The Legendary Son-in-law of the Emperor Chapter 1807 - 1804: Leaving the Great Ruins
Previously on The Legendary Son-in-law of the Emperor...
Within the vast Great Ruins, the formidable figures from various major powers had nearly all departed. The members of the Loose Cultivation Alliance, too, were dismissed by Hai Dong, who remained alone by the Blood Sea, anticipating Ye Xuan's arrival.
After ensuring everyone else had left, Ye Xuan assisted Little Qiankun in securing the World Tree. Gazing at its immense form, a slight smile touched Ye Xuan's lips. He admitted to himself that the urge to refine it right there and then was strong. However, with the Great Ruins on the verge of closing and the surging darkness posing a pervasive threat, the surroundings were entirely unsuitable for such a delicate process.
Consequently, the most prudent course of action was to exit the Great Ruins and find a secure location. Ye Xuan felt no urgency about this, confident in his ability to locate a safe haven.
Emerging from the Qiankun Pot's world, Tong Wuji and Tushan Chen approached to offer their respects. The Qiankun Ancestor, now in human form, was engaged in a playful argument with the young girl dressed in black.
"Young master."
Cheng Kes also stepped forward. Ye Xuan offered a slight nod, his attention then shifting to Hai Dong.
Hai Dong, with a grand sweep of his long robe and a drop to one knee, clasped his fists and declared in a humble tone, "Hai Dong is willing to go through fire and water for Young Master Ye."
Ye Xuan's expression remained impassive, and he offered no immediate response. Witnessing this, Hai Dong gritted his teeth and added, "If Young Master Ye still harbors doubts, then I am willing to open my Sea of Consciousness!" As he spoke, Hai Dong proceeded to expose his Sea of Consciousness.
Boom! The moment Hai Dong opened his Sea of Consciousness, Ye Xuan's Emperor Soul surged into it instantly. Hai Dong didn't even have a chance to shield himself. Ye Xuan's Emperor Soul entered Hai Dong's Sea of Consciousness with overwhelming force, confronting Hai Dong's Divine Soul directly.
At this juncture, Hai Dong's Divine Soul appeared minuscule, cowering in a corner of his Sea of Consciousness like an ant, unable to even raise its gaze towards Ye Xuan. An ineffable terror gripped his heart, leaving Hai Dong speechless.
"Your aptitude might not be exceptional, but your temperament is quite commendable. I shall refrain from using a Soul Seal to bind you." After delivering this potent display of dominance, Ye Xuan withdrew his Emperor Soul and spoke in a calm tone.
Hai Dong's face was deathly pale, his entire body trembling. Mustering his strength to stand upright, he bowed to Ye Xuan and said, "Many thanks, young master!"
In truth, this kind of intimidation often proved more effective than a Soul Seal, especially for someone as inherently proud as Hai Dong. It allowed him to confront reality squarely, ensuring he understood his new position.
It was precisely for this moment that Ye Xuan had instructed Tong Wuji to discipline Hai Dong within the Heavenly Swallowing Toad previously. He valued temperament more than raw talent. While talents like Nie Jing or Yue Chong surpassed Hai Dong’s, Ye Xuan found Hai Dong’s disposition more appealing.
This young Loose Cultivator, who had honed his resilience through hardship, possessed the crucial ability to recognize and accept reality. Such individuals, when faced with unwavering strength, would offer lifelong loyalty. Conversely, should that strength wane, they would depart without hesitation. Such was Hai Dong's pragmatic approach to life.
Observing this scene unfold, Cheng Kes reflected thoughtfully, beginning to grasp her young master's criteria for assessing individuals.
Having accepted Hai Dong, Ye Xuan turned his gaze towards the deeper recesses of the Great Ruins. There, darkness as thick as ink churned like a relentless tide, obscuring even the fierce battle between the mysterious one-armed, six-eyed monster and the Great Ruins Demon Vine Ancestor Root.
An absolute silence permeated the entire Great Ruins, signaling an impending state of deathly stillness. Even the surrounding Blood Sea seemed to hold its breath, its surface devoid of even a ripple.
"Let us depart." The group set their course towards the exit of the Great Ruins.
Upon exiting, they observed that the palaces situated outside the Great Ruins had not been dismantled, as if awaiting a specific event.
