Princess Nina, Princess Marin, and the Queen Bee revealed they had used bees as security because they detected a potential attack. Their actions escalated into a preemptive strike when they believed the Aerun twins were targeting the Imperial family, specifically concerning their bloodline ability. Meanwhile, the Aerun twins, Lyrian and Cyrion, were furious and humiliated by their public downfall and their father's anger, contemplating drastic measures due to their perceived disadvantage.

Day two began peacefully and with the same, if not an even greater, level of excitement than the first as more and more people looked forward to whatever surprises today’s examination had in store.

Now, that would’ve been a perfectly accurate description of the second day of the licensure exam if it had actually been factual.

Unfortunately, only the part about the excitement was true.

For instead of a peaceful start, the day actually opened with several arrests.

Yes.

Literal arrests involving people who’d attempted to sneak into the testing grounds and examine Ollie’s partially completed mecha after it’d been left there overnight in accordance with the examination rules.

Luca watched the unfolding scene with unconcealed fascination as several students were being sternly reprimanded by their teachers and parents, while a handful of others were calmly escorted away by military personnel for questioning.

"Wow," he said, blinking in amazement. "You were right. I didn’t think people would actually come looking!"

"That normally happens every year," Xavier replied, casually sweeping his gaze across the arena for anything his people might’ve overlooked, all while keeping his wife securely in his arms. "You just didn’t see it during your own examination."

"Oh!"

Luca paused.

"That’s true... I don’t recall having such a problem back then."

He was about to ask why that had been the case when the strong arms holding him protectively answered before he could voice the question.

"You do realize you didn’t leave an unfinished mecha behind, right?" Xavier pointed out with quiet amusement.

The little chipmunk blinked in wonder.

"Each build was completed the same day they were started. Then one immediately went to the Marshal, while the other stayed with you. With that kind of distribution, who would dare come to snoop?"

Well, putting it like that, it actually made a lot of sense.

So instead of asking other things he simply asked, "But is it always this bad? And how did they even make it this far into the arena?"

"Wouldn’t it be a waste not to make use of such convenient bait?" Xavier answered matter-of-factly. "We may not catch the biggest fish that way, but we can at least weed out some of the smaller ones."

Standing nearby, and still well within the confines of their spiritual barrier, Kyle silently resisted the urge to clarify that the Imperial Crown Prince’s definition of "smaller fish" was probably very different from Luca’s.

Their guild leader was most likely imagining overly curious cadets hoping to snap a few pictures or gather inspiration for their own careers.

Xavier, on the other hand, had been referring to the various research institutes, industrial spies, and black-market organizations they’d quietly caught trying to steal manufacturing information they could later profit from.

In the end, Kyle decided against explaining any of that.

There wasn’t much point in making Luca any more anxious than he already was, especially since today’s plan already involved bringing the little Queen Bee along for a totally different experiment.

Right. There was that important bit that actually sounded like a very simple matter.

In reality, however, the feat had involved a great deal of tears and enough guilt that the adults practically had to divide it among themselves just to endure it, because they could only bring the little Queen Bee instead of all three children.

The moment Princess Nina and Princess Marin realized they were being left behind, the two little girls immediately threw themselves into Luca’s arms. Their big, rounded eyes trembled with unshed tears while their tiny chins quivered so pitifully that even the hardest-hearted person would’ve hesitated.

"Please, Brother Chipmunk!" they pleaded in unison. "We’ll be really, really good! It’ll be perfectly okay if all of us come!"

They sniffled dramatically as they spoke.

Meanwhile, the baby Queen Bee, who was clinging tightly to Princess Nina’s sleeve, puffed out her tiny cheeks and did her absolute best to imitate the same heartbreaking expression.

It was devastating.

Luca, who’d always been hopelessly weak against those rounded, watery eyes, immediately turned toward his husband with an equally pitiful look of his own.

Xavier definitely wavered, but as a principled man, actually managed to do what was right.

The Imperial Crown Prince physically turned his entire body away before planting one hand firmly against the nearest wall, as though the simple act of looking at his wife for another second would’ve resulted in him approving something that everyone present knew was an absolutely terrible idea.

Instead, all Xavier could do was strike deals that would’ve impressed even the devil in order to temporarily appease the children and their exceedingly unfair allies.

As one could imagine, the morning before the examination had been nothing short of catastrophic. Kyle Nox could only be thankful that his own little star had been far too busy being half catatonic to join the fray.

It got so bad that several parents and grandparents alike spent the better part of the morning desperately reinforcing their resolve, lest they cave under the overwhelming temptation to simply bring all three little girls along.

Duke Leander, despite not even having a little princess of his own, had to be escorted to a different room because the moment his precious son Luca sided with the children, that automatically meant that said father had done so as well.

As for why they were bringing the little Queen Bee in the first place despite Killian’s intense protests...

There was actually a very good reason.

They still needed to get to the bottom of whatever it was that had worried both Jax and his daughter so much about the Aerun twins.

For that reason, today’s plan involved three generations of Taylors quietly keeping watch over the twins in the hopes of uncovering more clues regarding their mysterious bloodline ability. Everyone else, meanwhile, had been specifically instructed to avoid making direct eye contact with the pair should they happen to cross paths.

This warning was especially relayed to the other Mylor siblings who logically seemed like the next best targets considering how they’d actually gone after Owen just the day before.

But what do you know?

Their group had completely failed to anticipate one rather significant change in today’s events.

One so dramatic that Master Quinn ended up loudly demanding reinforcements and possibly a well-trained exorcist.

Because just what the hell had happened to all these supposedly dignified master mechanics?!
