Demigod Adolf confronts a mortal, unaware that the "mortal" is actually the Demigod Rex in disguise. Rex easily overpowers and brutally hunts down Demigod Adolf, revealing that Adolf had murdered children and that Rex does not tolerate such cruelty. Rex apprehends Adolf, intending to take information from his mind.

Rex knew without a shadow of a doubt that this was going to happen.

People in the God Realm would most certainly look down on the people in low-tier realms, such as the Grey Realm. In most cases, a Demigod would basically be invincible inside a low-tier realm. And with how many times Demigods like Demigod Adolf come and go through low-tier realms, this sensation of absolute invincibility would stick in their minds.

So, the next time they entered a low-tier realm, they wouldn’t be as careful.

And that mindset would produce weaknesses.

One that Rex utilized was the fact that Demigod Adolf didn’t know how George looked.

Back when he met with the emperor, he gained the information of where his brother, George, would be.

George and the rebellion forces didn’t know that the empire knew about what they were planning to do, and was waiting for them to come. Rex didn’t care about the details, but he gained the exact location of George because of that.

Once he arrived, he simply took George’s identity for a moment.

Patient like a predator waiting for the prey to arrive in the killing zone.

Initially, his plan had been simple; drop a few hints that he needed more convincing, let Demigod Adolf escort him straight—into the heart of the enemy forces. But Demigod Adolf’s arrogance got in the way. Instead of taking the bait, he chose violence.

No other choice but to take him down, since the situation had reached that point.

But it doesn’t matter.

Rex stared at the phantom wolf before him that was the size of a bull.

Its black fur was laced with a tinge of gold, and two glowing amber eyes burned with a power that was beyond mortal comprehension. This was what remained of Demigod Adolf; transformed into a spectral wolf that contained the power of the Banished Dark Moon King Mark.

Rex’s Phantom Pack skill claimed him.

Since he had practiced this skill before departing for the Grey Realm, he knew what he was doing.

"It experienced a loss of power." Rex scanned the spectral wolf’s stats and saw that it was now only as strong as a three-star Demigod. A bit weaker than Demigod Adolf, who was at the peak of the Demigod divinity. "But still, more than enough to help. If I have a hundred more of this, the enemy forces would be in big trouble."

Rex stretched his hand, wanting to extract the memories inside of his new spectral wolf.

He needed to find where the rest of the enemy forces were.

Growl؅—!

A growl escaped the spectral wolf’s mouth as it tried to avoid Rex’s hand.

Despite having been called back to life, this spectral wolf’s spirit is still that of Demigod Adolf—and it still retained the loyalty he had towards the enemy forces. Towards High Lord Ursa. But this only served to make Rex smile.

His eyes glowed crimson, and almost instantly, the Law of Inevitability locked it in place.

Rex rested his hand on its head and extracted the memories it had.

Considering that Demigod Adolf was the one sent to cause mayhem in the biggest and strongest empire of the realm—Rex was quite hopeful about what to find in his memories. All he needed was a direction or a hint of it, and the rest would fall into place easily.

But instead of finding what he wanted, he saw a bright white light.

It made his forehead crease in confusion.

He pushed deeper into the memories, reaching past the blinding brightness for anything; anything at all. But there was only more light, and it was growing blinding. He withdrew his hand with a sharp frown and turned his gaze to the spectral wolf, "System, what exactly did I see?"

<Scanning...>

<Notice: A deeply ingrained energy was branded inside the spectral wolf’s mind.>

"Energy?" Rex clicked his tongue in displeasure. "Someone placed a mental block on him?"

Since he had acquired the Phantom Pack skill, he was quite confident in his ability to do this important assignment High Lord Rashal had entrusted to him. But he had made one fatal error—he had forgotten he wasn’t dealing with powerful mortals anymore.

He was going against Demigods.

Probing the mind for memories should not be something new for them.

And naturally, they already placed countermeasures on their important soldiers.

"Is there a way to override it?"

<Negative; the energy is attached directly to the soul. Any attempt to tamper with it would kill the soul.>

Rex clicked his tongue in displeasure.

Seems like finding the base of the enemy forces within the Grey Realm would be harder than he thought it would be. And with Demigod Adolf being a dead end—he now needed to find another way to locate the base, which he doesn’t know how to at the moment.

"Shit," Rex massaged his forehead. "Should I try capturing one first?"

All he could think of right now was capturing one and making a thorough interrogation.

But he doesn’t think that it’d work.

Even if he somehow managed to hurt the captured enemy badly enough to extract the location of their base, there would likely be another failsafe waiting to silence them. A hidden countermeasure that was similar to the one blocking their memories right now.

Something designed to kill them the moment they tried to speak.

Now, he was completely at a loss.

Rex scanned the spectral wolf again and focused on one section.

<Divinity Points: 3,000>

"He has three thousand Divinity Points, too?" Rex’s teeth ground together; sheer frustration climbing into his throat. His hand lashed out, backhanding the spectral wolf with enough force to launch it away, skidding nearly a mile across the barren earth. "Such a shame. I should’ve anticipated this. Damn it!"

Now that he has already used the Phantom Pack skill, he can’t use the Divine Tainting skill.

