The Kingmaker System Chapter 749 - 748. The New World Tree (3)
Previously on The Kingmaker System...
Issyrha watched the whole ordeal of Reina showing the Elves their places, she had no intention of getting involved in the matters of the Elves but watching as how the new World Tree was so attached to Reina it made Issyrha wonder if this young Dragon was now in control of the world and every life on it.
She watched as Reina walked past the Elves, her little body looking so frail that Issyrha feared a strong gust of wind might blow her away.
"Since it’s all done, let’s head back." Issyrha said.
Reina stopped and then plopped down on one of the thick protruding roots, turning her head to Issyrha.
"I can’t leave."
Issyrha’s eyes narrowed, "What do you mean?"
"I have no mana, I have to stay close to this new World Tree till I replenish my reserves only then I would be able to leave."
Issyrha frowned and then sighed, "You can recover at your place too, can’t you? All those people you said you had to protect will be worried sick if you suddenly disappeared."
Zale, who was listening stepped closer to Reina.
"Pardon me for speaking up without permission, but, it’s fine, Master has the communication brooch. He can use that to inform the people in Sestia about his situation here." Zale said.
Issyrha contemplated over it while Reina sighed.
"About that," she spoke, "I don’t think that’s possible."
Issyrha’s eyebrows furrowed a little.
"What do you mean?"
Reina slumped back against the root and said, "My communication brooch, my earstud and all of the other mana devices I had, are destroyed. I can’t transform, can’t send a message, can’t do anything."
For a moment, neither Issyrha, nor Zale spoke anything, the others present couldn’t discern on what was going on.
"So you’re only a little human child now?" Zale asked.
Reina glanced at him, maintaining an expressionless face, so it was hard to know what was going on in her head. She didn’t seem particularly concerned and only a few minutes ago she had shown that despite her physical appearance, she wasn’t to be underestimated.
Reina simply hummed in response and Issyrha sighed. She hadn’t ever come across a scenario where a Dragon- a Supreme Dragon of all would be reduced to such a weak state. But then again, considering the huge feat, Reina was possibly one of the most fortunate beings to be alive even after planting and growing the new World Tree.
"It’s worrisome, they might come here." Zale mumbled.
"Anything but that." Reina muttered to herself.
Aelfric, who watched them all, hesitantly stepped ahead.
"Y-You can use the brooch that was given to me."
Reina turned her lazy gaze on him and then sighed, "Won’t work, the one communication brooch on me is the main one, it connects to every brooch made of the mana stone in existence. But, since the connector is destroyed, it’s nearly impossible for me to connect to all of them."
Reina leaned her head back, feeling sleepy and exhausted, she had been fighting all day and all night after all.
Issyrha and the two Kings glanced at each other, watching as Reina’s eyes slowly slid closed.
Just as she was drifting off to sleep, her eyes snapped open and she sat up straight making almost everyone flinch.
"What?!" Issyrha blurted out and Reina stretched her hand in the direction of Aelfric.
Aelfric tilted his head for a second before he understood and quickly pulled out the mana stone brooch from his sleeve and approached Reina.
He gently placed the brooch in her small, pale palm and Reina just stared at it. Since she couldn’t access to her mana, she couldn’t activate the brooch.
She then looked at Issyrha who looked confused and Zale stepped ahead.
"Is there some problem, Master?" He asked.
"I don’t have mana." Reina answered, with a deadpan look.
Zale blinked before his lips went "o" and he walked closer, sitting on his knee before reaching out to her.
"Pardon me." He spoke as he let his palm hover over the mana stone in her hand.
He channeled a small amount of his aura into the brooch and the mana stone started glowing.
Reina raised her other hand, gesturing for Zale to stop. She held the brooch close to her mouth.
"Kai?" She spoke, "Roan? Is anyone there?"
She waited for a second before she spoke again, "Roan? Hey, is anyone there?"
Silence lingered for a few more seconds before she sighed. She had recalled about this one substitute communication brooch that was always in her office for the cases of emergencies. It was just like the one which she carried on her all the time but considering nobody was responding either meant that she failed to connect to that brooch or nobody was in the office.
Just as Reina was about to put the brooch down, she heard the sound of crackling and shuffling.
"Master? Is that you?!" She heard Roan’s voice seep through.
"Yes, it’s me." Reina answered.
"What’s wrong with your voice? Another disguise?" Roan asked.
Reina answered his question with a question of her own, "What’s going on over there?"
Roan sighed, "It’s a huge mess, Master. When are you returning? You won’t believe what happened at the colosseum. The whole kingdom is in chaos, a lot of people have died and well, about the colosseum-"
"I can’t return right away." Reina spoke, cutting him off.
"What?" Roan almost shouted, "Why?! We can’t handle it without you!"
Reina sighed, "I understand but... I can’t leave this place for another 5 days."
Roan heaved a deep sigh, "Master, the Golden Serpent is dead."
Reina’s eyebrows furrowed, "What? How?"
Roan sighed again, "Long story... It seems like she was possessed by a demon and well... Princess Alys had to come forth and kill the demon... Golden Serpent- the Queen died along. The whole kingdom is in an uproar, they think the Queen had conspired with the Dark Forces and well... The King has been asking for you."
Reina massaged her temples, some things did go awry despite her meticulous planning.
"Tell the King I’m gravely injured and can’t meet anyone. And bring Kai."
"All right."
Issyrha walked over and took a seat beside Reina.
Reina glanced at the Elves and others who were still gathered around, they all simply stood there staring at her.
"What?" She asked, "Don’t you all have damage control to do?"
The people who had just been standing and staring suddenly seemed to have gotten back to their senses as they started discussing among themselves and Reina glanced at Fior and Yttriva.
