Luo Yan’s 19th birthday begins with him getting ready for his date with Shen Ji Yun. He deceives his family about a group project deadline to keep his plans secret. While schoolmates congratulate him throughout the day, he realizes it's due to Arcadia’s official social media post acknowledging his birthday as Noctis. He meets Shen Ji Yun, who surprises him with a birthday kiss and a special date.

A thrill coursed through Luo Yan's chest. Shen Ji Yun had mentioned dinner first, implying further plans afterward. His mind conjured up an entire evening orchestrated just for them, a thought that brought a smile to Luo Yan's lips. He gazed out the car window as they departed the university grounds, already anticipating Shen Ji Yun's surprise.

Uncertain of their destination, Luo Yan's questions were met with Shen Ji Yun's enigmatic smiles as he kept his focus on the road. Twenty minutes into their city drive, they entered the underground parking of a towering commercial building. Luo Yan craned his neck, attempting to discern their location but seeing little from below.

After securing a parking spot, they ascended via elevator. Throughout the ride, Luo Yan's gaze repeatedly shifted to Shen Ji Yun, his curiosity piqued about their destination. Shen Ji Yun simply smiled, his grip on Luo Yan's hand tightening slightly.

The elevator doors opened onto the thirty-ninth floor, revealing a narrow corridor. A directional sign guided them towards the restaurant. Following it, they stepped through an entrance into a space adorned with floor-to-ceiling windows offering a panoramic city view. Luo Yan's pace faltered as he absorbed the scene.

The restaurant exuded an atmosphere of tranquility, bathed in soft light with widely spaced tables. Luo Yan paused near the entrance, surveying the surroundings. The floor, crafted from dark, gleaming wood, contrasted with the muted gray walls. A lengthy bar graced one side, its array of bottles shimmering in the dim illumination. While many tables were occupied, a few prime spots by the windows remained vacant.

A woman, impeccably dressed in a tailored black gown, approached with an upright posture and hands clasped demurely. She offered a polite bow and a welcoming smile.

"Good evening. Do you have a reservation?"

Shen Ji Yun inclined his head. "Yes. Under Shen."

A quick glance at a tablet in her hand confirmed the booking. "Right this way, please."

She expertly navigated them through the dining area, weaving between tables until they reached a secluded spot near the windows. The table, illuminated by a small candle at its center, was perfectly set for two, with ample space separating it from any neighbors.

"Your server will be with you shortly," she announced, offering another small bow before departing, leaving them in privacy.

Shen Ji Yun courteously pulled out the chair for Luo Yan. As Luo Yan settled in, Shen Ji Yun moved to the opposite side of the table and sat down.

"This is a lovely place," Luo Yan remarked, his eyes sweeping across the restaurant. His attention then drifted to the window, and he fell into a thoughtful silence.

From their vantage point by the window, the sprawling cityscape below unfurled like a luminous tapestry. Buildings pierced the night sky, their lights twinkling against the darkness. Clusters of taller skyscrapers stood out, their illuminated windows sharp against the gloom. Roads, like glowing arteries, crisscrossed the terrain, carrying streams of slow-moving vehicle lights. In the distance, the lights diffused and softened, merging with the dusky silhouettes of the hills.

"It's beautiful," Luo Yan breathed, a soft sigh escaping him.

"I'm pleased you like it," Shen Ji Yun replied. "I was uncertain about the venue. We've explored many city eateries already. My aim was somewhere new. Fortunately, my uncle recommended this establishment."

Indeed, since commencing his studies, he and Shen Ji Yun had sampled numerous dining establishments throughout the city.

"Well, let's see if your choice holds up," Luo Yan quipped with a playful grin. "The food will be the ultimate judge."

As if summoned, their server materialized beside the table. A young man, clad in a crisp white shirt and black apron, offered a polite smile.

"Good evening. May I offer you a drink to start?"

Shen Ji Yun perused the wine list. "The 2019 Château Margaux."

The server's nod was appreciative. "An excellent selection. I shall retrieve it presently. Perhaps some appetizers while you peruse the rest of the menu?"

Shen Ji Yun turned to Luo Yan. "What appeals to you?"

Luo Yan gave a slight shake of his head. "You decide. I'm eager to see your choices."

Shen Ji Yun offered a subtle nod and addressed the server. "We'll commence with the oyster platter and the foie gras terrine."

The server meticulously recorded the order. "And for your subsequent courses?"

"The lobster bisque and the truffle pasta."

"Excellent choices. And your main courses?"

"The grilled Wagyu beef with roasted vegetables, accompanied by a red wine reduction. Prepared well-done for both."

The server made a final notation. "Certainly. And for dessert?"

Shen Ji Yun looked towards Luo Yan. "Shall we decide on dessert later?"

Luo Yan concurred. "We'll decide after the main course."

The server inclined his head. "I shall bring the wine forthwith."

He departed, leaving them in solitude. Soon after, he reappeared, holding a wine bottle wrapped in white cloth. The server poured wine into both their glasses to the appropriate measure, then placed the bottle into a cooler beside their table before retreating. "Your starters will be served momentarily," the server announced, departing once more. Luo Yan gazed intently at Shen Ji Yun as he raised his glass. The subdued candlelight cast shadows upon his features, highlighting his sharply defined jawline and the relaxed manner his fingers encircled the glass stem. He bore a striking resemblance to those aloof northern dukes often depicted in the web novels Luo Yan occasionally read – the sort who remained detached from all others but displayed profound tenderness exclusively for the one they cherished. Shen Ji Yun, sensing Luo Yan's scrutiny, inquired, "Do I have something on my face?" Luo Yan offered a smile. "No. I was merely contemplating how handsome my boyfriend is, and how fortunate I am that he belongs solely to me." A blush crept across Shen Ji Yun's face, its hue discernible even in the dim illumination. He lowered his gaze to his glass briefly before meeting Luo Yan's eyes again. "I am the one who is luckier, to be yours."