He can’t absorb the Divinity Points anymore, and that was such a shame.

It was especially so when the Sudden Quest only demanded Rex to gather ten thousand—and Demigod Adolf has about three thousand. That’s more than a quarter of the Divinity Points needed, but then again, there’s nothing he could do right now.

Rex called the spectral wolf back, storing it into the Banished Dark Moon King Mark.

And then, he made his way back to the main tent.

Upon arriving back at the rebellion camp, the soldiers saw him and immediately drew their weapons.

All of them barred his way.

Rex was in no mood to entertain them. With nothing more than the Almighty Bearing skill, he pressed them all to the ground without a shred of mercy. Their screams rose in unison as the aura bore down on them as though a mountain had settled across their backs and was steadily crushing the breath and bones from their bodies.

But their screams ignited no good reactions from Rex.

Instead, he used the Law of Misdirection to disperse their voices, silencing the entire area.

A few seconds later, Rex entered the main tent.

Nothing changed inside; it remained exactly the same as he left it earlier.

Just that now, George was on his knees right beside the bed.

George was a brown-skinned middle-aged man with a battle-hardened body and a full beard. He was kept at bay underneath the bed, covered by an item to hide his aura from Demigdo Adolf, while Rex assumed his identity earlier.

Now, his hands were tied by a magical rope.

One that Rex purchased for cheap in the Shop, and had given to the women in advance.

"Are you someone sent by my broth—"

Swish—!

Before George could finish his sentence, he bent forward and vomited a mouthful of blood.

Something invisible struck his internal organs and inflicted pain beyond measure.

Both women screamed and clutched each other in the corner of the bed like each other is the only thing they have, pressed against the tent wall like frightened animals. They had never seen George suppressed so easily—never imagined it possible. H

He was one of the strongest on the entire continent. This should have been impossible.

However, the two knew now that Rex isn’t from this realm.

He’s not even a mortal.

"I talk, and you listen," Rex said with an ice-cold voice. He settled onto the edge of the bed lightly, and faced with a casual authority. One hand resting on his left thigh, the other elbow propped on his knee— chin cradled in his palm. "Say something before I let you, and I’ll kill you. Do you understand?"

It’s the truth.

Rex was doing this simply because he wanted to give George a chance.

Do anything that annoyed him, and that privilege would be gone.

"You and your brother will work together," Rex instructed, watching the surprise settle on George’s face as he straightened his back. "Both of you will inform your affiliations about the fact that Demigods are going to approach them—and offer mouth-watering propositions, and demand that they deny all of those propositions."

Seeing that George wanted to say something, Rex gestured for him to speak.

"First of all, working together with that bastard of a brother of mine is impossible. He kille—"

"I don’t care."

"As-As for the propositions, if it’s good, why refuse it?" He asked with a stutter, finding what Rex asked of them to be quite odd. If Demigods came to give them gifts, then there’s no reason for them to refuse the gifts. "What’s the reason?"

"Because I came from a faction that owned your realm, while those Demigods are not."

"How do I know what you’re saying is true?"

"You don’t. You’ll have to believe me. But I can tell you that those hostile Demigods aimed to wreak havoc in your realm. Do you think the goodies they are offering are free because they simply gave them to you? No. Nothing is ever truly free."

Being in politics for all his life, George knew that he couldn’t trust Rex at face value.

Stories can be twisted.

An alternative view might be that Rex’s faction isn’t the owner of this realm—and came to claim this realm, while the supposedly Demigods who are hostile are giving them weapons to defend themselves from this invading faction.

His face remained neutral, but for some reason, it seemed Rex knew what was in his mind.

Rex’s eyes shimmered as he decided to kill George.

No need to waste another word.

"B-Believe him."

Just then, one of the women spoke with a trembling voice.

She gathered what courage she had—and met George’s eyes. "I think you should believe him. That man earlier... He wanted you to ensure the emperor’s death. The moment you resisted—he turned to violence without a second thought. The Demigods who rule this realm wouldn’t behave that way."

Rex let out a short, contemptuous breath. "At least someone near you is capable of using their head."

"E-Even so... If we’re going against Demigods, what can we, mortals, even do to help?"

"Our number is few, so it’s hard for us to find their temporary base."

"Hard?" George’s brows dipped into a frown. "How can Demigods struggle to find their base?"

For him, this shouldn’t be possible.

If he has the power of a Demigod, he would simply sweep clean the entire territory.

Doing that shouldn’t be that hard for someone like Rex.

"What’s so hard to believe? You want us to sweep this entire realm in days?" Rex raised a brow.

"R-Realm...?"

"Haven’t you understood yet? The hostile Demigods aren’t here to topple your kingdom. Their target is the entire realm. Your whole world—everything you’ve ever known—hangs in the balance, not just the Grisian Empire. In a matter of days, the fate of this realm will be sealed."

"What...?"

Rex turned his head to the entrance, sensing something.

He stood up and headed out of the tent.

"Come outside. Let me show you something." He gestured with a casual wave—beckoning George and the women toward the tent’s entrance. A thin smile crossed his lips. "It seems the fun has already begun."
