The Invincible Full-Moon System Chapter 1858: Demigod Hunting (1)
Previously on The Invincible Full-Moon System...
It had been quite a while since he last hunted alongside his pack mates.
Perhaps that explained the intense, unbridled excitement currently coursing through his veins.
Rex allowed his feral instincts to take the lead, sprinting violently through the wilderness. His gaze remained locked on the pair of targets fleeing ahead, his pulse racing with the intoxicating adrenaline of the chase. Behind him, Lilliana and Davina moved with shadow-like silence, mirroring his every stride.
Without any restrictions binding this realm, every individual power Rex possessed was fully at his disposal.
The moment he initiated the hunt with his pack, his passive skill was instantly triggered.
Just like a pack of wolves that gains ferocity through unity, their collective speed surged dramatically.
From the depths of the Godlings’ realm, the rustling wind carried the distinct, frantic vibrations of prey.
Swoosh—!
"Grand Spell, Symbol of Lightning."
The lightning sigil manifested upon Rex's shoulder.
Black sparks of electricity crackled across his physique as he lunged forward, closing the distance in a blur of motion.
Rex attempted to rake the haughty Godling with his sharp claws, but his assault was parried. Sparks showered the area as his claws ground against the curved blade of his opponent. In the blink of an eye, they traded a dozen rapid strikes.
Both combatants moved with such intensity they appeared as mere flickers to the naked eye.
Their speed surpassed anything a mortal could comprehend.
A grin crept onto Rex’s face as he immersed himself in this brutal, close-quarters duel.
Aside from the augmentation provided by his lightning nature, he refrained from utilizing other trump cards, boldly challenging the Godling in a pure test of physical prowess. They were two masters of the blade, each strike calculated, efficient, and devoid of wasted motion.
They fought like legends who had perfected their craft through centuries of combat.
Rex felt his physical form growing lighter and more responsive than ever.
Having fully embraced his beastly nature, combined with the realization that his relentless pursuit of strength was fueled by his innate desire to protect his loved ones, the burden that once weighed upon his chest had vanished.
With Davina by his side, he finally understood that he stood among the truly powerful.
And the powerful need not be shackled by the opinions of the weak.
He possessed the autonomy to pursue his every desire. If he lacked such freedom, there would be no reason to strive for greater heights.
A door to a vast world of limitless potential had swung open for him.
For the first time in an age, he felt no compulsion to hold back.
There was a profound sense of liberation in knowing that the conventional laws no longer constrained him. His mind reached a state of laser focus, his body executing every move in perfect harmony. It was a miracle how transformative self-acceptance could be.
A wave of relief washed over him.
‘I am faster than him,’ the Godling registered, his pupils widening as he watched Rex’s claws strike. Yet, a creeping sense of frustration gnawed at him. ‘And yet, every time I attempt a counter-attack, he somehow manages to evade or deflect it at the very last fraction of a second.’
Clang—!
Rex delivered a crushing strike against the curved blade, forcing his opponent backward.
Simultaneously, the Godling’s eyes went wide as he noticed the earth turning into a crimson ocean of blood.
He had been so fixated on tracking Rex that he had failed to notice the terrain shifting around him.
A moment later, the liquid blood surged toward Rex, thickening the oppressive weight of his aura.
Having now mastered the Blood Moon Echo, he found that new paths lay open before him. Certain techniques demanded the consumption of blood—either his own or that of others—such as the Indirect Moon Ability, the Original Blood Physique.
Previously, slaughter was the only reliable way to ignite this power.
Not anymore.
Rex could tap into this ability whenever he pleased.
With the technique fully activated, his speed perfectly matched that of the Godling.
At that junction, the disparity in their raw martial skill became glaringly obvious.
Bam—!
‘Since he emerged here, I assumed he was merely a Demigod who had just ascended from the Spirit Realm,’ the Godling mused while struggling to block a relentless barrage of punches. His wrists were suddenly seized and immobilized, followed by a vicious headbutt that shattered his nose. ‘But his fighting style is far too savage for a simple inhabitant of the Spirit Realm.'
‘Is he... could he really hail from the Mortal Realm?’
Roaring in indignation, the Godling exerted his strength to wrench his arms free from Rex’s iron-like grip.
However, the atmosphere shifted instantly as an unseen force struck from his flank.
Back in the Mortal Realm, only those with a sensitivity to cursed energy could perceive his Damned Specter approaching. For others, no matter how powerful, detecting the phantom in the cursed dimension remained an arduous task.
The fact that the Godling successfully deflected the kick from the Damned Specter implied he possessed the ability to sense it.
It had to be because of the foreign energy used by those in the God Realm.
While traditional inter-realm manipulation was impossible within the Primordial Meadow, opening local dimensions remained plausible. Rex faced no restrictions when deploying the Damned Specter, confirming his suspicion regarding the nature of that foreign power.
<Notice: the Damned Specter skill remains completely unsuppressed>
Splash—!
"Grrgh?!"
Rex coughed up a spray of blood as an unseen projectile impaled him from behind, piercing clean through his torso and leaving a gaping hole in his chest.
Given the heightened senses of his werewolf form, such an occurrence should have been nearly impossible. Yet, the foreign energy masked the attack, dulling his intuition and blinding him to the incoming threat.
The Godling’s smug expression proved he noticed Rex’s vulnerability.
"You cannot sense it, can you?" the Godling mocked. "How do you expect to stand against me?"
