High Lord Rashal and his retinue arrived last, facing public humiliation as they were deliberately delayed and forced to use a side entrance. Rex's calm demeanor prevented further escalation with the guards, though the disrespect continued. Inside, Rashal was isolated at a central table. Rex experienced a sudden, intense wave of nausea and was drawn towards the second floor, where he sensed a powerful presence and his System activated.

High Lord Ursa, the banquet, the humiliation, and the incoming risky plan.

At this moment, the sensations that were caused by those things disappeared suddenly from him.

Even the confused voices calling his name were fading away, muffled by the shrill ringing that entirely filled his ears. Rex felt something reaching for him. Not a voice. A small but demanding pull that could not be ignored.

A part of him that he didn’t know existed was answering this pull.

No, he knew this part of him.

But it was so new that his body and mind still hadn’t registered it as his.

And with every step he took to ascend the staircase, this sensation only grew and grew.

It took a moment for Rex to recognize this new sensation. It took him a moment to recognize its design. This was caused by a part of his faction that he was entrusted with without his consent. One that elevated him to a realm unknown.

Everything became clear once his crimson eyes bore witness to the figure leaning against the railing.

He was draped in a formal black suit and tie—accented with threads of gold and crimson. A gold, lavish cloak lined with black hung from his shoulder, sweeping down one side of his body. But what made this figure truly stand out was his skin.

Ink-black and impossibly smooth, as if his body had been carved from polished coal.

As soon as his eyes landed on this figure, his blood boiled.

And the part of him that contained the indomitable power from the Anger Stratum churned.

No doubt about it,

Just the immaculate blue aura, one that only another Scion could see, made it clear who he was.

Another Scion.

It was easy to spot since he could feel the aura, and he also had seen this aura from Kei Xun.

<Notice: the user encountered another Scion of the Vertex from the Sadness Stratum!>

<Scanning the position...>

<Position: 151st Stair>

As if to confirm what was in his mind, these notifications appeared—and stated that he was now facing another Scion from the Sadness Stratum. Someone who was also acknowledged to have the potential to achieve invincibility.

However, to his surprise, there was an uninvited anger building inside his chest.

Like a part of him was furious at this figure.

And to his surprise, he felt a burning sensation across his skin before another notification appeared.

<Notice: Uncrowned Matron of Ire, a Scion of Vertex from the Anger Stratum, is trying to communicate with the user! Does the user want to allow it?>

Rex read the notification, and his brows furrowed at the end.

It was surprising that another Scion of the Vertex of the same stratum was contacting him, and he didn’t know the reason why, but he could already make a guess. Since he was now standing in front of another Scion from the Sadness Stratum, this must be about him.

Rex deliberated for a few seconds and finally decided to allow this communication.

He could feel another presence inside his mind.

A presence that was so hot that it felt like his brain was melting.

’Kill him.’

Rex’s breath was caught in his throat at the first two words that rang inside his mind, the first two words that the Uncrowned Matron of Ire said to him. The sensation he felt earlier, the one that made him zone out, was coming from her.

A deep, bottomless fury that she felt towards this figure across from him.

’Tear him limb from limb. And burn his body in fire.’

Despite the strange inclination to say yes to her request, Rex stopped himself from agreeing.

He was quite sure that the anger from her was influencing his mind right now.

And any decision made with emotions has a higher chance of being a bad decision. One that he didn’t need right now.

’New Scion, do as I say, and I’ll help you in your next step to invincibility. Ignatius is not an easy foe.’

’You knew my title. Fascinating. I’ll be waiting for your answer then.’

Rex smirked inwardly as his eyes flashed at the figure leaning against the railing.

As if sensing the killing in his mind, the figure lifted his head and turned toward the staircase, revealing eyes that gleamed like polished rubies. No, they contained rubies inside. He tilted his head, feeling a bit confused as to why Rex was looking at him.

"Do I know you?" His voice was calm. "Perhaps you’re someone I’ve killed before?"

Rex approached with steady steps, "If I’m someone you’ve killed before, then would I be standing here in front of you without fear? I am certain that no one—who managed to survive—would return to be killed again."

"It happened several times before," the figure sighed gloomily—and looked down at the ballroom again. "Some people can’t accept reality. Vengeance is depressing, and yet some choose it voluntarily. I don’t really understand why people allow themselves to live on that torturous path."

"Maybe some people don’t have any choice but to fight back."

"The only reason they have no choice is that they are looking through a rageful lens. Then again, it is not like anything is better even if they can see properly. In fact, it is harder for those who can see the real world."

"Perhaps." Rex extended his hand. "My name is Rex."

"Diamantona," the figure, Diamantona, replied. "I don’t allow people to shorten my name, so don’t."

"Don’t worry, I won’t. Do you work with High Lord Ursa? I’ve never seen you before."