Yttriva approached Xeveris, "Xeveris, I’m sorry... I know it’s a very difficult position but, I’ll assure you, I and my grandson will not be your trouble anymore."
"Don’t say it, Yttriva. I also failed in my duty and that’s why this all happened." Xeveris said and then glanced at Fior.
"But, his execution might be demanded so, it’s better if you..."
Yttriva’s expression grew solemn and she looked up at the new World Tree before she looked at Fior who was talking to the other young Dark Elves.
"I understand." She said.
"Master?" Kai’s voice pulled Reina’s attention and she looked down at the glowing brooch.
"Kai." Reina spoke, her voice grew softer and relieved, "How are you?"
"I’m fine, but Master, what happened? Why do you sound like this? Are you hurt? Why can’t you come soon? Roan told me that you can’t come back anytime soon. What happened? Please tell me, shall I come over if you need healing?" Kai bombarded Reina with questions before she could even manage any response.
A small smile softened Reina’s expression and Issyrha observed the little girl’s face before she let out a sigh herself. Caelthir had told her that Solcarion cherished this little Dragon, it was quite puzzling for Issyrha at first since Reina wasn’t even a born Dragon, she was a human who was blessed and gained the mana heart of her Kin Aeltharos. So, she couldn’t bring herself to understand why Solcarion would stay by her side despite her treating him like a child, now she could see the hint of it.
"I’m fine, Kai. It’s just I used up all of my mana and I have to stay here for 5 more days to recover."
"What?! Are you all right, Master? You’re not hurt anywhere, are you?" Kai sounded panicked.
"I’m unhurt, Kai. Don’t worry. I’m just... a little weak at the moment." Reina said.
"Then why does your voice sound like this?... It almost sounds like a baby’s..."
Issyrha almost burst out laughing and Reina sighed.
"That’s because my body has been turned into a child’s to keep mana recovery from taking a toll on my body." She explained.
There was a moment of silence which made Reina wonder if the connection was lost.
"I’m coming to Edrisyl!" Kai announced.
"Master in a baby form! I’m coming too!" Reina heard Roan shouting in background.
"I’ll go prepare a ship or wait- let’s go see Archmage Silas!"
"Yes, he can take us to Edrisyl right away!"
"Hold up you guys!" Reina raised her voice to keep the two excited idiots from awaking Silas. Human kingdom was on the other side of the earth, so it was night there while it was daytime on Edrisyl. Silas might already be busy with some work and amid that if these two went and put more workload on him at this moment, he would surely scold them to moon and back.
"Nobody’s going anywhere." Reina said firmly.
"Why?!’ Roan shouted.
"But I wanted to see Master in baby form!" Kai whined.
Reina tried not to sigh again as she said, "Kai, you’re my heir and representative, Roan, you are to help him. And Lyall, protect him."
"How did you know Lyall was here?" Roan asked.
The corner of Reina’s lips curled up as she said, "He’s assigned to protect Kai in my absence."
Roan sighed and Reina heard the sounds of soft footfalls.
"Master." Lyall spoke politely.
"I hope all the forces that were dispatched are unharmed, Lyall, including my Eldarf team."
"There are no casualties on our side, Master. However, Oasis and a lot of towns, including the Western Harbor are all destroyed."
Reina hummed, "Roan, handle our side using Oasis Foundation funds, as for the other places, send a letter to His Majesty in my name asking for a meeting next week regarding the repairs and damage control."
"I will do that, but what about the Queen’s situation here? Now that Princess Alys had come forth, the situation has become complicated."
Reina hummed, her eyes drifting over to the Elves again.
"Well, my Aunt had to reveal herself to the world sooner or later, don’t worry about her. My Uncle and Grandfather can handle that."
"Your father and brother came down to the mansion looking for you. They were really worried. What do we tell them?" Roan said.
Reina paused, thinking for a moment watching as the Elders of both sides were talking amongst themselves, while Fior and Yttriva stood on one side.
"Tell them that I’m recuperating here and don’t let them hop on a ship to come here."
"But, Master-" Kai started.
"Don’t worry," Reina said, "My father and brother know me. Besides, have Uncle Silas contact me..."
"Ah, speaking of contacting, we were trying to reach your communication device." Kai said.
"It broke." Reina said, "I’ll be using the ones that are here."
"But how..." Kai wondered.
"Send him a message, tell him to be in my office tomorrow afternoon with my father, brother, grandfather, Prince Eric and Grand Duchess. Make sure Davian doesn’t come along."
"Why?" Kai asked.
Roan sighed, "Because he doesn’t know about Master’s true form."
Kai hummed, "All right."
"Won’t you ask about me, Kai?" Issyrha who had been quiet until that time spoke up.
"Ah, Kin Issyrha, you’re there too! How are you?"
Issyrha couldn’t help but feel a little irked but then she just sighed, Kai was the successor of Reina and it was clear that the two prioritised one another, much like herself and Kin Aeltharos.
"I’m fine, where’s Caelthir?" She asked.
"I don’t know..." Kai spoke.
"He must be at Eldarf." Roan supplied.
"He’s not there." Lyall answered making both Issyrha and Reina frown.
Issyrha shook her head and shrugged, "It’s fine, he’s like that. Since the entertainment is done there he must have fallen asleep somewhere."
Reina hummed as she watched Yttriva and Fior bowing deeply before the Elves and then they glanced at each other, no words were exchanged but they just turned and started walking away.
"That’s all for now, I’ll contact you tomorrow afternoon. Take care of yourselves." Reina spoke quickly before placing the brooch in Zale’s hand and rose to her feet.