Rex ignited his red force, his body radiating steam as he elbowed the invisible steel pike protruding from his back, snapping it in two. Simultaneously, dozens of identical holes appeared around him. Although he couldn't see the source, he knew it was the invisible force responsible for his injury.
In a rapid motion, he crossed his arms.
With a guttural grunt, he unleashed a powerful shockwave of raw power.
He channeled the Blitzing Cry skill.
Typically, this low-level technique would lack the necessary potency, but imbued with divine strands and reinforced by the Law of Misdirection, the shockwave acted as a shield, shielding him as his eyes flared with golden lightning.
Blitz—!
Pouncing like a predatory beast, he charged forward.
The King Marks materialized on his brow, propelling his combat capabilities to a terrifying new level.
Channeling his kingly energy into his claws, he manifested the Red Dawn of Kaiser flawlessly. It fit his charged claws like a tailor-made artifact, invoking the overwhelming influence of the Blood Moon Echo and the Law of Inevitability.
This was more than a mere strike; it was the ultimate culmination of his power.
Every scrap of strength he had gathered from the Mortal and Spirit Realms was concentrated into this singular instant.
"Direct Moon Ability, Brutal Impulse!"
BAM—!
Charred black and red runes manifested in the air as Rex’s claws stopped just inches from the Godling’s chest. The opponent attempted to flee, but space had been locked tight around him. Bound by the Law of Inevitability, escape was impossible.
He was forced to withstand the impact.
Even so, he displayed no intention of retreating.
"Let us see who falls first!" the Godling smirked. "You or me?"
Shattering the spatial lock, he interlocked his fingers.
"Primordial Authority," he commanded, pointing at the earth beneath Rex’s feet. "Steel Oustification: Divine-Piercing Spear."
A rift opened silently beneath Rex that he failed to notice.
To the Godling’s gaze, a pale portal emerged, from which a lethal spear materialized.
Swish—!
The spear rocketed upward toward Rex’s heart. Death was the inevitable consequence for any being struck by such a weapon; it did not merely ravage the body and soul, but drained the very divinity from its target. It was a spear forged to execute Demigods. If the discrepancy in divine power proved sufficient, the weapon would obliterate the target, erasing them from existence entirely.
Since Rex was but a novice Demigod, his destruction seemed certain.
Unfortunately for the Godling, Rex was more than just a Demigod.
He was also a Scion.
Clang—!
"What?!" the Godling cried out in disbelief as a crimson energy—completely imperceptible to him—wrapped around the spear, halting its advance. Such a feat should have been physically impossible. "What trickery did you employ?!"
"Can’t sense it, can you?" Rex replied with a vicious grin.
Any threat directed at him was neutralized by the Absolute Anger Effect.
It appeared that even this foreign energy failed to overcome the innate power of a Scion.
BAM—!
As the Brutal Impulse finished its charge, the resulting shockwave was catastrophic. The blast thundered across the landscape, radiating with devastating force. Even the Godling could not escape the rampaging energy as he was sent flying like a discarded doll.
His high-grade armor shattered under the sheer pressure of the aftershock.
Like a wraith, Davina drifted into position above Rex, her eyes glowing with celestial intensity.
Raising her hands and tails, she summoned a massive star the size of a building, pulsing with the combined energy of her bloodline and the Star Echo. With a grunt, she compressed the immense power down until it was no larger than a mortal’s head.
Without a flicker of hesitation, she hurled the star of oblivion at the reeling Godling.
Before he could regain his footing from the Brutal Impulse, the secondary, superior attack struck home.
KABOOM—!
Rex and Davina watched as a sea of white light consumed everything in their path.
A blinding detonation expanded like a dome of pure annihilation.
Everything it touched was erased from existence. The ground beneath them groaned and buckled, convulsing from an earthquake rivaling a seven-magnitude cataclysm. Deep fissures splintered the earth, tearing through the landscape like starving maws that devoured whatever remained.
Rex glanced toward Davina, genuinely surprised by her sheer destructive potential.
"Don’t you think that was a touch excessive? I doubt it would require that much force to finish him off."
"Excessive? Hardly," Davina replied with a cold, nonchalant shrug.
"But that massive explosion might have drawn unwanted attention, don't you think?"
"If it were truly a concern, you wouldn't be appearing so calm. I’m quite certain you’ve already ensured no traces of our activity are leaking out," she said, meeting his gaze with a knowing look. His silence confirmed her assessment. "Besides, these wretches deserved nothing less. They are abhorrent. I despise them."
Rex huffed in response.
Naturally, she loathed them; they were the antithesis of everything she held noble.
"Calm down," Rex said, folding his arms. "There is no point in hating dead men. What of the other one? Do you truly believe your sister can stall that one?"
"Lilliana lacks my raw strength, but that does not mean she is incompetent," Davina said, shaking her head. She radiated total conviction in her sister’s performance. "Besides, my sister is exceptionally gifted at survival and harassment."
As the dense smoke dissipated, the Godling finally came into view.
To their surprise, he remained upright, though his state was utterly dismal.
His armor hung in tatters—cracked and shredded in dozens of places, offering no defense against the harsh environment. Trails of blood tracked down his brow and arms, mixing with the grime of the conflict. His exposed flesh was charred, revealing raw, glistening muscle beneath.
Jagged claw marks were etched deep across his torso, still weeping blood profusely.
He stared blindly toward the heavens, his breath coming in ragged, labored gasps.
One more strike, Rex knew, would undoubtedly be the end of him.
