The Invincible Full-Moon System Chapter 1910: Really Close Call
Previously on The Invincible Full-Moon System...
Kyran’s instincts alerted him to the impending danger before anyone else. He witnessed the Blood Moon fracture from the impact of the light beam, its crimson wolf offspring being reeled back into its domain. However, the palpable anger in the atmosphere remained unabated.
The ordeal was far from concluded.
His premonition proved entirely accurate. Instead of accepting defeat and departing peacefully, the feral crimson wolves intensified their ferocity, merging into a singular, monstrous entity for a final, desperate assault on Dargena City. This ensuing strike possessed a power that dwarfed all previous attacks, reaching the precipice of the tenth-rank realm.
Such devastating might was far beyond the empire’s capacity to withstand.
Kyran leaped, aiming to intercept the colossal crimson wolf and disrupt its arcane channeling. Unfortunately, his efforts were too late.
His claws slashed through empty air, a mere heartbeat too late. The colossal sphere of blood was already streaking across the sky, its trajectory locked onto Dargena City.
Swoosh—!The sphere’s passage carved a vivid crimson trail across the heavens, its immense energy so dense it appeared almost tangible, as if the very air had been seared. None of Dargena City’s defensive measures could impede or even lessen its destructive force.
Even the city’s ultimate safeguard, its barrier, fractured upon impact. It offered no significant delay.
It couldn’t even buy ten seconds.
Bam—!With a single, vicious swipe, the gargantuan crimson wolf hurled Kyran to the ground. "No!!"
Despite the numerous broken bones resulting from the brutal blow, Kyran compelled himself to rise and resumed his sprint towards the city. He dropped to all fours, moving like a wounded predator, covering the ground at an incredible speed through the forest. Yet, as the trees became a blur, he knew. He wouldn’t reach his destination in time. Not with the barrier on the brink of annihilation.
Crack—!A deafening crack signaled the barrier’s complete collapse. Kyran’s heart sank into his stomach. But at that precise instant, a torrent of flames met the sphere of blood. An inferno engulfed the sky above Dargena City, igniting widespread panic and unrest among its inhabitants.
Everyone recognized the source of that energy, Kyran included. It belonged to Ryze.
"Ryze?!" Kyran’s eyes widened in astonishment. He had never anticipated Ryze would make such a desperate, self-sacrificing move, throwing himself directly into the path of the blood sphere.
But what truly stunned Kyran was what happened next. As the flames and the Blood Moon’s power clashed, sending destructive shockwaves in all directions, the sphere ground to a halt. It encountered a force of equal magnitude and simply stopped, suspended in defiance of Ryze’s onslaught.
"How is that kid so powerful?!" he gasped, drawing a sharp breath. "That was a tenth-rank realm attack from a Godling! And he stopped it by himself?"
As of Kyran’s last knowledge, Ryze’s power didn’t even reach the ninth-rank realm. Even after fully integrating Zaddrass, a formidable Heavenly Dragon, he was still young and lacked guidance to master his bloodline. Or so Kyran believed; he seemed to be entirely alone.
Therefore, witnessing Ryze achieve this was an immense surprise.
’Is a Dragonman considered a Dragon? If so, then it makes sense.’
As the Second Breath descended upon the world, the surge in ambient energy primarily benefited the mutated fauna. Kyran theorized that Ryze, due to the potent bloodline coursing through him, was mistakenly identified by the world as a Dragonman or even a Dragon. This, he surmised, was the source of his astonishing raw strength. Regardless, this development was advantageous.
It bought Kyran precious additional time to reach the city.
Swoosh—!As he neared the forest's edge, Kyran heard a voice calling to him. A malicious voice.
It was unmistakably the Witch of Chaos.
’Charge straight to the big tree to your right.’
Kyran harbored no trust in the Witch of Chaos, especially after her past transgressions. However, time was of the essence, and hesitation was a luxury he could not afford. Like a wolf breaking into a high-speed pursuit, he executed a sharp pivot and bolted directly towards an unusually massive tree, its branches spreading wider than its height.
Upon impact, the tree remained intact. In fact, Kyran felt as though he hadn't collided with anything solid. Instead, it felt like crashing into a wall of ink. The world around him contorted, and before his senses could fully process the change, he found himself standing just outside the formidable walls of Dargena City. It was a form of spatial warping, a Hex perhaps, but its nature was irrelevant at that moment.
With a single bound, he reached the ramparts, fixing his gaze upon the soldiers stationed there.
"What are you all doing?! Activate the Kingdom of War formation—now!"
Every soldier had undergone rigorous training on the protocols for securing the city. The steps were deeply ingrained in their minds, making Kyran question why the Kingdom of War formation remained inactive. The absence of the turrets emerging from the walls was a clear indication that it was not yet operational.
"There's naught we can do, Lord Kyran," one of them confessed with helplessness. "We are unable to activate it..."
"What do you mean you cannot activate it?!"
"Look!"
The soldier pointed downwards, glancing over the rampart.
Within the gate, blood had already gathered in deep pools. It wasn't merely the gate but the entire capital city, submerged in a growing flood of crimson. Another impact struck between Ryze and the sphere of blood, causing the blood to surge higher, as if the city itself were a basin succumbing to the depths.
It had now reached the soldiers' shins.
The mere energy splashes radiating from the devastating sphere of blood were sufficient to transform stone and earth into blood.
"Mobilize every soldier to push back the blood and activate the formation!"
Without delay, Kyran departed after issuing the command.
He propelled himself from the ramparts, traversing rooftops with a swift, continuous rhythm as he made his way toward the castle. He also bellowed at the citizens to retreat indoors, as their homes were designed to offer protection during such dire circumstances.
Halfway there, he cast his gaze skyward, and a sight that tightened his chest met his eyes.
