The King's Lover Chapter 556: Drag Her Out
Previously on The King's Lover...
Rose lay in her bed with a blanket over her. She had washed off the dirt and worn a fresh dress. Aside from the small cut on her lip, there was no sign of her visit to the dungeons.
The girls had looked horrified when he walked into the room with her in such a state, but they had quickly cleaned her up and got her into bed.
Caius didn’t leave her room the whole time and after she got into bed, he sat next to her with no plans to leave.
"I have sent for the physician. He should get here soon." He grabbed her palm. "I am sorry, Rose. I should have sent her away a long time ago, not until this."
Rose shook her head and squeezed his palm. At first, she had wondered if she had gone a little overboard, but it was easy to keep up her act when she saw her husband’s reaction.
She had to bury her face in his chest multiple times to hide her smile, especially when he ordered his mother to be sent away.
It was certainly better than anything she could have suggested. The only downside was the fact that he chose Castle Catherine; she was hoping to visit there.
But she would certainly pick never visiting Castle Catherine overVioleta spending another moment in the castle.
"I can’t believe she hit you hard enough to cut your lip."
The slap wasn’t even hard enough to leave a mark. The cut was after the guards had led her to the dungeons.
Rose had purposely bitten herself and then, while walking to the dungeons, she pretended to trip. In an attempt to help her, one of the guards stepped on her dress and ripped it.
The dirt was easy—the cell was covered in it, and she made sure she touched every inch of it before sitting on the ground.
The guards themselves had been too scared to touch her, and she had walked into the cell by herself.
However, Violeta did demand the crown as she was going away, and Rose gave it to her without a fight, surprising the old hag.
Rose lifted her hand to her lips. "It’s a small cut. I’ll heal."
A conflicted expression passed across his face. "Are you hurting anywhere else?" he asked again.
She slowly shook her head, her heart squeezing slightly. He must be very worried, but the Queen had to go, and she was glad he came to that conclusion himself.
"No," she whispered and grabbed his arm. "I am more worried about the baby, but I didn’t let her touch my stomach. I promise, I’m fine. Just a little exhausted. It’s been quite a day."
"I can’t believe she—"
Rose jerked as her bedroom door was flung open and Violeta barged into the room. Maximus and Delan both stood outside the door, but neither of them could stop her.
"Caius!" she screeched and pointed at the bed. "What is the meaning of this? You are sending me away from the castle because of that."
He jumped out of his chair immediately and placed himself between them.
"You won’t speak to my wife like that! How could you? You attacked her, injured her, and threw her in the dungeons."
"Injured her?" Violeta asked in confusion as she glared at Rose, who was staring right at her from behind Caius. There was a hint of a smile on her lips.
"You even took her crown!"
"It was never hers to begin with. It was your grandmother’s. To dress a whore in your grandmother’s treasured crown—have you no regard?"
"That’s enough! Get out, Mother. I won’t repeat myself. You have consistently disrespected my wife and my unborn child. Do you not care for your grandchild?"
"That is no grandchild—"
"Get out! I won’t repeat myself. Never show yourself to me again." He stepped forward, looking down at his mother. "If you return to the castle without permission, you will regret it."
"You are chasing me away. Your own mother! She slapped me, and this is how you treat me."
"If you weren’t my mother, it would be much worse. Maximus. Take her away."
"Caius," she yelled, looking at him, but he turned his gaze away from her and walked back to Rose.
"My love," he whispered as he sat next to her, and she grabbed his arm.
"You!" Violeta pointed at Rose. "How dare you take my son away from me?!"
Rose tilted her head so Caius didn’t see the smile she gave Violeta.
The old Queen’s eyes turned red, and she took a step towards Rose, but Maximus blocked her path.
"Your Majesty, please."
"Caius," Rose whispered, weakly. "I feel quite tired. When will the physician get here?"
"Does your stomach hurt?" He asked with wide eyes and she shook her head.
"The physician would be here very soon," he added, kissing the back of her palm as he kept ignoring his mother.
"Your Majesty, the carriage is ready to take you to Castle Catherine. I’ll ensure your safe arrival."
Violeta’s expression fell as she realized that there was nothing she could do. Although, the King was her son, he had just given her an order. She couldn’t refuse.
The conniving witch had turned her own son against her. Rose met her gaze again while no one was looking in her direction, and her lips moved.
Violeta’s vision turned red; her expression was a mix of horror and anger. She tried to rush for the bed again, but Maximus easily blocked her path.
"Caius!" She cried. "She is lying to you and turning you against me."
She sniffed and forced tears out of her eyes, but her son didn’t even look at her. The whore had completely turned him against her.
"Maximus, it can’t be that hard to get her out of here. Drag her out, if you must."
"Drag me?! You would drag out your own—"
"Your Majesty," Maximus cut in. "Please comply. The King has given an order."
The older man took a deep breath as he tried to navigate the difficult situation. Despite the King’s orders, Violeta was still a Queen; he couldn’t just put his hands on her and drag her out.
He took a step forward, forcing her to take a step back towards the door. Her expression darkened, but they both knew she couldn’t put up a fight and she grudgingly walked out of the room.
