The Invincible Full-Moon System Chapter 4 Daily Quest

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN HALF-BLOOD!" Rex bellowed, his voice thick with irritation.
Even though the term Half-blood remained ambiguous, Rex understood it meant his lineage was tainted—a hybrid of sorts, no longer a pure human.
Considering the atrocities the Supernatural had inflicted upon mankind and his own parents, Rex harbored a deep-seated loathing for them.
Naturally, the information in the race category sparked nothing but resentment within him.
He attempted to mentally alter his race but met with total failure; the Race section remained unchanged. Instead, it began to shimmer with a mocking silver radiance, as if the system itself was laughing at him.
Feeling ridiculed by this strange game made his blood boil with rage.
However, he was forced to suppress his anger and compose himself when a knock sounded at the door. Following the signal, a middle-aged woman stepped into the infirmary.
She possessed long, chestnut hair.
Based on her black-rimmed spectacles and the disciplined, scholarly aura she projected, Rex recognized her immediately.
This was Mrs. Greene, his guardian.
A wave of relief washed over Rex as he gazed at her. 'I feared I would never see mom again, but somehow, I actually made it out of that disaster alive,' he reflected.
Discovering that Rex was conscious, Mrs. Greene froze where she stood.
Once the reality set in—that Rex had truly awakened from his coma—she couldn't restrain herself. She rushed toward him and pulled him into a desperate embrace.
"My sweet boy, I thought I will lose you," she sobbed, her voice breaking.
Tears streamed down her face like a pure mountain spring as she held him close. "I can't sleep for weeks knowing that you're on your first mission, but when I heard the news about you..."
"You're already in the hospital hanging onto your life!"
Mrs. Greene’s weeping continued, her eyes radiating a sorrow so profound it sent a sharp pang through Rex’s heart.
Rex returned the embrace, holding her tightly.
To Rex, the warmth Mrs. Greene provided was beyond compare. In the wake of his biological parents' deaths, she had been the only light in his dark world.
After she had exhausted her initial burst of emotion,
Mrs. Greene began a frantic physical inspection to see if he was injured. To her immense relief, she found nothing; his wounds had miraculously vanished, leaving her to sigh in comfort.
"I'm back mom," Rex whispered, fighting back his own tears.
A radiant smile broke across Mrs. Greene’s face upon hearing those words, and Rex matched her expression as they fell into a warm, familial rhythm.
It felt like an eternity since they had seen one another.
Due to the military's rigorous regulations, Rex had only been able to send occasional correspondence. His last letter had been sent right before he departed for his maiden mission.
As they spoke,
The sheer impossibility of his survival began to weigh on him. Rex’s mind drifted away from the conversation. 'Who was it that rescued me? Was it a God? Or perhaps a Devil?'
Recalling his final moments in the Ghouls' Den,
Rex remembered pleading with both divine and infernal powers. Unsure which entity had answered his call, he decided he would eventually interrogate this game system for the truth.
After a moment, Mrs. Greene remarked, "Did you know that you're famous now?"
"During the ceremony, I was presented with two medals in your honor along with a significant sum of money. They claimed it was a token of appreciation for your courage from the United World Organizations, for risking everything during the mission."
"How could they! Hmph!"
Despite her complaints regarding the 'Heroes of Dwight City' event, her smile betrayed the pride and joy she felt having been a part of it.
It was typical of her; Mrs. Greene came from humble beginnings.
Because her lineage lacked an Awakened, her family had always struggled for status and wealth. Thus, attending a prestigious event like the Heroes of Dwight City ceremony was a monumental occasion for her.
Whenever Rex received military compensation,
She would inquire about the amount and meticulously track the pay dates. She had even abandoned her late husband for a man with better financial prospects.
Her current spouse belonged to the middle class, yet her own sensibilities remained rooted in her lower-class upbringing.
Despite these flaws, Rex loved her unconditionally. To him, she was the most vital person left in his life.
Eventually, Mrs. Greene had to depart to handle some errands.
Before shutting the door, she poked her head back inside. "Oh, I forgot to mention. You'll be enrolling in university once you are discharged. The government has established a new institution specifically for Awakened and Military personnel; you will attend that university," she explained while checking an email on her phone.
She added, "They want you to recuperate at the university while they help to nurture you; it's a reward for your deeds in the military. Oh, I almost forgot I brought your phone with me."
She handed Rex the device and gave a final wave. "I'm going now, bye! I'll come back tonight," she said before exiting.
Rex sat there, stunned by her words.
'Me? Go to a university? For some reason, I'm actually looking forward to it,' he mused with a grin.
