The Last Paragon in the Apocalypse Chapter 1465: Nine-Headed Demon Spider
Previously on The Last Paragon in the Apocalypse...
Upon stepping through to the portal's opposite side, Rory materialized in a haunting woodland. Immediately, her eyes caught sight of countless spider webs, twisted and interlaced into myriad deadly formations.
Thick crimson webs linked the branches together, each one razor-sharp enough to sever the limbs of a True Immortal.
The instant danger prickled in the atmosphere, she summoned the vital ally she required, "Klaus."
Regrettably, silence answered. She whirled around, discovering her solitude. Klaus had vanished, as had her three teammates: Slate, Omen, and Echo.
A brief stun gripped her, yet a deafening blast from the east urged her forward, and she complied. Harnessing her space law, she bridged the gap to the explosion.
With a single stride, she closed in to just 1 km from the blast site.
'Damn, I forgot I am now a True Immortal.'
The Nest's suppression had forced her cultivation to the True Immortal realm, rendering her space law far more taxing on her frame than during her Immortal Lord phase.
Regardless, she steadied her mind and tackled the pressing concerns. Klaus remained missing, yet the explosion drew her to investigate.
In the far off distance, her sight fixed on a towering 300-meter spider, its form shielded by a metallic shell, metal legs dripping venomous drool that scorched the earth below.
Nine gigantic heads adorned it, every one arrayed with clusters of multicolored eyes.
"Nine-Headed Demon Spider"
Rory identified it right away. She'd battled one previously, though never such a colossal and armored behemoth.
Most unnerving, the spider's aura exceeded True Immortal levels. Closer scrutiny sent shivers of peril deep into her marrow.
"An Immortal Lord...but how?"
The Nest ought to limit all cultivation to Peak True Immortal. Yet this demon spider wielded Immortal Lord might.
Mentally still an Immortal Lord herself, she grasped the peril they faced. Curiously, the threat arose not from its metallic construction or Immortal Lord status.
Rather, peril emanated from an elusive source she couldn't pinpoint. This spider demon concealed far more than met the eye.
Instinct screamed for her to flee, but she dismissed it, opting for sharper observation...
Her eyes sharpened on the trio fleeing the abomination, shifting her intent. A silver bow materialized in her steady grasp, unleashing an arrow moments later.
The projectile sliced the sky at lethal velocity, targeted at one of the nine heads.
In the remote distance, Omen wielded his sword fiercely, unleashing swing after swing toward one of the spider's fourteen legs. Yet every sword stroke ricocheted harmlessly off.
Discouraging indeed, given the resounding noise each strike produced upon hitting the spider's leg.
CLING
It resembled metal clanging against metal, except the attacking metal suffered the dents.
'Damn it,'
Omen tumbled aside, barely dodging the spider's stabbing assault. Safety eluded him still. No sooner had he hit the ground than another leg lunged.
Fortune smiled as Echo intervened. Brandishing her staff, she invoked spatial law to widen the space separating Omen from the spider.
This allowed Omen a clean getaway.
Slate blurred like gusts of wind, positioning under the spider's massive underbelly. Spear in hand, he struck at the belly joints, intent on tearing them apart.
His efforts yielded only clanging echoes and flashing sparks as the tip grated over the spider's abdomen.
Muttering curses, he tore open a void rift and dove inside. Instantly, he rematerialized next to Echo.
"Damn it... Where is the Renegade Hunter and the Princess?"
Right as the words left his mouth, a silver arrow whistled by, burying deep into one of the spider's myriad eyes. The force jerked a head backward, spraying green ichor skyward.
Upon hitting the soil, it began dissolving the earth, noxious fumes and poison billowing up.
Omen, Slate, and Echo whipped toward the arrow's origin. High above, they beheld Rory, encased in gleaming silver armor, seven golden fabric cords streaming behind like a majestic cape.
A radiant golden halo floated over her crown, unleashing a powerful aura that swept over the trio in an instant.
Invigoration surged through them.
"Since when did the Princess become an Angel?" Echo whispered, her gaze alight with a devotee's fervor at beholding her icon so near.
Rory loosed a second arrow, followed by third, fourth, and fifth.
By that point, she had drawn far nearer to her comrades.
"What a way to kick off the day, huh?" Smiling, she unleashed another arrow before touching down on solid ground. The spider staggered backward, six eyes now blinded with silver arrows protruding from them.
This granted the team a brief window to plan their strategy.
"Where is Klaus..." she wondered aloud, yet her three comrades stared at her strangely.
"We figured he was with you."
"He isn't. I materialized alone in a forest 10 km that way. Moments later, the explosion rang out, so I raced here hoping to spot him."
Her three teammates exchanged uneasy glances. "He's not with us either, and to be honest, we dropped in five minutes ago, straight into this nightmare. Needless to say, this hellhole isn't rolling out the welcome mat."
A menacing hiss escaped the spider, instantly shifting the air pressure. Rory's eyes sharpened, detecting the looming threat with heightened clarity.
The other three followed suit, quickly uncovering the danger's origin. The moment they did, cold sweat beaded on their skin.
"We need to fall back right now," Rory declared, on the verge of invoking space magic to whisk them away, but a slender web strand snared them, erecting a 3 km-wide enclosure.
She knew instantly that fleeing was impossible. The fragile-looking spiderweb pulsed with unnatural power—not mere silk, but the spider-demon's domain solidified into reality.
This suggested the creature teetered on the edge of demigod status. True demigods alone could project their domains physically, imposing their will more forcefully upon the world.
'Wherever you might be, Klaus, stay far from this place.' Rory whispered a silent plea before launching skyward once more. In the blink of an eye, silver flames erupted around her, igniting the trailing ropes.
These morphed into lethal, extraterrestrial whips, twisting wildly in the air as if alive with their own cunning.
"That's a Calamity Beast—our Immortal Rings can't touch it. Slate, Omen, keep the monster occupied. Echo, figure out an escape route. I'll bring it down or go out fighting,"
She eyed the colossal spider with a grin. "Though dying's off the table—I've got plans waiting after this expedition."
The heavens blazed alight as a devastating arrow cleaved through the sky.
