The Invincible Full-Moon System Chapter 2007: Peak of Energy
Previously on The Invincible Full-Moon System...
Rex had been completely exposed from the moment he stepped into the God Realm.
His intuition, reflexes, and the Absolute Anger Effect helped him survive and thrive, but there were a few instances where he almost got into trouble because of his inability to sense immortal energy. A weakness that kept him on guard throughout his travels.
It was the sole reason he kept using the System to scan his surroundings at all times.
Keeping constant guard against the invisible.
Rex wasn’t afraid of being assassinated—as he was almost invulnerable with the Absolute Anger Effect guarding him at all times, but that wasn’t the case for Davina and Lilliana. Both had no such protection, and they also couldn’t sense immortal energy.
So, he needed to always be alert.
Gaining the Pure God Sense skill was a grace from Lady Luck.
It was the skill he needed the most, and he was expecting to instantly be able to sense immortal energy.
But he was wrong.
He needed to increase his mastery over the Pure God Sense skill first to really elevate his senses to the point of making sense of immortal energy that lay hidden within a deeper, distorted layer of reality. One that no mortal senses could touch or even grasp.
Achieving the required mastery extremely difficult.
Even the best item he could afford from the System could only increase his speed by two percent.
It was the first skill he had that required him to really work to use it despite being a gift from the System.
Frustration coiled tighter in his chest. He had gathered the divinity points the System recommended. He was now even training under the Warden’s power to master the skill. And despite all of that, immortal energy remained right beyond his reach.
A shimmer at the edge of perception that he could grasp, but would slip even at the smallest bump.
Rex needed to remain completely still to see through that distorted home of immortal energy.
And he thought that he needed more time to train.
Despite the skewed time that helped him train his mastery over the skill for quite some time, Rex still somehow needed to continue training his senses to perceive this deeper—distorted layer of reality with natural ease.
And with time running out, his frustration only grew.
Only piled up inside him—a clog in the flow of his patience.
But he was wrong.
It wasn’t that his senses hadn’t reached the optimal, elevated state to grasp immortal energy without the need to seize Rex’s full attention. But his senses were simply not used to grasping immortal energy. Not attuned enough to keep a lock on it.
Just like a new werewolf experiencing its second full moon.
It could withstand the rage that was viciously drawn out by the moonlight, but only if it put its full focus on enduring this rage. Yet, to truly adapt to the full moon—enduring it in stillness wasn’t the answer. It needed to move, to keep the body in motion while clawing to hold the fury at bay.
Rex was about to go back to train again.
Be in stillness again, hoping that his remaining time would be enough to increase his mastery again.
Since he had already burned thirty hours inside the Temporal Labyrinth, barely half that remained before he had to leave for the Great Pale Court and meet with the Goddess of the Greater Moon. But if he did this, then he would be making a mistake.
He would only be wasting his time.
It wouldn’t help him in mastering the Pure God Sense skill.
And seems like someone was watching and decided to give him a hand.
Even though his presence was no longer within the Temporal Labyrinth, it was still his realm.
So, the Warden could check in on what was happening inside and decided to give Rex a hand.
Laughter still echoed across the void when Rex let the transformation rip through him in full. His bones lengthened. His muscles swelled. Ink-black fur devoured his skin from head to toe, a living darkness— that drank the green light of the labyrinth.
His fingernails curved into claws, his teeth into fangs, and horns pushed through his skull.
Curving back and grand.
He put out his tongue—long, wet, and feral while his crimson eyes flared with a maddening light.
Everything in his vision sharpened as his senses flared to the limit.
Rex could feel it all around him better. Immortal energy. Still slippery, still elusive, like gripping an eel with wet hands. Even when careful—the eel would slip from his hands. But his grip was rougher now. His senses had grown calluses.
Each failure, each near-miss, each appearance strained against the void had sanded his perception.
Sharpened it into something coarser. Something that could finally hold on.
Giving no time for him to rest, twenty spheres of condensed power of time materialized around the void and platform. They blinked into existence out of nothing in a perfect vortex of energy. Each one swelled, and then fired.
Rex moved—where his new elevated senses could grasp the spheres, he saw them clear as comets.
And where they faltered, intuition lunged into the gap.
His claws elongated further, becoming even more deadly, and he parried five spheres in a blur, battling them away in rapid succession. And then, as if he had eyes on the back of his head, he parried more that came straight at him with eerie silence.
Each time his claws met the spheres, they were slapped away.
Parried before they exploded.
Rex launched himself skyward when he didn’t have the time to turn and parry the spheres aiming at his back, somersaulting as those spheres detonated beneath him. Mid-air, three more came at once. He made no wasted movement to slap one, kicked another spinning into the void, and twisted his body past the third.
He landed.
But one sphere, faster than the rest, slammed into his back before he could react and detonated.
Boom—!