Like any youth his age, Rex immediately checked his phone. Even during military training, he would secretly use it whenever possible.
He scrolled through his messages and found three new alerts.
One came from Laura Frostbrand, his childhood friend; another from his platoon leader; and the final one from Edward.
He started with Laura’s message.
The text was brief and blunt: "I heard you survived, that's good."
The coldness of the message left Rex feeling hollow. He had harbored feelings for Laura since they were children.
She had been his pillar of support after his parents died.
However, as Laura matured, she became increasingly distant. To this day, Rex didn't understand why she had pushed him away.
Their bond had frayed over the years.
Rex had hoped she might visit him in person, but he was met with the harsh reality of a single, detached text after his brush with death.
Sighing, Rex moved on to the message from his platoon leader.
True to his character, the leader expressed immense pride in Rex for successfully navigating such a treacherous first mission.
'He's one of the kinder ones, unlike the others,' Rex thought, smiling slightly.
The final message from Edward mentioned a planned visit, but since it was five days old, Edward had likely already stopped by while Rex was still unconscious.
Having finished his messages,
Rex summoned the system by thinking the word 'Notification'. Instantly, the familiar blue hologram flickered into existence.
He searched for a help or tutorial function, but the screen only displayed: <Notification>, <Stat>, <Skill>, <Inventory>, and <Shop>.
Just as he was about to dismiss the interface in frustration, a new window popped up.
<Welcome Host, you have gained the Invincible Full-Moon System>
Rex remained convinced this was some high-tech new game, but he decided to test it by asking the questions burning in his mind.
'So, are you the one who saved me?' he inquired internally.
<Yes>
Encouraged, Rex pressed further. 'If that is so, are you the God? or the Devil?'
<I'm not the God or the Devil>
Rex narrowed his eyes skeptically. The reply was cryptic. 'Hmm... that's exactly what a God or Devil would claim. So, what is your purpose?'
<My purpose is to make you stronger, you will become invincible under the full-moon>
'That definitely sounds like something a Devil would say,' Rex thought.
Half-joking, he decided to see if there was a catch, as if negotiating with a demon. 'In that case, what do I have to pay for being invincible under the full moon?'
<Your humanity, your loved ones, and everything you have>
'Classic Devil,' Rex thought, letting out a small chuckle.
Before he could ask anything else, a notification appeared that looked different from the standard menu prompts.
<Daily Quest>
During the nighttime, bathe under the Lunar's blessing for three hours.
0/180 minutes
Quest Reward: 50 Exp, A good night's sleep
Quest Failure: Decrease Sanity by 20%
Rex read the quest and scoffed. 'The Lunar's blessing? You want me to sit under the moonlight for three hours? Not a chance,' he dismissed.
He decided to ignore the absurd requirement.
'What a joke. This game is ridiculous—who tells a player to just sit under the moon? Besides, this hospital lacks a roof deck. The only way to do it would be hanging my head out the window, and I'd look like an idiot doing that for hours.'
The more he dwelled on it, the more annoyed he became with the system.
Yet, curiosity lingered, especially since it appeared right after his near-death experience. He closed the Stat tab and opened the Skill menu.
<Skills>
<Night Sight (Passive - Low)>
<Creature of the Night (Passive - Mid)>
Rex instinctively reached out to tap the Night Sight skill, but his hand passed through the light. 'Stupid, I forgot it's not a physical screen,' he muttered, annoyed at his own lapse.
He focused his mind on the Night Sight icon instead.
<Night Sight>
A low-level skill that allows the host to see better at night - Upgradeable
'Simple enough,' Rex noted. He then moved to the Creature of the Night skill, which was a total mystery.
<Creature of the Night>
A middle-level skill that increases the host stats by 50% at night, and 100% during Full-Moon - Upgradable
After reading the details,
He mused, 'This is more intriguing. So I'm supposed to be more powerful at night? It sounds far too good to be true.' He shook his head, a cynical smirk playing on his lips.
His doubts about this "system" only grew.
Rex chose to shut down the interface and try to sleep. Even though his physical wounds were gone, the mental exhaustion from the mission still weighed heavily on him.
As he closed his eyes, he couldn't stop thinking about how nonsensical it all was.
'As if I will believe all this nonsense, stronger at night? That's some Supernatural power,' Rex grumbled while getting comfortable.
Sinking into the soft bedding, he began to relax.
'These pillows are incredibly soft. The military ones were always so stiff and foul-smelling,' Rex thought as his eyes grew heavy and he finally drifted off.
Rex had no way of knowing that ignoring the system's warnings would be a mistake he would soon regret.