"These individuals... are they anticipating our arrival?" Hai Dong inquired in a low voice, a cold glint flashing in his eyes. Cheng Kes’s pretty face turned solemn as she stated, "Young master has acquired the Immortal Treasure. Those scoundrels must have spread the news."
Tong Wuji and Tushan Chen, however, maintained their composure, standing like stoic generals of the netherworld to Ye Xuan's left and right. The Qiankun Ancestor walked beside Ye Xuan, inhaling deeply before smiling with narrowed eyes, "The winds rise and the waves surge—fine heads one after another."
"Wuji." Ye Xuan called out calmly. Tong Wuji responded with respectful readiness, "Here."
Ye Xuan spoke calmly, "Contact members of the Mystical Hall and the Dao Xuan Sect within the Demon Realm. Instruct them to receive Tushan Chen."
Receive Tushan Chen?
Tong Wuji was momentarily taken aback. Was Tushan Chen intending to travel to the Demon Realm?
Tong Wuji respectfully acknowledged the order.
Beside them, Tushan Chen also reacted, "Emperor Ye, wasn't this subordinate meant to accompany you onto the Emperor Road?"
Ye Xuan shook his head, stating, "That was indeed the initial arrangement."
Tushan Chen immediately grasped the situation.
Earlier, when Qingqiu Mountain departed the Great Ruins, its trajectory was set towards the Demons Great World.
This venture was originally intended to be overseen by Great-Grandfather. With his passing, only Tushan Chen, the Qingqiu Fox King, could personally undertake this responsibility.
"I understand," Tushan Chen replied, his voice betraying a hint of disappointment.
He had greatly desired to remain by Emperor Ye's side and ascend the Emperor Road together.
"The Emperor Road is on the verge of opening. Upon your arrival in the Demons Great World, you will be met. You will then traverse the Emperor Road of the Demons Great World, where the second stage of the Emperor Road converges."
Ye Xuan elucidated the plan for Tushan Chen. "Naturally, if you cannot forge your path through the Demon Realm's Emperor Road, these words hold no weight. I shall designate someone else to oversee Qingqiu Mountain."
He offered no room for leniency.
Hearing this, Tushan Chen felt a chill but responded solemnly, "This subordinate will not fail the mission."
"You may go." Ye Xuan gestured dismissively.
"This subordinate takes his leave."
Tushan Chen then proceeded towards the nearby Qingqiu Mountain.
Cheng Kes and Hai Dong, having overheard the exchange, were left in a state of stunned silence.
It appeared that beneath the surface, the Young Master commanded immense hidden forces!
This realization brought a measure of ease to both of them.
After all, Ye Xuan was now extremely likely to become a target for the entirety of the Xuanhuang Great World.
Any faction could potentially move against Ye Xuan.
This was especially true for the Great Emperor Immortal Sects.
They were known for their unbridled and unscrupulous actions.
"Young Master, where shall we proceed next?" Hai Dong inquired proactively.
"Wuji, escort them to the Emperor Immortal Sect," Ye Xuan instructed with a wave of his hand.
"Understood." Tong Wuji accepted the command.
"Eh? Is the Young Master not accompanying us?" Cheng Kes asked, bewildered.
Ye Xuan offered a slight smile. "I am already within the Emperor Immortal Sect."
Upon hearing this, Cheng Kes and Hai Dong both shivered involuntarily.
Could the Ye Xuan standing before them be merely an Avatar?
Could such an astonishingly powerful Avatar exist?
The two dared not press further and instead followed Tong Wuji, heading directly towards the East Desolate region of Daozhou.
Only Ye Xuan, the Qiankun Ancestor, and the young girl in black remained.
The Ye Xuan present was, of course, his main body; however, not all truths needed to be disclosed to outsiders.
Ye Xuan did not depart immediately but instead ambled around the periphery of the Great Ruins.
His demeanor suggested he was anticipating others to make a move for the Immortal Treasure.
This left the numerous great forces observing from the outside in a quandary.
If they attacked, Ye Xuan’s overt actions clearly indicated a potential trap.
If they refrained from attacking, this represented a fleeting opportunity. Once Ye Xuan retreated to the Emperor Immortal Sect, would they truly dare to seek him out at his stronghold to cause trouble?
From any logical standpoint, such a course of action would be nonsensical.
While the Great Emperor Immortal Sects operated with considerable arrogance, they invariably sought a justified pretext for their actions. Only then could they present their conduct as righteous.
In reality, this pretense was utterly laughable.
