The Quest for Immortality Chapter 2890: Divine Altar Deathmatch (part 2)
Previously on The Quest for Immortality...
After Yan Zhu and Qing Zhu ascended the Divine Altar, they did not hesitate in the slightest and charged straight toward the Black Vulture Elder.
Kill the Black Vulture Elder, and they could completely prevent the descent of the Wujiu Great God.
Once the Witch Vulture God Descent failed, the Wujiu Tribe’s ambition would be utterly shattered.
This great war could then finally come to an end.
Thus Yan Zhu and Qing Zhu showed not the least bit of mercy; the moment they struck, it was with killing blows.
Both pushed the Divine Way of the deities they worshipped to the utmost: one’s whole body covered in Fire Patterns, Telekinesis surging like Fiery Fire; the other’s gaze flowing with charm, Telekinesis like fine threads that hooked at the desires of the heart.
One took the main offensive, the other specialized in disruption.
The two joined forces and lunged to kill the Black Vulture Elder.
The Black Vulture Elder’s face was gloomy; he knew that victory or defeat would be decided in this battle.
If he won, he could ignite the altar; the Wujiu Great God would descend, and the great enterprise would be accomplished.
If he lost, then all would turn to ash, and all his painstaking efforts would be for naught.
At this very moment, it was already a situation where he had no choice but to fight to the death.
The Black Vulture Elder threw back his head and let out a sky?shaking howl, the sound strange and shrill like a Wujiu’s wail. At the same time, his features completely changed: his eye sockets grew darker, his nose hooked like an eagle’s beak, his form half?man, half?vulture.
The flesh on his face also rotted dead in patches.
His life force was rapidly draining away; in its place, his Telekinesis was climbing higher and higher.
He was overdrawing his life, bearing Divine Power from the Wujiu Great God beyond his limits, using it for one last desperate struggle.
Seeing this, Yan Zhu and Qing Zhu dared not be careless in the slightest; they pushed their Telekinesis and Witchcraft to the very extreme.
The three Shamans, all in the Late Golden Core Stage and possessing Upper Witch strength, unleashed a fierce life?and?death slaughter upon the ancient Divine Altar.
Yan Zhu’s Telekinesis followed the Candle Fire God’s Divine Way of the Great Wilderness Royal Court, able to burn away another’s Telekinesis, its might overwhelmingly strong.
Qing Zhu’s Telekinesis followed the god of Qingqiu, able to bewitch the human heart and draw in Divine Sense, impossible to guard against.
And the Black Vulture Elder’s Telekinesis, borrowed from the Wujiu Great God, contained a dead?rot power, like a virulent poison; once stained by it, it clung like maggots to the bone, rotting one’s Sea of Consciousness.
The three relied on their cultivation and fleshly bodies to battle at close quarters, but their true killing moves were the various strands of Telekinesis attached to every strike and technique.
This unseen clash on the "Divine Thought" plane was where the true extreme peril lay.
The slightest carelessness, and the Sea of Consciousness would suffer irreparable damage, even spiritual death and Dao extinction.
On top of that, the Divine Altar was at every moment awash in the even more ferocious Vermilion Bird Divine Fire.
The battle of three Upper Witches was like slaughter upon a cliff’s edge; every move, every step was heart?stopping, as if treading thin ice.
The Great Chiefs and Generals below the altar watched with their hearts pounding.
They were unable to set foot upon the Divine Altar, unable to intervene in this slaughter.
And the outcome of this slaughter—the victory or defeat among these Shamans—would almost determine the final direction of this protracted tribal war.
No one’s heart was free of unease, of anxious fear.
The three Shamans unleashed all their means, holding nothing back, wishing they could beat each other’s brains out.
The scene was for a time blood?soaked and brutally savage to the extreme.
But after a bout of killing, the Black Vulture Elder ultimately fell into disadvantage.
Originally his cultivation was the highest, his Taoist Practice the deepest, his Telekinesis the strongest; but he had earlier been grievously wounded by that arrow from Dan Lie, now faced a two?on?one situation, and was further overdrawing his life to borrow Divine Power, so it was very hard for him to hold out for long.
In the high?intensity slaughter, the Black Vulture Elder finally exposed a flaw and had his Sea of Consciousness injured by Yan Zhu’s Candle Fire Telekinesis.
Then his desires were hooked by Qing Zhu’s eyes.
Once desire stirred, reason sufferes a brief loss; for a moment, the Black Vulture Elder could not control his own body, unable to govern himself.
And this "loss of self" was nearly fatal.
Qing Zhu used her Telekinesis to snare the Black Vulture Elder and, seizing this once?in?a?lifetime opportunity, was just about to have Yan Zhu coordinate with her to deliver the "killing blow."
But when she turned her head, she discovered that Yan Zhu had not moved in to kill the elder; instead, taking advantage of Qing Zhu and the Black Vulture Elder being entangled and unable to extricate themselves for the moment, he alone was climbing toward the higher reaches of the altar.
Qing Zhu instantly understood Yan Zhu’s intent; rage flared in her heart, and she cursed:
"You wretched cur!"
Yan Zhu gave a cold laugh and ignored her; instead he focused his Telekinesis, using it both to ward off the Vermilion Bird Divine Fire at the upper reaches of the altar and to step, one stair at a time, toward the Divine Position.
In his eyes, there was only that Vermilion Bird Statue.
And the ancient divine throne beneath the Vermilion Bird Statue.
Qing Zhu hated him to the core; her seductive Telekinesis involuntarily weakened a little.
The Black Vulture Elder regained a bit of his senses, glanced at Qing Zhu, and rasped, "Let go, I’ll stop him."
Qing Zhu naturally did not want to let go, but she was unwilling to be the wedding dress for another. Seeing Yan Zhu climb ever higher, she gritted her teeth and dispelled her own threads of desire?Telekinesis.
With his desire cleansed away, the Black Vulture Elder’s mind instantly returned to Clarity. He then hesitated not at all, manifesting black wings to guard his body and charging to kill Yan Zhu.
Qing Zhu’s gaze chilled; she, too, rushed after Yan Zhu.
But the two had already delayed for quite some time. Taking advantage of this interval, Yan Zhu had climbed higher and higher.
Before the Black Vulture Elder and Qing Zhu could catch up, Yan Zhu had already reached the summit, crossed the long flight of steps, and arrived upon the uppermost Divine Altar.
The Vermilion Bird Statue, lifelike like streaming fire, was right before his eyes.
The golden divine throne radiating ancient godly charm was only a step away.
The Vermilion Bird Statue held a golden ring in its beak; beneath the golden ring stood a golden tree, and at the base of the golden tree sat a golden tray, which was empty.
An ordinary offering tray bore sacrifices.
But the golden tray was different; the golden tray bore "things of the deity."
Presenting the deity’s "token" within the golden tray could ignite the Vermilion Bird Statue and call down the Divine Way.
Among the Shamans, this counted as a kind of "secret lore."
