The Invincible Full-Moon System Chapter 6 Transformation
Previously on The Invincible Full-Moon System...
Rosie followed behind Rex, her mind filled with a growing sense of intrigue.
As she observed the reddish-white steam radiating from Rex's skin, she became certain that there was much more to him than he let on.
However, his sudden, frantic sprinting left her utterly bewildered.
Being an Awakened, Rosie managed to keep pace with Rex's speed with minimal exertion, skillfully navigating through the mall's shoppers. Rex, on the other hand, showed no such courtesy, barreling through the crowd without trying to avoid anyone.
His velocity only intensified as he neared the exit of the shopping center.
Rosie watched as Rex burst out of the mall and immediately tilted his head toward the sky, his bizarre behavior deepening her confusion.
Then, without warning, Rex collapsed onto the pavement.
Startled by his sudden fall, Rosie rushed to his side, only to find his features twisted in an expression of intense agony.
Watching Rex writhe on the ground while clutching his body in pain, Rosie felt a wave of helplessness wash over her.
"Hey! Are you okay?! What's wrong?!" Rosie cried out, her voice laced with anxiety.
Even though she lacked interest in Rex because he wasn't an Awakened, she couldn't bring herself to abandon someone in such a desperate state.
Overcome with shock, Rosie hurried toward him once more.
Caught in the grip of overwhelming torment, Rex managed to whisper a single word: "H-Help..."
"What was that? I couldn't hear you, say it again!"
"Are you ill? Do you need medicine? Talk to me!"
Because Rex’s plea was so faint, Rosie failed to catch it, and her stress levels spiked as she struggled to handle the unfolding crisis.
The surrounding pedestrians began to take notice of Rex collapsed on the floor.
A crowd started to assemble, whispering among themselves as they watched Rex suffer. Rosie clenched her teeth, finally deciding that she had to get him away from the public eye.
She reached into her purse and retrieved a white crystal.
As Rosie crushed the object, the white crystal emitted a brilliant radiance that swallowed both of them, shielding them from the prying eyes of the onlookers.
When the blinding light finally faded, both Rosie and Rex had vanished.
"Where did they go?" a man in a jumper suit asked, stunned.
A middle-aged woman nearby answered, "They teleported. It’s a Transferral Crystal, one of the UWO’s latest inventions."
"They must be Awakened; those things cost a fortune," another bystander remarked.
Meanwhile, a flash of light signaled their arrival inside a mansion located a short distance from Nokas mall.
Rosie had chosen to bring them to her family home, as she had nowhere else to turn. Since the transferral crystal was specifically bound to her residence, taking him to a hospital hadn't been an option.
"ARRGGHH!!" Rex suddenly shrieked.
The sound made Rosie jump. She looked down at Rex, who was still doubled over in pain. "Rex, talk to me! What’s happening? How can I help?"
Rex didn't reply; instead, he shoved her away as the sound of snapping bones filled the air.
Crack!
Krack!
The sickening noise of skeletal restructuring echoed as Rex’s frame began to expand. His fingernails elongated into sharp points, and his teeth sharpened into fangs.
Before Rosie's very eyes, Rex’s already toned physique swelled into something inhumanly powerful.
What truly terrified Rosie, however, was more than just his increasing size; jet-black hair was sprouting across his entire body, rapidly transforming into thick fur.
Witnessing this, Rosie began to retreat instinctively.
'Is he undergoing an awakening? But there’s no elemental energy in this change,' Rosie thought while analyzing Rex. This was nothing like the typical process an Awakened went through.
As Rex’s spine began to arch, Rosie’s survival instincts screamed that she was in grave danger.
Without hesitating, she tapped into her abilities, her body becoming enveloped in a vibrant green aura. "I have to get him into the training hall," she whispered to herself.
Having made her decision, Rosie lunged toward Rex and shouted, "Wind Gale!"
Swoosh!
She slammed her palms against Rex’s back, releasing a powerful blast of air that propelled him into the adjacent room.
The moment Rex was inside, Rosie slammed the door shut.
'He definitely isn't normal... How can someone who isn't an Awakened make me shake like this?' Rosie wondered, staring at her trembling hands.
In the meantime, Rex was enduring the most excruciating torture of his life.
'What is going on?! Is that system I thought was a prank actually real?!' Rex screamed internally. He stared at his hand, which was now covered in fur, sporting claws as long and sharp as daggers.
Despite the evidence right in front of him, Rex struggled to accept reality.
"It can't be... I'm a human! I'm not one of those foul Supernaturals!"
"AAHHH!!" he bellowed at the top of his lungs.
