The Return of the God Level Assassin Chapter 1327: HURTS MORE
Previously on The Return of the God Level Assassin...
Luo Yan was taken aback by the sudden ultimatum. He sensed his father was overcome with emotion at the moment, likely not thinking clearly. His father had always been exceedingly protective of him, not necessarily showing more love than to his other sons, but simply being more cautious with Luo Yan. This caution, Luo Yan understood, stemmed from the seven years he spent in a coma. Therefore, his father's intense reaction to discovering his relationship, especially with another man, was understandable.
No matter how favorably he had viewed Shen Ji Yun previously, Luo Yan's father now perceived him as someone taking advantage of his son. In truth, anyone in Shen Ji Yun's position at that exact moment would likely have been viewed in the same light.
"Dad—!"
Shen Ji Yun reached out, gently grasping Luo Yan's elbow to halt him. Luo Yan turned to face him. Shen Ji Yun offered a subtle shake of his head, a silent gesture indicating he would manage the situation. Luo Yan pursed his lips and remained silent.
"Uncle Wei Tian, I'm uncertain about the explanation you seek from me," Shen Ji Yun commenced, meeting the older man's gaze unflinchingly. "However, I can state this much: I hadn't planned any of this. I've never been adept with emotions. It took me a considerable length of time, far longer than it should have, to even grasp my feelings for Yan Yan."
He paused, his voice softening. "Once I finally understood, I was simply content to be in his presence. That was sufficient for me. Merely being near him, witnessing his smile, hearing his laughter—I desired nothing more."
He swallowed audibly before proceeding. "Yet, I became greedy. I desired more. Consequently, I confessed my feelings. I didn't anticipate reciprocity. My sole wish was for him to know. That was all. And when he confessed his love for me as well, I found it difficult to believe. It felt akin to a miracle, like a gift freely bestowed upon me, undeserved as it seemed."
He glanced at Luo Yan briefly before turning his attention back to his father. "Therefore, should you insist on our separation, I will not comply. I will fight for this relationship, for him. I sincerely hope you can perceive the gravity of my intentions and the depth of my love for your son. It encompasses my entire being, surpassing all else."
He lowered his head respectfully. "I humbly request Uncle Wei Tian's blessing."
Luo Wei Tian fixed his gaze upon the top of Shen Ji Yun's head, his stare so intense it seemed capable of piercing through it. Despite the sincerity pouring from Shen Ji Yun's words, Luo Wei Tian's anger currently overshadowed everything. He was aware, on a deeper level, that his reaction was perhaps unreasonable, that his emotions were taking control. But could anyone fault him under these circumstances?
His son, the child he had nearly lost, had been in a relationship for a full year without his knowledge. With another man, no less. And the discovery occurred as he stumbled upon them on the verge of a kiss outside his brother-in-law's residence. Any father would be enraged. Any father would feel a sense of betrayal. He wasn't wrong to feel this way; at least, that's what he repeatedly told himself.
However, Luo Wei Tian also recognized that he was not in the right state of mind to absorb anything Shen Ji Yun might say. Regardless of the young man's words, they would inevitably sound like excuses. He would dissect them, searching for flaws. As the senior figure present, he ought to be the voice of reason. Yet, as the situation unfolded, reason had fled his mind entirely.
He inhaled deeply, directing his gaze towards the ceiling, endeavoring to regain control over his anger. After a significant pause, he reached a decision.
"Go home," he finally stated. "We cannot have a productive discussion while I am in this emotional state. It would serve no purpose. So, please leave."
"Uncle--"
"Go. Home."
Shen Ji Yun regarded Uncle Wei Tian intently. The older man's expression was rigid, his jaw clenched, and his eyes betrayed a barely suppressed fury. He appeared to be restraining himself from uttering or performing an action he might later regret. Shen Ji Yun understood; there was no benefit in pressing the matter further tonight, not under these conditions.
He offered a slow nod. "I understand."
Turning to Luo Yan, he saw worry etched clearly on his boyfriend's face. Shen Ji Yun offered a small smile, mouthing, 'I'll call you later.' Luo Yan responded with a nod, returning a smile that appeared fragile, as if he were making a concerted effort to seem reassuring, to convey to Shen Ji Yun that everything would eventually be alright.
He hoped that was indeed the case. With one final smile, Shen Ji Yun turned and exited the study.
Luo Yan watched Shen Ji Yun depart. Once the door closed with a click, he turned back to face his father. The elder man still exhibited signs of barely contained anger. Luo Yan walked over and encircled his father in an embrace.
"I'm sorry, Dad. We shouldn't have concealed this from you. I apologize for not gathering the courage to tell you sooner. I regret that you had to discover it under these circumstances." Luo Yan held his father tighter. "But please, do believe me, we had no intention of being disrespectful. It's just... it's frightening. Telling your parents a truth like this, uncertain of their reaction. Unsure if their perception of you would remain unchanged. I repeatedly postponed it, waiting for an opportune moment. However, time simply slipped away. I am truly sorry."
Luo Wei Tian gazed at his son, suppressing the desire to embrace him. He let out a breath, then carefully eased himself away. "Do you truly believe I wouldn't accept you just because your partner is male? That aspect holds no significance for me. It's not the reason for my displeasure at all. My anger stems from the fact that you withheld this from me for an entire year. I placed my trust in Ji Yun. I believed he would watch over you as a friend, and now I learn that you two are in a relationship? It is the deception, the secrecy, that inflicts a wound deeper than you can possibly comprehend."