Rex didn’t even have the time to grit his teeth as time around him was frozen, and the colour reduced to a mosaic of grey and silver. Five inches around his body turned grey, the colour drained, and even the air was suspended.
He was a statue in a world of ash.
Boom—!
Boom—!
More spheres slammed into him and detonated, stretching the frozen area to ten inches and then fifteen inches. Before he could even do anything, the frozen area had already stretched to more than a yard. He was now completely surrounded by frozen areas.
And like the trap he was trapped in earlier, he couldn’t break free no matter how hard he tried.
Even his senses darkened quicker than the trap.
Rex would be trapped and needed help to break free if it were yesterday, but he has a solution now.
Despite time being frozen, immortal energy still flowed normally. And through the frozen grey, he began to see it spreading throughout the frozen area. Clusters of immortal energy, white threads knotted tight, sustaining the time freeze like anchors driven into reality.
As long as he disturbed even one cluster of immortal energy strands, he could break the time freeze.
But the problem with this was that he couldn’t move at all.
Not even his diverse energy could move through the frozen time. Not even his dependable Laws.
It was only then that he recalled something.
Considering that he was now an Awakened Demigod with more than ten thousand divinity points—his body should also be able to produce or at least control immortal energy. His hiccup in growth was tied to his inability to sense immortal energy.
Now that he could, he decided to try.
Swish—!
Rex cleared his mind of any thoughts and solely focused his mind on his insides.
He turned his elevated senses inward, searching for any trace of immortal energy within him. Deeper— and deeper he pushed, past the familiar and the known, until he finally found it. Something buried deep inside him that he had never felt before.
Never even known it was there.
Rex reached for it with his senses, and though shy, the immortal energy answered him.
And before he knew it, a blood-red sparkling energy that moved as if it was alive seeped from his claws and coated them like liquid before settling into a thin, glistening film. Unlike any energy that Rex had wielded before, this crimson sheen didn’t stop at coating the surface.
No—it seeped into his claws like a skill and then turned the sharp curve sparkling red.
Inside, Rex was laughing.
He had waited so long for this—ached for the moment his senses would finally grasp immortal energy. And when it came, the next step followed as naturally as breathing. The immortal energy answered him, and it was exhilarating.
Slowly, he pushed it outward from his claws, raw and gleaming, as if he’d been doing it all his life.
Red hues began to crawl through the frozen grey, reaching towards the nearest cluster to it.
Rex drove it into the cluster, invading the cluster of energy that anchored the time freeze area, and then put in even more. Then, the cluster cracked. A devastating smile curled his lips as the time freeze weakened slightly, and with a thunderous howl, he shattered the grip on him and broke free.
ROAR—!
"I thought you were not totally on board with helping me, old man!" He licked his lips. "So, what is this?!"
He managed to crush one cluster, and it resumed five inches from him.
In order to escape this grey world, he had to destroy every cluster in one direction until he reached the very end. But Rex had already shattered one, so the rest became easier. He drove his sparkling reddish claws into it and flooded it with immortal energy until it shattered from within.
Splash—!
Another five inches were opened.
Rex plunged his claws into the next one, and then shattered it.
He continued doing so until the very last one, and he blasted forward to get away.
More spheres were already coming. His crimson eyes snapped toward them—and then his senses shuddered. Not faltered. Deepened. In slow motion, he watched the white energy in the deeper layer of reality bleed through the veil, seeping into his claws, glistening along their edges like liquid moonlight.
He didn’t waste time thinking.
He immediately struck.
As soon as his claws made contact with the sphere, something strange happened.
Rex was thinking of parrying it like earlier, but the sphere wasn’t deflected. It shattered. Burst apart into a cloud of dissolving immortal energy and faded into nothing. He paused for a good moment and then stared at his sparkling claws.
His chest heaved up and down, and his tongue still lolled from his fanged mouth.
Just earlier, the Temporal Labyrinth had been suffocating, but it wasn’t anymore.
Now, he had a semblance of control over himself due to immortal energy.
In the next fleeting moment, Rex shattered the remaining spheres. More formed in the distance, but he didn’t wait for them to form and immediately struck. Twenty of them burst into immortal energy before they could even form.
Rex landed hard against the platform, revelling in the new sensation.
A sensation of controlling energy that was used by those at the very peak of power.
Just then, the surrounding void churned like countless whirlpools in the middle of the ocean. A hundred spheres manifested in an instant, surrounding him like a dome from all directions. It was a test. Perhaps the last test.
And without a signal, the spheres shot straight at Rex.
Rex smirked inwardly and crossed his arms, tapping into the immortal energy in his claws.
It grew heavier and heavier, pulsating visibly on the claws.
Then, he opened his arms in a wide arc as the immortal energy detonated in a powerful shockwave.
And all spheres dissolved into nothing.
Kaboom—!