The metamorphosis was still in progress; his bones continued to shift and elongate as his stature grew.
For two excruciating minutes, Rex’s shrill cries and screams filled the air.
Rosie stood outside the door on shaky legs, the sounds of agony coming from within sending icy shivers down her spine.
'Could he be a supernatural?' Rosie questioned herself.
She immediately shook her head. 'No, there isn't a single supernatural race capable of turning into a human. It's impossible for Rex to be one of them,' she reasoned.
Eventually, Rex’s screams began to fade until the mansion fell into an eerie silence.
The house, previously filled with the sounds of pain, was now deathly quiet.
Gathering her courage, Rosie pressed her ear against the door.
As she listened to the sounds within, she detected a low, guttural growling that didn't sound remotely human.
Her heart hammered against her ribs, and she felt a desperate urge to see what was happening. Driven by curiosity, she decided to take a look.
Creak...
The door yielded slightly as she gave it a gentle push.
Fully expecting Rex to have transformed, Rosie peered into the room, keeping her powers active for protection.
The training room was vast, roughly the size of a basketball court.
Rows of weapons were organized along the walls, and a large window at the far end stood open, letting in the night air.
Rosie swallowed hard as her gaze landed on the center of the hall.
There, she saw a dark silhouette standing on two legs, illuminated by the crimson glow of the blood-red moonlight streaming through the window.
Deep gouges were visible in the wooden floor, clearly made by the creature’s claws.
She froze in terror when the beast suddenly turned its head toward her.
With its back to her, the creature's glowing yellow eyes locked onto her through the red moonlight. Its form remained somewhat humanoid, yet it possessed lethal claws and fangs.
With Rex missing, Rosie was certain that this beast was him.
Given his current appearance, it was clear he was only a half-Werewolf; he lacked a full snout and wasn't as massive as a standard Werewolf.
Nevertheless, the sight of a Werewolf filled her with profound dread.
Werewolves were among the most dominant Supernatural races, regarded as high-ranking elites and the core strength of the Supernatural world.
Their predatory nature and overwhelming power were the stuff of human nightmares.
Furthermore, Werewolves were the most dangerous foes to encounter after sunset.
While a group of elite Awakened might take one down during the day, a Werewolf’s power surged at night, turning them into horrors straight out of a dark fairy tale.
Rosie backed away instinctively as she held Rex’s gaze.
Her movement triggered a reaction from Rex, who slowly turned his entire body to face her, his yellow eyes never wavering.
Rosie found herself holding her breath.
Her legs felt like jelly under the weight of that bloodthirsty stare.
Grr...
A low growl vibrated in Rex’s throat as he bared his teeth.
"Rex... I-It's me, snap out of it!" Rosie pleaded, hoping that some part of his human consciousness remained.
Despite his transformation into a Werewolf, she refused to believe Rex was truly a monster.
The way he looked at his mother with such kindness and his generally polite nature convinced her this wasn't his true self. Besides, she still couldn't wrap her head around a Supernatural being able to pass for a human.
However, Rex had already lost his grip on reality.
The primitive urges and the thirst brought on by the Blood Moon had drowned him in bloodlust, making him deaf to Rosie's pleas.
In his red-tinted vision, Rosie was nothing more than prey. Saliva began to leak from his jaws.
As Rosie backed toward the door,
Rex’s eyes flashed with predatory intent. He lunged at her, his hands tensed and ready to tear her apart with his metallic claws.
Slash!
At the last possible second, Rosie used a burst of wind to propel herself out of harm's way.
The attack missed, but Rex’s momentum carried him into the door, slamming it shut. Rosie’s face drained of color.
She was terrified; her only path of escape was now blocked by Rex.
Left with no other choice, Rosie gritted her teeth, knowing she had to fight.
'How can I, a rank two Awakened, survive a Werewolf that even high-ranking warriors fear?' Rosie thought, cold sweat dripping down her neck.
Then, a thought struck her.
She scanned the room desperately until her eyes landed on a specific object. 'My sword!'
The blade she sought stood out from the other weapons; it was silver with a distinct green trim along the edge.
Just as she spotted it,
Roar!
Rex was already upon her, his jaws snapping toward her.
With a nimble roll, Rosie evaded the strike, and Rex collided with the wall behind her.
Her combat instincts took over.
She immediately launched a spell to hinder him, swinging her arm in a wide arc. "Basic Magic, Wind Cutter!"
Whoosh!
A blade of compressed air flew toward Rex.
Rex’s yellow eyes burned with fury. He let out an angry roar and slashed at the incoming projectile with his claws, attempting to deflect it.
