The Quest for Immortality Chapter 2392: Retribution for Sin
Previously on The Quest for Immortality...
Beyond Yanluo Mountain, on the road leading toward the Qian Learning State Boundary.
Mo Hua remained stationary, casting a glance behind him.
He observed the triple reverse transformation, a meticulously calculated and painstakingly devised plan of his, shattering segment by segment.
The Desolate Heaven Blood Sacrifice Formation, a colossal array spanning nine entire state boundaries, utterly disintegrated.
A darkness, embodying the power of extinction, swathed the heavens and the earth. Innumerable demon wraiths and demon cultivators were obliterated, reduced to mere specks akin to countless ants, transforming into black dust and vanishing. The souls of the deceased filled the sky and the ground, a slaughter so profound it resembled a boundless sea.
Even Mo Hua himself was struck by the sheer scale of it.
This method of "disintegration," exploiting the critical juncture where spiritual power and malevolent energy converge, stemmed from his innate celestial secret calculation abilities, which masterfully blend foresight with deception. It was further fueled by his profound understanding of the transformations between righteous and demonic forces, and his grasp of spiritual energy interchange.
He harbored a degree of uncertainty regarding its true efficacy post-disintegration.
After all, this was his inaugural attempt at dismantling the Desolate Heaven Blood Sacrifice Formation.
This event also marked his initial "practical application."
The outcome left him in a state of mild disbelief.
Even the myriad complex interactions, where forces of righteousness and evil coalesced, opposed, infiltrated, transformed, and ultimately detached – these phenomena captivated Mo Hua’s gaze, momentarily rendering him spellbound.
A sudden, profound realization concerning the two fundamental laws underpinning the Dao of Heaven and Earth began to dawn within the deepest recesses of Mo Hua’s heart.
Mo Hua’s pupils, sharp and vibrant, reflected an intense yearning for the Great Dao.
And at that precise instant, a terrifying yet familiar aura emanated from the distant horizon.
A bolt of scarlet lightning plummeted from the sky, striking directly into the formation. It obliterated four figures instantaneously, extinguishing four vital lifelines.
Mo Hua’s expression contorted in shock.
Robbery Thunder!
"The robbery thunder... it killed Mr. Tu and the others?!"
"Did my formation’s disintegration force Mr. Tu and his group to their demise?"
"I... I actually forced the deaths of four cultivators at the Feather Transformation realm?"
Mo Hua drew a sharp, cold breath, finding the reality almost unbelievable.
Such a formidable elder, back at Dry Wood Cliff, had, through the insidious method of planting a devil within a Taoist’s heart, only managed to force the deaths of three Feather Transformation cultivators. Now, with a single maneuver, he had accounted for four, surpassing even his elder. This was not a matter to be ashamed of, in fact, it was something to be proud of.
However, Mo Hua’s brows soon knitted together, his countenance growing somber:
"Something feels amiss..."
Based on his calculations, his triple-layered disintegration was intended, at best, to "annihilate the formation and expunge all traces," coupled with the objective of "eliminating witnesses."
The ultimate aim was to erase any evidence of his prior involvement with the Evil Path’s Great Formation and to dismantle the formation itself. It also served to obliterate all demon cultivators who possessed knowledge of his complicity within the formation, ensuring their remains were also reduced to ash.
But these measures were strictly confined to individuals below the "Feather Transformation" stage. He himself was merely at the Foundation Establishment realm; such a vast chasm in cultivation meant he could not directly "murder" individuals truly residing at the Feather Transformation realm.
From the outset, he had not even entertained the notion of trapping Mr. Tu and his companions.
His primary objective was the eradication of the Blood Sacrifice Formation. Once accomplished, any demon cultivators below the Golden Core stage would perish, the crisis threatening the Qianxue State Boundary would be averted, and no innocent cultivators would suffer loss of life. Mo Hua would have considered this a success.
Yet, the current outcome, where Mr. Tu and the others perished during the disintegration of the Blood Sacrifice Formation, was indeed rather unexpected.
Mo Hua found himself perplexed.
While the disintegrating force was potent, its inherent power level, in his estimation, should have been insufficient to claim the lives of Feather Transformation cultivators.
Could it be that they turned on each other, pushed to their limits and employing cultivation techniques exceeding the Third Grade, thereby triggering their annihilation by the Heavenly Dao?
Or perhaps, overwhelmed and exhausted by the disintegration force, they subconsciously attempted to escape the Blood Sacrifice Formation by utilizing their Feather Transformation flight abilities, inadvertently activating the Heavenly Dao Laws’ restrictions and consequently being wiped out by the robbery thunder?
Mo Hua felt that both scenarios held a degree of plausibility, yet simultaneously, both seemed somewhat far-fetched and did not quite align logically.
Then...
Mo Hua’s pupils narrowed slightly.
"Could there have been another individual, operating from the shadows, who compelled Mr. Tu and his group towards self-destruction?"
"Or perhaps someone... manipulated them?"
This disturbing thought, once it surfaced, sent an immediate chill through Mo Hua’s heart.
An unsettling premonition cast a long shadow over his spirit.
Mo Hua furrowed his brow, his gaze clouded with uncertainty. After a brief pause, he inwardly sighed:
"Best to depart... what needed to be done is accomplished. This is hardly a place to linger, and furthermore..."
With an upward glance, Mo Hua surveyed the Blood Sacrifice Formation. The demon cultivators who had been there stood in terrified silence, their forms still and emanating an aura of annihilation, sending a chilling sensation through his heart.
He too felt a sense of unease, believing he had taken far too many lives this time.
An ominous chill seemed to envelop him from above.
Carrying Yu Er on his back, Mo Hua continued to put distance between himself and Third Grade Yanluo Mountain, heading towards the Qianxue State Boundary.
After some time had passed, a faint murmuring sound suddenly broke the silence. Mo Hua turned his head, noticing that Yu Er, still on his back, was slowly stirring awake.
"Brother… Mo?"
A trace of lingering fear could still be detected in Yu Er’s voice.
"Hmm." Mo Hua responded with a gentle nod and a warm smile.
Feeling a measure of reassurance, Yu Er softly inquired, "Where are we now? Those fiends…"
"It’s alright," Mo Hua soothed, his voice calm as he kept moving. "We are safe now. All those fiends have met their end."
"Dead…?"
Yu Er blinked in astonishment, only then grasping the profound silence surrounding them, the world appearing dim and somber.
She turned her head, bearing witness to the spectacle of the formation's self-destruction and the crumbling mountains in their wake. Her mouth fell open, her eyes wide with shock.
"Brother Mo, this is…"
"They met their downfall due to their wicked ways, eradicated by a benevolent passerby who acted on behalf of righteous justice."
"A passerby… benevolent brother?"
"Yes," Mo Hua confirmed with a nod. "An unknown brother, at that."
Yu Er gazed at Mo Hua with a vacant expression, then slowly nodded.
"So…" Mo Hua looked down at Yu Er, his gaze tender as he spoke softly, "It is all over. The nightmare has passed."
Yu Er’s innocent eyes quivered slightly, her vision blurring with moisture akin to spring raindrops.
"I will escort you back to your mother," Mo Hua stated gently.