"In a small capacity, yes. Just to ease the agonizing boredom. What about you?"

"I work with High Lord Rashal."

Rex glanced at Diamantona, inspecting his face for a brief second, and then looked forward again.

He found a mild surprise on Diamantona’s face, and that’s what he was searching for.

"Do you know High Lord Rashal?"

"Most of the people here knew High Lord Rashal and his... struggles. It must be stressful for you too."

"Yes, it’s stressful. I needed to scour the Cavity to find the person responsible for the damages."

Diamantona’s ruby eyes widened even more, but he quickly recovered.

Not wanting to give out anything.

"Did you find the person?"

"No... The person responsible leaves no trace at all. Whoever it was must be strong. And I’m certain the person had gone through a lot to achieve such a level of power. It would be interesting to talk to whoever it was at least once."

Rex didn’t need to glance at Diamantona.

He could see out of his periphery how Diamantona turned his face away while he wasn’t looking.

Even without looking, Rex could already tell that he was smiling or feeling emotional.

And Rex smirked in return, managing to confirm that Diamantona was the person responsible.

’I’ll be waiting for the good news.’

<Berserk Quest has been initiated!>

"Seems the banquet is about to begin. I should head downstairs." Rex offered a nod as he turned toward the staircase. "It was a pleasure speaking with you, Diamantona." He took a few steps with thoughts churning in his mind—then stopped right by the staircase. "I haven’t been truthful with you."

He turned around. "You see, I know who you are."

"Hmm?" Diamantona’s eyes flickered as his brows dipped into a frown. "You knew me?"

"Yes. I know you’re the one who attacked the Cavity for High Lord Ursa.

"That’s a big accusation, Sir Rex. I don’t think you have any proof to back up your claim."

Rex’s lips curled higher into a smirk as he didn’t care about the denial.

He had another one that Diamantona couldn’t deny.

"And I also know you’re a Scion of the Vertex from the Sadness Stratum."

"...?!"

Diamantona’s eyes flew wide open when he heard the words that came out of Rex’s mouth, as no one should’ve known about that. No one could have. Everyone who knew that he was a Scion was four feet deep underground.

People he was close to from his home world are dead.

So, this can only mean one thing.

"You’re a Scion of the Vertex, too...?" Diamantona asked as realization dawned upon him.

"Yes," Rex focused on his new organ—and channeled the Anger Stratum’s presence out. "I’m from the Anger Stratum. Seems like you really did not realize that I’m a Scion. Then you must really understand the situation you were in.

"You see," He smiled dangerously. "If I wanted to, I could’ve killed you the moment I was in range. Or if I wanted to be safe, I could’ve called my people to trap you and kill you on the spot. Convincing them to attack you should be easy since you’re the one who created this chaos—and High Lord Ursa will do nothing, or he’ll be confessing that he was the one who attacked the Cavity."

Rex took a few steps forward.

His steps were heavy and slow, increasing the tension in the air to the point of choking Diamantona.

And it seemed to be working from how Diamantona swallowed harshly.

"But where’s the fun in that?" Rex asked with a devious smirk and tilted his head. "I want you to know. I want you to know that I’m a Scion of the Vertex, and I’m coming for you. That way, killing you would be more... pleasurable. Your face in front of death would be my reward."

It’s going to be chaos soon enough, so he decided to confront Diamantona.

High Lord Rashal had told him that there was no need to find out about the one responsible for ransacking the Cavity, as that’s a matter of vengeance, and vengeance could wait. But Rex decided to find out more about it anyway.

Now that the person was right in front of him and he also got a quest to kill Diamantona, there’s no reason for him to hold back.

Rex decided to get it over with in one fell swoop.

Both Dimantona and High Lord Ursa would fall together, and that’s going to be a sight to behold.

A deep sigh slipped out of Diamantona’s mouth.

Despite the threat of death that came from Rex, he still found the situation to be depressing.

Not dangerous, but depressing.

"You Scions from the Anger Stratum are really something." He shook his head and then massaged his temples. "I am bored. I don’t like fighting. I already told all of you this, and I have killed some of you reluctantly already. Go ahead and skip over my stair—I don’t care."

"Killed some of us already?" Rex’s smirk grew even wider. "Good, then killing you is going to be worth it."

"I know most of the Scions from the Anger Stratum have no family, but there must still be someone you care about. Remember that person," Diamantona said, and looked down at the ballroom again. "It would be saddening for that person to learn of your death."

"I’m not worried about that at all," Rex cackled, heating up with anger. "Not when you are the one who’s going to die."

"When the time comes, Sir Rex. When the time comes." He waved his hand dismissively.

"Oh, don’t worry about that. The time for us to clash may arrive sooner than you think." Rex turned and began descending the staircase, his voice trailing behind him. "If there’s someone precious to you—I’d reach out to them now. You may not have another chance soon."