Ryze was being forced back.
His flames were transforming into a crimson hue as the sphere of blood slowly, ravenously consumed them.
"Hold on!" he bellowed from below. "Just hold on a little longer!!"
Upon seeing Kyran's arrival, a flicker of hope reignited in Ryze's eyes.
However, his wings were already dissolving into blood, and the bones in his arms were fracturing, compelling him to emit a scream of agony. Unlike Rex or Kyran, he was unaccustomed to enduring such pain. Furthermore, he was not a werewolf, leaving him unprepared for this magnitude of suffering.
Even if his body possessed sufficient resilience, his mind was not conditioned for it.
Kyran landed in the courtyard and immediately observed Ugrok and Delta standing guard at the main entrance.
"The two of you, head inside and escort Rex's body to safety. Proceed south. Ensure he is buried outside the city limits!"
He resumed his movement, ascending the tower.
Above all else, his priority was to ensure Calidora's safety. Although the castle stood as the most fortified structure in the entire city, thus the safest, Kyran was unwilling to leave anything to chance. Not when Rex's child was at stake, requiring the utmost priority.
Rather than relying on the castle's inherent strength, it was wiser for them to maintain a considerable distance.
They needed to evade the sphere of blood entirely.
Kyran's claws dug into the stone as he climbed with increasing speed.
Everything in his vision began to slow. His peripheral sight dissolved into an indistinct blur, narrowing his focus to a singular, intensely sharp point—the unglazed window where Calidora was expected to be. His own breaths were the only audible sound, harsh and labored, while the world around him was enveloped in a profound silence.
A silence that had consumed all other noises.
He then heard a sharp sound pierce the air.
Glancing over his shoulder, he witnessed the final remnant of the Blood Moon, just before its disappearance, unleash a stream of blood that descended like a spear from the heavens. Although the world's energy intercepted the majority of its force, a single strand managed to slip through and impacted the sphere of blood.
This sudden surge of power reverberated through his entire being and struck Ryze as a physical blow.
Ryze shrieked in pain as his flames dissipated, and he plummeted downwards like a fallen angel.
In an instant, the sphere of blood collided with the barrier protecting the castle.
Every iota of energy the castle had accumulated was expended simultaneously, fortifying the protective barrier to its absolute limit. This provided Kyran just enough time to reach the bedchamber, his gaze locked onto the pale Calidora.
"Come now!" he commanded, extending his hand towards her. "We must depart immediately!"
"I... I do not wish to leave," she whispered, her eyes fixed on the approaching sphere of blood. "Rex will protect me."
"Are you serious?!" Kyran moved closer and seized her wrist, pulling her forcefully. "He is not in this realm at this moment. He cannot protect you!"
"No! I do not want to go!"
"Do not be foolish! If you remain here, both you and your child will perish!"
"We will not die! As long as Rex remains alive—"
"But he is not present right now!" Kyran's grip tightened around her wrist, his resolve hardening. If she refused to come willingly, he would drag her. Whatever notion had taken hold of Calidora's mind, this was hardly the time for deliberation. "Forgive me for this, but I am taking you away. Now."
"No!" Calidora struggled, attempting to pull away. "I refuse to leave!"
She tried to grasp at anything with her hands, even employing her Eyes of Terror in an attempt to halt Kyran.
However, her current weakness rendered her incapable of any significant action.
Her abilities exerted minimal to no effect.
Kyran's danger sense flared urgently.
He looked upwards. A fissure had appeared in the barrier, no larger than a basketball—and from it, a lance of pure blood shot forth. It descended rapidly with lethal intent, its target not Calidora herself, but her abdomen. Aimed at the child within. A message etched in crimson, intended for Rex.
In the nick of time, Kyran stepped forward, positioning his body as a shield.
Splash—!
Further intensifying his assault, he unleashed the Ice and Snow King Mark, channeling it into the colossal lance.
Calidora’s eyes widened in disbelief as the blood lance halted mere inches from her abdomen.
She clutched her belly, her breath hitched, holding it as if it were the most precious treasure.
And in that moment, it truly was.
"Harghh..."
Kyran coughed out a mouthful of blood, straining to keep the lance in place. One leg was extended back for balance, the other firmly planted, anchoring him. He could feel the immense pressure of the lance pushing back against his kingly Qi; his hold wouldn't last much longer.
"R-Run..." he urged, glancing back at Calidora. "Run, now!"
Jolted from her stupor, she began to scramble away.
However, she stopped short, instinctively turning her head just in time.
She narrowly dodged another blood lance that hurtled towards her head.
Crash!
Calidora watched as the massive blood lance embedded itself in the wall. Pulling her head back, she felt a trickle of blood run down her cheek from a graze. She remained utterly still, paralyzed by fear.
"Witch!" Kyran bellowed. "Get her out of here!"
A dark energy began to swirl around Calidora, but it was pierced through by another incoming blood lance.
A sharp cry echoed as the Witch of Chaos was violently repelled, her attempt to rescue Calidora thwarted.
Kyran’s gaze shot upwards, his heart hammering against his ribs as the massive blood sphere above began to fracture.
He desperately needed to move, but his body refused to obey.
Before he could fully comprehend the situation, his pupils dilated in shock. The castle's protective barrier shattered, and the blood sphere descended like an apocalyptic meteor. Yet, in the nick of time—a blur streaked across its path. A shadow plunged its hand deep into the blood sphere and gave a violent twist.
The sphere imploded, dissolving into a chaotic shockwave of raw power.
Swoosh—!
A devastating ring of energy expanded outwards as the blood sphere was annihilated.
The resulting force ravaged the city below and tore through the surrounding landscape.
Kyran blinked, his vision slowly adjusting to the figure hovering above. "How is this even possible...?"
