The Royal Military Academy's Impostor Owns a Dungeon [BL] Chapter 1320: Beyond That Particular Night

Having two people who were normally far too busy to call suddenly contact the estate within moments of each other was more than enough to put the staff on high alert.
But to everyone’s sheer surprise, once their Mistress’s words became clear, they realized she was asking them to investigate the exact same people.
The chances of such a coincidence would’ve normally been rather low for this particular family, but even after checking for the third time, there was no mistaking the faces she had forwarded.
At that point, the butler had no choice but to speak.
"My Lady, regarding this matter... I believe I should inform you that we were already preparing to undertake the task."
"What?!" Marquise Evelyn immediately exclaimed. "You’ve seen it too?! Did you hear those crazed words?! I tell you!"
"..."
The staff exchanged thoroughly confused looks.
Seen what?
Heard what?!
They’d spent the day attending to their usual responsibilities and making sure the nursery being prepared for House Nox’s first grandchild was as immaculate as humanly possible!
Certainly, there were always several things happening throughout the Empire, but none of them could figure out what recent event posed such a dire threat to House Nox that both its eldest heir and the Marquise had personally called within minutes of each other.
"No, My Lady," the butler finally clarified. "We were simply about to act on orders."
"Orders?" Evelyn’s voice sharpened immediately. "From whom?"
They couldn’t see her expression through the audio-only connection, but everyone in the room could practically imagine the Marquise’s eyebrow rising with sudden, intense curiosity.
"Lord Killian, My Lady. He called only moments ago and instructed us to investigate these individuals and determine what sanctions could be levied against them as soon as possible."
"Killian?!"
The outrage in Evelyn’s voice vanished.
"You’re telling me called before did?!"
"..."
Somehow, she suddenly sounded considerably more intrigued.
The butler, perceptive by nature, couldn’t help becoming slightly wary.
"...Yes, My Lady."
"Well, spit it out! What exactly did that kid say?!"
"..."
At times like this, it could be rather difficult to reconcile the Empire’s image of the graceful Marquise Evelyn Nox with the woman currently demanding gossip from her household staff.
Then again, nobody in the room could exactly judge her.
"We asked about the gravity of the offense so we could properly gauge our response," the butler recounted carefully. "Lord Killian then said, and I quote..."
He paused.
"’Daring to covet the future of House Nox.’"
"..."
Silence.
Absolute silence descended over the connection.
Then—
"DARLING!"
Everyone flinched.
"Quick! We have an honest-to-goodness emergency!"
The shout clearly wasn’t directed at them anymore, but toward the Patriarch of House Nox, Minister Kordell.
"I think Killian’s either dying or madly in love!"
"...!"
The staff remained perfectly still.
Several people slowly turned toward one another.
Then came muffled voices from the other end of the line as their masters began talking among themselves.
Or perhaps among themselves would’ve been more accurate.
Every so often, there was even laughter.
A frankly concerning amount of laughter.
Eventually, Marquise Evelyn seemed to remember that an entire group of household staff was still patiently waiting on the line.
"Well!" she finally said, still sounding far too delighted. "Everyone, make sure you follow the directive you’ve been given. Understand that your master’s sincerity is currently on the line, so do exactly as he says."
"Yes, My Lady."
"Oh, and don’t forget to relay any succeeding orders the moment you receive them," Evelyn added, amusement practically spilling from her voice. "We’ll be waiting patiently for updates!"
"...Yes, My Lady."
The call ended.
Once again, the dumbfounded staff of House Nox could only stare at one another, even at the risk of melting each other under the sheer intensity of their concerned gazes.
Then, almost as one, they straightened and returned to work.
Because really...
With a situation this ridiculous unfolding right before them, how could any of them be wildly curious about exactly what kind of sin and sheer stupidity those young people had committed to deserve this level of mobilization?!
__
Meanwhile, far away from the people currently digging through all sorts of connections and alliances dating back to the very establishment of the Empire, most of the cadet battalions had already settled in for the night as Silver Rain once again blanketed the desert.
Some chose to take their chances aboard their respective battleships, praying their remaining energy supplies would last long enough to carry them through the rest of the exercise. Others had managed to find reasonably comfortable hiding places among the rocky terrain, while several simply borrowed the underground tunnels previously occupied by the defeated and thoroughly displaced Caldris Hostiles.
Whatever their circumstances, most had eventually reached the same conclusion.
They needed proper rest if they wanted any hope of continuing their conquest the following day.
If only they knew just how much worse the situation really was.
Fortunately, or perhaps unfortunately, aside from the poor senior battalion that seemed to have attracted some kind of personal doombringer, the other groups still hadn’t realized that three out of the five successful extractions had actually been completed by the
Technically, even those seniors had only witnessed two of them firsthand.
Those objectives had, after all, been stolen practically right from under their noses!
But considering the terrifying familiarity with which the rampaging battalion had handled the extraction procedures, it wasn’t particularly difficult to figure out that this wasn’t their first time doing it.
If everyone else had known the real statistics, considerably fewer cadets would’ve been sleeping peacefully that night.
Because five successful extractions meant there were only fifteen main objectives left to be shared among everyone else.
And judging by the behavior of the battalions that had already succeeded, what were the chances they’d politely stop and give everyone else a turn?
Probably close to nonexistent.
Those poor seniors, in particular, had already come within a hair’s breadth of being forcibly eliminated, only to somehow remain in the exercise. At this point, it almost felt as though they were being deliberately kept alive just so someone could continue tormenting them!
It certainly didn’t help when the rest of their battalion gradually realized that whatever vendetta they’d accidentally attracted no longer seemed limited to the original offenders.
Apparently, their entire battalion had been dragged into it, because every objective they’d nearly exhausted themselves and their resources to secure kept getting stolen just before they could successfully extract it!
This definitely wasn’t the situation they’d imagined finding themselves in when they first learned of the joint activity.
If anything, they’d expected to be the ones withholding all those precious points from the first-year cadets of the Royal Military Academy! Heck, at the very least, they’d thought they would get a few meaningful fights against the famous members of DG.
But what the hell was this one-sided pummeling?!
Still, despite the internal cries of those feeling insanely wronged, the cadets weren’t the only ones lying awake and fretting over their futures on that hostile desert planet.
Because somewhere much deeper beneath the surface than most of them had ever ventured, there were people who couldn’t even imagine a future beyond that particular night.