The Wind Cutter resisted for a moment before being shredded in two.
While Rex was occupied, Rosie managed to seize her sword. She repeated the motion, this time channeling it through the blade. "Basic Magic! Wind Cutter!"
Whoosh!
This version was significantly more powerful than the first.
Rex struggled to parry the reinforced Wind Cutter, giving Rosie the opening she needed to close the distance.
As Rex fought against the wind pressure,
Rosie lunged forward and placed her hand against Rex’s midsection. Her eyes glowed green as she unleashed another Wind Gale at point-blank range.
BAM!
The explosive force hit Rex square in the stomach, sending him flying across the room and into the wall. He stumbled back to his feet, shaking his head to clear the cobwebs.
It didn't take long for Rex to lock onto Rosie again.
Rosie was already sprinting for the exit. 'Now is my chance!'
'My Wind Gale is barely an intermediate spell, yet it's my strongest move and he barely felt it. I can't win this; I have to get out!' Rosie thought, racing for the door.
But as she neared the exit, a cold draft brushed her cheek.
Rex had suddenly appeared right beside her, catching her off guard. He swung his arm, aiming a full-force claw strike at her.
'He’s too fast! I can't evade!' Rosie thought, her eyes wide with shock.
Realizing she couldn't dodge, she manifested a green protective aura around her body and crossed her arms to take the hit. 'He's not an Awakened; even in this form, I should be able to blo—'
Her train of thought shattered under the sheer power of the impact.
Rosie had assumed that since Rex wasn't an Awakened, his strength would be manageable compared to a true Werewolf.
But the raw force behind the blow horrified her; it was far beyond her capacity to withstand!
Slash!
"Arghh!" Rosie cried out.
Rex’s claws tore deep into her arms. The impact was so violent that she was hurled into the wall near the window before collapsing to the floor.
Blood trickled from her lip.
Her arms were mangled from the block, showing four deep lacerations.
Rosie looked up through a haze of pain at Rex’s glowing eyes. 'He's too powerful!' she realized, her vision blurring as she searched for a solution.
Suddenly, she noticed the curtains hanging beside her.
It was a long shot, but Rosie had no other options left. 'Please, let this work...' she prayed.
With her remaining strength, Rosie grabbed the curtain and yanked it shut, closing off the window.
Immediately, the room was plunged into total darkness, cutting off every ray of moonlight.
'If the moonlight is what fuels him, maybe this will stop it,' she hoped.
Rosie collapsed, her mana drained and her body failing her.
Thud... Thud... Thud...
She heard heavy footsteps drawing near but could barely lift her head. The earlier collision with the wall had caused serious internal damage.
Struggling to focus, Rosie looked up to see those yellow eyes staring down at her.
Rex’s massive form loomed over her. Though her vision was dark, she could sense him preparing for the killing blow.
But then, 'Eh?'
Rex’s yellow eyes widened as a flicker of his true self halted his hand.
Whether due to the loss of moonlight or sheer willpower, Rex regained a fragment of his mind. He looked down at the blood-covered Rosie in horror. 'What have I done?!' he thought, reeling in shock.
Even with his mind returning, the primal bloodlust continued to surge.
It was like a killer suddenly feeling a spark of remorse for his victim; that was the conflict Rex faced.
His monstrous side screamed to finish her,
But before the beast could take over again, Rex forged his resolve and hurled himself through the window to escape before he could do more harm.
The guilt of what he had done to Rosie weighed heavily on him.
With his enhanced strength, the window shattered into pieces as Rex leaped out.
Fortunately, Rosie’s mansion sat on the edge of Ratmawati City, bordering the Emham forest.
Without a second thought, Rex dove into the trees.
His only goal was to get away from civilization. Hurting Rosie was enough to crush his spirit; he couldn't risk slaughtering innocent people in the city.
Rex’s silhouette vanished into the depths of the forest.
Shortly after he entered the woods, a powerful howl echoed through the Emham forest.
Aooouuuuuuuuuu!
-------
On the far side of the Emham Forest,
Aoooouuuuuu!!
A massive, red-skinned beast with a single horn on its brow was feasting on a deer carcass. It paused, lifting its head as the howl reached its ears.
This creature was significantly larger than Rex.
Standing on two legs with a grotesque face, it had two tusks protruding from its lower jaw and gripped a tree trunk like a massive club.
As it pinpointed the source of the howl, the beast's eyes turned a deep, bloodshot red.
The monster cast the deer aside and glared toward the sound before letting out a furious roar and charging toward the source of the howl.
