Luca, who had been affected by the twins' bloodline ability, is examined by the Elders while Xavier takes the opportunity to carry him. Xavier cherishes the quiet moment, while Luca, unaware of Xavier's romantic thoughts, suspects he's being led to his doom.

Had it been any other day, Xavier—his absurdly efficient husband—would’ve already reached their destination by now.

Instead, Luca found themselves moving at a pace so slow that even D-29 had time to worry.

"Host, do you think there’s insurance for this?" D-29 asked worriedly, much to the utter despair of one exasperated guardian mecha who’d repeatedly told the unruly system to stop inventing ridiculous hypotheses and feeding them to their already frazzled master.

But as if it had long practiced in front of a non-existent mirror, the system readily fired back with, "You say that as if you didn’t witness what arguments between spouses can look like! Have you already forgotten all those master mechanics?"

It was merely a conversation between those who shared the same sea of consciousness, but to the very person it concerned, it served as more than enough of a reminder.

...Right.

Luca had, in fact, witnessed quite a few spectacular marital disputes today. Maybe today was going to be the day they experienced their first major crisis. After all, he’d seen just how intensely his husband had reacted earlier.

Unable to endure the increasingly horrifying scenarios his own imagination insisted on producing, the little chipmunk finally flapped his arms a little before blurting out, "I’m sorry! I swear I only took a peek! A very, very quick peek! I didn’t even mean to look! I swear it just happened!"

"...What?"

Xavier came to such an abrupt stop that Luca instinctively pushed himself away from the Prince’s chest, trying to look up at him despite his covered eyes.

"Their deepest desires! A-and their regrets too!" Luca hurriedly confessed. "I promise I won’t tell anyone! And if you want to smack my butt as punishment, I-I think I can survive getting spanked twice. No, maybe even three times!"

He even raised one hand as though making a solemn oath, offering concessions before Xavier had even asked for an explanation.

The Imperial Prince could only stare at him.

Why in the heavens would he smack Luca’s butt?

More importantly, where in Solaris had his beloved learned something like that?

Then, setting aside the thoroughly bizarre conclusion Luca had somehow drawn after watching several master mechanics get thoroughly dealt with by their wives, something else finally clicked.

Xavier took a long, measured breath before speaking.

"Luca, we’re going straight to the Elders, and you’re going to repeat everything you just told me."

His expression remained perfectly serious.

"Minus the part about getting spanked, because nobody’s getting spanked unless you’re actually into that."

Then, as if unable to help himself, that other nagging question immediately followed.

"And where did you even learn that?"

Only then did Xavier remember the walk he’d deliberately slowed down just so the two of them could spend a little more time together.

"As for our walk," he said with complete certainty, "we’re rescheduling it."

"Huh?"

Luca blinked beneath the sleeping mask.

He’d been so busy panicking over accidentally revealing the secret he’d been keeping since earlier that he had no idea what Xavier meant by their walk.

Rescheduling?

He was even more confused by the part about people actually being into spanking, but still answered what he figured he could at the moment.

"Uh..." Luca hesitated. "The experienced ladies and even a few gentlemen said misbehaving spouses need a little spanking to straighten them out...

"They even recommended a few paddles after I kind of explained what actually happened with their partners. In exchange, they said it was a tip for a long and happy marriage..."

Realization finally dawned on Xavier as he licked his lips in mild distress.

Those people. Seriously.

"You know what..." he said with remarkable restraint. "Let’s take that particular piece of information, crumple it into a little ball, and throw it into the wind. At least for the time being. We can always go looking for it again in... twenty years or so."

Then he looked down at the little Guide comfortably resting in his arms.

"If we ever decide your little butt deserves anything at all," he continued, "we can discuss that much later, after we’ve figured out exactly what happened to you."

"Oh."

Luca nodded obediently.

"Okay."

To Xavier’s absolute horror, his beloved somehow sounded just the tiniest bit disappointed.

And upon noticing that, he most definitely felt something inside himself tighten in inexplicable anticipation.

The wolfish Prince silently clenched his jaw.

Maybe he was the one who deserved a spanking.

Well, it was a good thing they decided to speak with the Elders.

Because, as it turned out, this was an effect that even the Luxastra twins themselves likely wouldn’t have known existed.

Gathered around the young cadet, the Elders listened attentively as they asked Luca to recount everything he’d experienced from the very beginning, starting from the exact moment eye contact had been established.

Luca, who’d been handed yet another drink to occupy himself during the awkward conversation, paused his steady sipping to speak.

"Honestly, I didn’t think anything was happening at first," he explained carefully as he remembered having to ask D-29 if it could detect any sort of change in him.

"We were just looking into each other’s eyes, and I wasn’t really sure what I was waiting for. Then it happened out of nowhere. I suddenly started seeing glimpses of someone sitting on a throne, surrounded by a whole bunch of men."

He paused.

Remembering the promise he’d made to keep other people’s private matters to himself, Luca quietly omitted several details.

Namely, the part where he’d watched men fan Lyrian while feeding him grapes.

And especially the part where another man had somehow ended up serving as a literal footrest.

Instead, he focused on what he believed was actually important.

"That was when I realized I wasn’t looking at a memory," Luca continued. "It felt more like a dream... or maybe a desire. And the reason I figured that out was because I eventually recognized the throne room."

It wasn’t because of what the people inside were doing. As far as Luca was concerned, to each their own.

No, it was the backdrop that gave it away.

"It wasn’t unfamiliar at all."

"In fact," he finished, "that was my in-laws’ throne room. And if I’m right, I don’t think anyone would’ve been allowed to do... that in there. Much less let the twins sit on those designated chairs."

He even verified that with Sid for good measure.

Those words immediately caught everyone off guard.

The Elders exchanged surprised glances, while Xavier instinctively frowned.

Elder Wei leaned forward, his brows knitting together as he asked carefully,

"And you’re saying that you don’t believe the twins could actually see what you were seeing?"

"Hmm... Yes, I don’t think they could," Luca answered, sounding hesitant. "Because the other thing I accidentally saw was related to their ability. I-it was them getting scolded by their own siblings because the way their ability manifested was apparently considered a nuisance to the rest of their family..."

He tilted his head thoughtfully. He really didn’t like that part. But if the twins had been able to see what he had, they wouldn’t have reacted as though the ground had been ripped out from beneath them. With an ability that powerful, they should’ve been confident enough to stand their ground.
