The twins Lyrian and Cyrion, disguised as admirers, discuss their fruitless efforts to gather information about Mylor's mecha from manipulated mechanics. They worry about the unruly mechanic revealing their scheme but are reassured by Lyrian's plan to use the situation to their advantage, potentially drawing the attention of the Empire's Mecha Manufacturing Association. Meanwhile, a baby Queen Bee, Izzie, performs an exaggerated dance to convey intelligence gathered during a covert operation to her assembled audience.

"Noooo!" Princess Kira gasped. "They did not?!"

Having traded places with Kyle so he could return to the stands and make sure his little star still had someone cheering him on while everyone else dealt with the compromised master mechanics, the Orchish Princess had somehow become Izzie’s most enthusiastic audience member.

Anyone who didn’t know better would’ve thought she was listening to the scandal of the century.

Noah watched the exchange for a moment before finally asking, "...You actually understand all that?"

Princess Kira immediately straightened with the confidence of someone who’d just been deeply insulted.

"Of course I understand!" she declared. "How could it not be obvious that those nincompoops are plotting a crime so atrocious that my Bunbun would never be allowed outside without sunglasses again? Just look at her! She’s warning us with everything she has!"

She gestured dramatically toward the tiny queen, who puffed herself up before launching into another series of emotional wiggles.

Noah quietly looked around at everyone else, hoping to confirm that he wasn’t the only person completely incapable of deciphering what appeared to be some sort of impassioned interpretive dance.

Unfortunately, that hope didn’t last very long.

His gaze shifted toward the currently unsupervised Luca, whose husband had become temporarily occupied with his terminal while informing Marshal Julian about the latest developments involving the compromised masters.

Noah caught just enough of the conversation Luca was having with Jax to immediately conclude that it was one discussion he wanted absolutely no part of.

Not because it was particularly difficult to understand, but because the two of them were discussing topics that were admittedly rather shameless with completely straight faces.

Like how they couldn’t possibly imagine professing their undying love to anyone other than the ones they already hold dear.

Luca, wearing an expression so solemn one would’ve thought he was taking an oath before the heavens themselves, looked Jax right in the eye.

"If I ever start showing romantic affection toward anyone other than my husband," he declared with complete sincerity, "strike me down immediately."

He wasn’t joking.

Not even a little.

The short but stern chipmunk looked genuinely determined to leave behind advance instructions just in case that terrifying skill somehow managed to possess him one day.

Noah wasn’t quite sure about what he’d do with such a statement or if any of them would even be able to realistically strike down one Luca Kyros.

But even so, he wanted to see what Jax would say to this.

Unfortunately, the redhead didn’t find any part of it strange either.

Instead, he nodded with complete seriousness before raising a finger toward himself.

"I hear you," Jax said. "And I promise to do exactly that if you promise to do the same for me."

The golden-eyed cadet immediately nodded as he listened to his friend’s equally shameless words.

"As a man with a family," Jax continued, sounding as though he were making an equally sacred vow, "I can’t possibly forsake them for people who aren’t even my type. So if I suddenly start saying otherwise..." He casually pointed toward Killian, who was busy speaking with Master Quinn about the details they might’ve missed. "Just know that I already like that guy a whole lot and, unfortunately, can’t pursue my own competitors no matter how much I respect them as my natural elders."

Noah quietly stared at the two of them, never imagining he’d actually have to dig up those very words in the uncanniest of circumstances.

After all, who could’ve possibly predicted that only a few hours later, they’d all find themselves in one hell of a situation?

__

So much for having an uneventful second day of what had originally been scheduled as nothing more than a mecha manufacturing licensure examination.

And so much for merely being wary of their enemies’ eyes.

Because how had they gone from successfully cornering the impatient culprits, who’d promptly found themselves surrounded by the thoroughly enraged wives of several master mechanics, to watching what was supposed to be a controlled confrontation spiral into complete pandemonium?

Okay, okay.

That was definitely a mouthful, but D-29, the die-hard fan of everything dramatic, would say it all started with the unexpected complications of dealing with married master mechanics.

Uh-huh.

Apparently, it was one thing to "charm" people who simply hadn’t known any better through less-than-honest means. But it was quite another to expect their partners, especially those who’d survived years alongside partially certified lunatics, to quietly take something like that sitting down.

So when the first message arrived requesting a separation because its sender had supposedly found the true object of his life’s dreams...

Those headstrong women, who couldn’t have cared less about what their husbands’ already clouded eyes claimed to see, stormed into the arena demanding proper explanations, armed with enough righteous fury that no one in their right mind would’ve dared stand in their way.

Safe to say, those already in the middle of planning how to catch the twins hadn’t exactly anticipated this development and were forced to hastily adjust their plans as the situation descended into a fiasco far faster than they could contain it.

Then everything somehow became even worse.

Their carefully planned three-pronged operation, meant to ensure the twins had nowhere left to go, had to be scrapped entirely.

Of all the things that could’ve gone wrong and out of every entrance those women could’ve stormed through, they somehow chose the one guarded by Luca, Jax, and Marshal Julian, inadvertently dragging the three men, all of whom had always been rather partial to women, straight into a mess that hadn’t even taken minutes to unfold.

And yet by the time Xavier—who’d developed an extremely bad feeling after hearing the increasingly alarming commotion coming from the waiting lounge—tore down one of the room’s walls without the slightest regard for conventional entrances, what greeted him was a sight that very nearly made everyone’s blood run cold.

The very people who’d only moments earlier been solemnly swearing mutual vows to knock each other unconscious if they ever showed the slightest sign of being charmed had somehow ended up locked in an intense staring contest with the very culprits behind the entire fiasco!
