The Quest for Immortality Chapter 2398: Great Wilderness Bone Scroll
Previously on The Quest for Immortality...
A muddled and dazed Divine Sense lingered, the consciousness obviously awake yet utterly exhausted, the Sea of Consciousness feeling immensely heavy, as if burdened by countless sins and debts.
Furthermore, the sights before him were all hazy.
Everything perceived was half black and half white.
It was as if the world had been stripped of its color, reverting to its most primitive hues; the interplay of black and white induced a feeling of profound silence, yet simultaneously hinted at the Great Dao unifying all.
Mo Hua blinked forcefully once more.
The monochrome vision of the world began to recede slightly, a touch more color bleeding in, though not entirely dispelled. Shadows of black and white still clung to the periphery of his sight.
This peculiar black-and-white vision seemed to meld with his very eyes.
A frown creased Mo Hua’s brow. He blinked again, and upon reopening his eyes, he found Elder Master Xun, his hair as white as snow, gazing at him with growing concern within his stern eyes.
Mo Hua was startled, murmuring, "Elder Master Xun..."
As he made an attempt to rise, a hand, rough yet warm, gently pressed him back down. "Do not move."
Elder Master Xun placed the back of his hand against Mo Hua’s forehead, taking his pulse. He assessed the strength and weakness within Mo Hua’s channels, the blood Qi’s surplus and deficit, and the flow of his Spiritual Power. Finally, he cupped Mo Hua’s chin, scrutinizing his eyes with focused attention.
Observing the black and white within Mo Hua’s irises gradually fading, with no residual Evil Qi, nor any traces of Corpse Qi or Blood Qi, he finally felt a measure of relief.
"Can you see clearly now?"
"I can see clearly," Mo Hua affirmed truthfully, nodding. "However, it's still somewhat blurry, with a faint black-and-white border."
"And your channels’ Spiritual Power?"
Mo Hua circulated his internal energy, replying, "I believe it is acceptable."
"Do you feel fatigued?"
"Yes," Mo Hua nodded. "I feel a heaviness in my shoulder, as though something is pressing down, impeding my breath..."
A soft sigh escaped Elder Master Xun.
The immense weight of such a massacre was felt merely as 'heaviness' – this Life Chart was truly beyond mere description; 'tough' was an insufficient word.
"Do you..." Elder Master Xun paused briefly before directly asking, "...feel the urge to kill?"
"Kill people?"
Mo Hua appeared stunned, a hint of confusion in his voice. "Why would I want to kill people?"
Uncertain how to proceed, Elder Master Xun sighed again. "It is good that you do not."
Elder Master Xun returned his gaze to Mo Hua’s eyes, ensuring that Mo Hua’s expression was clear and genuine, not a deception. This confirmation finally set his worried mind at ease.
Mo Hua, feeling somewhat perplexed, inquired, "Elder Master Xun, what exactly has happened to me?"
Elder Master Xun regarded Mo Hua in silence for a moment before softly asking, "Do you comprehend the gravity of your actions?"
"I..."
Mo Hua hesitated, then resolved it was best to be entirely forthright with Elder Master Xun.
After all, Elder Master Xun had always shown him exceptional kindness. While some matters might be kept confidential when absolutely unavoidable, it was difficult for him to omit even crucial details.
However, the incident involving the Blood Sacrifice Array could certainly be disclosed. Since his intention was to rescue others and he had done nothing wrong, there was no reason to conceal it from such a venerable figure.
Moreover, the magnitude of this affair was such that he could not possibly bear it alone. By confessing to Elder Master Xun, he could secure the Elder Master’s support.
Mo Hua considered for a moment before relaying the entirety of his recent deeds to Elder Master Xun.
He explained how he had dismantled the Evil Path's Grand Formation atop Yanluo Mountain to rescue his fellow disciples and the other prodigies of Qianxue.
Later, in his bid to save Yu Er, he had feigned compliance with Mr. Tu, navigating the treacherous landscape amidst various Demon Heads. Ultimately, he succeeded in rescuing Yu Er, simultaneously destroying the Blood Sacrifice Array and conveniently eliminating all the Demon Heads ensnared within it.
Elder Master Xun let out another sigh, feeling as though he were listening to a seasoned storyteller spin a yarn, replete with astonishing twists and turns.
Yet, after experiencing repeated waves of shock, a sense of numbness began to settle in.
No matter what astounding feats Mo Hua now accomplished, he found himself gradually accepting them.
As for certain finer points, which Mo Hua had undoubtedly omitted, Elder Master Xun had no intention of probing further.
Having a general understanding of the situation was sufficient; often, knowing too much proved disadvantageous.
This was particularly true in matters concerning Mo Hua.
"I understand," Elder Master Xun nodded. "This matter concludes here. Do not breathe a word of it to anyone else. Remember..."
Elder Master Xun fixed Mo Hua with a profound gaze, slowly articulating:
"Regarding Yu Er, you simply happened to retrieve his 'body.' You know nothing of what transpired within the nightmare."
"The self-destruction of the Blood Sacrifice Array bears no connection to you."
"The demise of those Demon Cultivators was a fate they deserved, and it is equally unrelated to you."
"No matter the circumstances, you must maintain that your involvement is 'unrelated.'"
"If not, with so many Golden Cores and Feather Transformation Demon Heads meeting their demise, not only would sects like the Blood Refining Sect, Mystic Demon Sect, Yin Corpse Valley, Demon Sword Sect, and Hehuan Sect label you their sworn enemy, the Demon Gate's 'arch-nemesis', but they would also relentlessly hunt you down."
"Moreover, the various righteous sects and aristocratic families like Qianxue's would undoubtedly covet your treasures and see you as a persistent threat. They would scheme against you relentlessly, attempting to pry into your mind and study your Sea of Consciousness..."
"Your adversaries would then encompass both the righteous and demonic paths, making every single step you take fraught with peril and lethal danger."
"You must engrave these words into your memory!"
Elder Master Xun’s countenance was etched with extreme gravity.
Mo Hua grasped the gravity of the situation, earnestly nodding his head. "Yes, Esteemed Sir, I have committed all of it to memory."
Witnessing Mo Hua’s understanding, Elder Master Xun’s stern demeanor softened, his gaze returning to its usual warmth as he replied gently:
"Very well, let go of these worries for now. Focus on resting and recovering. For the time being, remain within the back mountains and do not venture out anywhere."
"I shall personally attend to all other matters."
Mo Hua expressed his gratitude. "Thank you, Esteemed Sir."
Elder Master Xun gestured dismissively, looking at Mo Hua with kindness, and softly imparted his advice:
"Your injuries are related to karmic entanglement, carrying a heavy emotional toll. Refrain from recklessly mobilizing your Divine Thought, and do not let your mind become overtaxed. Rest as much as you possibly can; sleep more if the opportunity arises."
