Jiang Huaizhou proposed to Dong Yujie, who accepted, leading them to decide to get married. Mrs. Dong encouraged Dong Yujie to not be nervous about meeting her father, who regrets his past actions. Later that night, Jiang Huaizhou and Dong Yujie shared their first kiss before retiring to their adjacent rooms, keeping their doors open.

"We don't need to go to each other's rooms. We can sit here and still see into each other's space," Jiang Huaizhou suggested.

Dong Yujie could clearly picture it: him reading across from her while she worked on her computer in her own room. If she happened to glance up, he'd be right there. Even separated by walls, it would feel like they were together.

A flush crept onto Dong Yujie's cheeks. She fiddled with a stray strand of hair near her temple. "I'm not tired yet. I'll head back to my room and play on my computer."

Her room featured a small desk positioned to face the door.

Jiang Huaizhou gave a knowing nod. "In that case, I'll do some reading."

"Wait," Dong Yujie quickly interjected. "I don't have work tomorrow, so I can sleep in. But you do. You can't stay up late."

"But I want to watch you," Jiang Huaizhou stated simply.

His sweet words made Dong Yujie smile. She was surprised to find him capable of such romantic gestures.

"That won't do," Dong Yujie replied, averting her gaze slightly. "I'm thinking, why don't you sleep, and maybe I can watch you from my room? At least I'll know you're there."

"Knowing you're there, even if I can't see you, will allow me to sense your presence. It's almost like seeing you, and that makes me happy," Dong Yujie explained.

After a moment's thought, Jiang Huaizhou proposed, "What if I moved my bed? Then I could see you even from my bed."

Dong Yujie found the idea rather peculiar.

It carried an unusually affectionate vibe.

"There's no need for that," Dong Yujie said hastily. "It's already very late. Don't trouble yourself."

"I won't use my laptop anymore. I'll go to sleep as well, then," Dong Yujie declared.

Otherwise, Jiang Huaizhou would likely keep proposing more ideas.

When had she ever realized he was quite so persistent?

Jiang Huaizhou seemed content with this, nodding his head.

Neither of them had yet attended to their evening routines.

Returning to their respective rooms, Dong Yujie promptly took a shower and brushed her teeth.

She emerged from the bathroom, her hair bundled in a towel.

The bathroom in her room was situated near the entrance.

This meant she'd be right at the doorway when exiting the bathroom. If the main door was left ajar, she'd have to pass by it whenever she needed to use the facilities.

As Dong Yujie stepped out from the bathroom, Jiang Huaizhou coincidentally emerged from his own.

She caught a glimpse from the corner of her eye that Jiang Huaizhou had just finished his shower too.

Simultaneously, they both turned and met each other's gaze.

A shared smile passed between them as they looked at one another.

"I'm going to do my skincare, dry my hair, and then sleep," Dong Yujie announced.

Jiang Huaizhou's eyes crinkled at the corners. "What a coincidence! I have everything in my room except for skincare products."

Since Jiang Huaizhou was rarely home, he didn't typically keep such common items stocked at his place. Consumables, after all, had expiration dates.

Consequently, Jiang Huaizhou always took his skincare supplies with him when he relocated. As for toothbrushes and toothpaste, spares were always readily available at home for replacements. Toothbrushes, of course, never expired.

Thus, these essentials were present in Jiang Huaizhou's room.

Dong Yujie paused, momentarily taken aback.

Then, Jiang Huaizhou asked, "Could I borrow yours?"

Dong Yujie readily agreed. She was about to head toward Jiang Huaizhou's room to hand over the skincare items, as her bedroom was merely a step away from his. But then, Jiang Huaizhou queried, "Should I come and get them from you?"

In Dong Yujie's view, Jiang Huaizhou appeared to be fabricating excuses just to see her. After all, not many young men possessed such meticulous grooming habits. Many boys, in fact, skipped skincare altogether and never experienced breakouts.

Dong Yujie recalled that Jiang Huaizhou hadn't bothered with such things in the past. He had even found applying moisturizer to be a hassle. During his time in prison, such luxuries were certainly unavailable.

Unless, of course, Jiang Huaizhou had undergone a significant transformation over the last year.

However, Dong Yujie chose not to call him out on it. She simply nodded and replied, "Sure."

Jiang Huaizhou promptly made his way over.

Given the proximity of their rooms, it took him mere moments to enter her space.

Dong Yujie suddenly realized just how close their rooms truly were.

Her skincare products were neatly arranged on the dressing table next to her bed. Jiang Huaizhou followed her gaze, then her towards the table.

He watched as Dong Yujie dispensed a small amount of liquid into her palm, gently patting it onto her face. Jiang Huaizhou then mimicked her actions, applying the same product to his own skin.

All he truly desired was some moisturizer.

Yet, he sought more chances to be near Dong Yujie.

Consequently, he mimicked everything Dong Yujie applied to her skin.

Dong Yujie's elaborate skincare regimen spanned a full hour.

Naturally, Jiang Huaizhou mirrored her routine, applying skincare to his own face.

Dong Yujie then offered a smile and bid him, "Goodnight, then."

Jiang Huaizhou responded with a look of resigned amusement, nodding as he said, "Goodnight."

They had exchanged "goodnight" greetings numerous times already this evening.

However, none of their farewells had truly concluded their interactions.

Dong Yujie escorted Jiang Huaizhou to his room. Glancing back, Jiang Huaizhou suddenly planted a kiss on her lips before swiftly retreating into his room.

Dong Yujie touched her lips, utterly bewildered.

She mused internally, 'We're already dating. If he wished to kiss me, he could have done so openly. There was no need to act like a secretive thief.'

Dong Yujie turned and headed back to the bathroom to dry her hair.

Upon exiting the bathroom, she instinctively turned her gaze toward Jiang Huaizhou's room.

There, she saw Jiang Huaizhou casually leaning against the doorframe, awaiting her emergence.

He was positioned against the door in a relaxed, almost languid manner, his handsomeness striking.

Dong Yujie understood he was waiting for her.

Accordingly, she waved at Jiang Huaizhou and offered, "Goodnight."

Jiang Huaizhou flashed a smile and replied, "Goodnight."

Dong Yujie then quickly slipped into her bed and settled down.

Pulling her blanket closer, she smiled, contemplating the sheer convenience of their rooms being situated directly opposite each other.

Nevertheless, sleep eluded her.

She couldn't help but wonder if Jiang Huaizhou had already drifted off to sleep.

Was he perhaps still leaning against his door, watching her?

These thoughts consumed Dong Yujie. She then stealthily rose from her bed and padded barefoot towards the door.

Unbeknownst to her, Jiang Huaizhou was indeed still positioned by his doorframe.

He had even contemplated approaching Dong Yujie's doorway, just to watch her sleep from outside her room.

Jiang Huaizhou acknowledged the creepiness of the impulse but found himself unable to resist it.

Although Dong Yujie's room was dark, ambient light filtered in through the window.

As light streamed in, Jiang Huaizhou noticed the shadow of her silhouette on the wall when she stood up.

He realized she had left her bed and assumed she needed to use the restroom.

Fearing detection, he hastily retreated to his own bed and concealed himself.

Dong Yujie reached her door. The room opposite hers remained silent; she saw no sign of Jiang Huaizhou.

Concluding he must have fallen asleep, she felt a sense of relief.

With her mind at ease, Dong Yujie returned to her bed and lay down once more.
