Nuo’er’s small face twice. Her delicate complexion, resembling a peeled egg, instantly turned rosy.
With her tiny hands, Gu Nuo’er pushed him away, her childish voice urging, "Father, please continue with the court session quickly. Don't delay important matters!"
She then let out a small sigh, "You really make Nuonuo worry so much!"
Gu Yihan found this amusing and let out a hearty laugh, in which the attending officials joined.
At the opportune moment, Father Chunshou presented a milk cake. Gu Nuo’er took it with both hands and began to eat.
Curled up in Gu Yihan’s arms, she listened to the officials deliver their reports regarding the matters of the court.
Just then, a guard stationed at the entrance hurried into the hall and knelt to announce, "Your Majesty, General Bai has returned to the palace. He has already passed through the Imperial City's southern gate."
Gu Yihan's eyebrows rose in surprise. "I only received a report a few days ago stating that General Bai was returning triumphantly. To think he would arrive so swiftly?"
With that, Gu Yihan, still holding Gu Nuo’er, strode out.
He proclaimed loudly, "My loyal subjects, follow me to welcome back the triumphant General Bai!"
The assembled officials quickly followed in his wake.
.......
Gu Nuo’er, nestled in her father’s arms, was still eating, her lips smudged with milk cake crumbs.
Her small ears subtly twitched as she overheard the hushed conversation between two officials behind Gu Yihan…
"The Emperor is personally leading the little Princess to welcome General Bai. It is truly a great honor."
"Naturally. General Bai is renowned for his bravery on the battlefield. Leading a mere three thousand elite soldiers this time, he managed to vanquish the Yaoxia Kingdom. His Majesty certainly holds him in high regard."
"General Bai is truly exceptional. I heard the Yaoxia Kingdom possesses a secret technique enabling them to command fierce beasts, employing wolves as part of their ranks alongside humans!"
"Even when surrounded by a pack of beasts, General Bai was still able to capture the enemy. He is undeniably a hero worthy of the title."
"Indeed. General Bai Yi is remarkably powerful and has been close friends with the Emperor since their youth. What magnificent reward will His Majesty bestow upon him this time?"
Gu Nuo’er listened intently to their murmurs.
She could no longer finish the remaining half of her milk cake.
She carefully held it in her small hands before placing it into the little pouch attached to her waist.
Her favorite candy was also kept within that same pouch.
Gu Yihan, carrying Gu Nuo’er, had just exited the main hall of the palace when he noticed a dense crowd ahead. They were escorting bound captives, advancing with disciplined strides.
Behind them, what appeared to be a massive box, concealed beneath a black cloth, was being dragged along. Its contents remained a mystery.
The man at the forefront had a squarish face and appeared to be in his early thirties. He was tall and powerfully built, possessing a valiant and striking appearance.
His gaze, sweeping across the surroundings, held a soldier’s sharp and cool demeanor!
This was none other than General Bai Yi, the foremost general of the Great Qi Kingdom!
Five months prior, the Yaoxia Kingdom had launched repeated incursions into the Great Qi Kingdom's borders. General Bai had led the troops to repel them.
In a mere span of a few months, with an army of only 3,000 men, he had repeatedly forced the Yaoxia Kingdom to retreat.
He had even succeeded in capturing the enemy's general alive!
On this triumphant return journey, the citizens had thronged the roadsides, extending a warm welcome.
Bai Yi approached Gu Yihan, dropped to one knee, and clasped his hands in greeting. "Your subject pays respects to Your Majesty."
His presence exuded a formidable aura and robust internal energy.
From within Gu Yihan’s arms, Gu Nuo’er chirped in her sweet, child-like voice, her face round and full, "Uncle Bai Yi! You've worked hard!"
Bai Yi's gaze fell upon the child he had not seen for nearly half a year.
A rare smile graced his weather-beaten yet resolute face.
He Cupped his hands again. "Greetings, Your Highness."
Gu Yihan, supporting Gu Nuo’er with one arm, slightly raised his free hand. "General Bai, there is no need for such formality. You must be weary from your journey."
"I have already ordered a welcoming banquet to be prepared for you in the Zichen Hall. You should return to your residence to rest first. You may attend the banquet this evening."
