The Invincible Full-Moon System Chapter 1839: From Deeper Water

Previously on The Invincible Full-Moon System...
Morgana endures excruciating pain as her Angel bloodline is diluted, silently pleading with Rex for mercy while he contemplates the remnants of the Angel portal. Learning from the System that destroying the portal requires killing its creator, Rex turns on the weakened empress, rejecting her desperate offers to vassalize her empire and savagely beating her in refusal. As Rex nearly crushes her heart, chaotic energy surges through Morgana's body, transforming her into a vessel for an incomprehensible entity that defies death and urges him to stare into her eyes.

Rex staggered back as crushing her heart failed to slay her.

Her ethereal voice chilled him to the bone.

Tempered by endless fights to the death, Rex swiftly called upon all three of his Soul Artifacts and ignited their Spirit Genesis. A gleaming golden disc appeared, positioning itself between them. A sturdy golden exoskeleton cloaked his frame like extra armor. Then, he deployed the Inevitable Death to seize Morgana’s brain.

Furthermore, the Law of Inevitability, Misdirection, and Foresight were all engaged.

The Law of Inevitability ensured that any strikes she aimed at him would go astray. His second Law, the Law of Misdirection, guaranteed that any energy she tried to muster would dissipate. Finally, the Law of Foresight allowed him to anticipate every potential assault she might unleash.

No surprises could catch him off guard.

Rex created as much separation between them as possible to escape.

He relied on the System sufficiently to view this as a grave danger.

In that critical instant, time dragged to a crawl.

Rex heard his heart thumping loudly in his ears, along with his ragged, shallow breaths pressing against his chest. His gaze remained fixed on Morgana with intense concentration, ensuring she stayed within his sight.

His form also morphed and contorted into its beastly state.

For the best shot at survival, he needed to transform into his werewolf shape.

That was when Morgana finally stirred.

Her motion wasn't the explosive burst he had expected.

She didn't even gather her power to shatter the barriers of energy dividing them.

Rather, she drifted ahead like a specter.

Rex's breath caught in his throat while he observed Morgana passing through the Aegis of Moon Sentinel. Even as Rex adjusted the Law of Misdirection and Inevitability to prevent her from nearing, she simply glided past them.

As though she existed beyond the bounds of reality.

His Law of Foresight detected no advance signals as she drew closer.

Even his third Law proved entirely ineffective.

Rex attempted to pulverize the blood-brain formed by Inevitable Death in his grasp, yet it resisted. An unseen force transformed it into an unbreakable stone, preventing him from smashing it with mere brute force.

Despite channeling all his might into crushing it, the blood-brain held firm.

Additional notifications swarmed his view.

But time had already slipped away.

Morgana was right there, extending her hand toward him.

Her fingers pierced into his chest, forcing Rex to draw in a sharp, icy breath as they encircled his pulsing heart. Feeling those frigid digits, his body locked up against his will, leaving him completely vulnerable and immobile.

This helplessness differed from what he knew.

In this instant, he couldn't unleash his full power. His body refused to obey.

"Misery..." She murmured eerily. "Be thou undone."

Rex jerked as her hand tightened around his heart.

Each pulse grew more agonizing than the previous. Blood trickled from his mouth—and darkness encroached. Death felt familiar, but this surpassed it. It seemed his very soul was being obliterated.

<Warning: a higher form of chaos energy is infiltrating the user’s body!>

<All enhancements have been nullified!>

<Reverting the user’s form back to normal>

<Be advised, the user’s physical body and soul will completely disappear in one minute!>

<It’s recommended to use the Invincible II item>

Amid the haze, he deciphered the alert clearly and chose to follow it without delay.

Curse the other Scions.

Should they detect his abrupt power surge, complications could arise, yet none compared to perishing as he nearly did if he skipped the Invincible II item. But halfway through his thought, Rex spotted motion from the corner of his eye.

A silhouette emerged just a few paces to the right.

She acted instantly, encircling Morgana’s outstretched arm with her own.

Bursts of energy surged into the limb, freezing it solid.

In the next moment, Rex blinked and saw Morgana’s body solidify into tangible form. As if her prior state was merely an astral echo of her true self. Now, she was anchored to the physical plane.

"Crush it now!" Nivellen cried out desperately. "Do it now!"

Rex cleared his mind and clenched harder. The blood-brain no longer felt rigid like before, but soft and pliable like actual tissue. Exactly as it should be. He smashed it, and upon doing so, the blood-brain exploded into chunks of brain and gore.

Behind Morgana’s eyes, the chaotic frenzy that had gripped them finally faded.

Only then did the violet glow vanish entirely.

Unwilling to risk further surprises after that ordeal, Rex drove his claws into her chest and savagely split her in half. Her corpse tore apart, splattering the frigid stone floor with gore, a gruesome scene that would sicken most onlookers.

Yet Rex had no moment to dwell on it.

He collapsed to his knees, gasping for air, with icy sweat beading along his temple.

"I know you’re impulsive, but that was downright foolish," Nivellen remarked, gazing down at him.

She understood Rex’s fiery nature.

She recognized that rage often fueled his decisions.

But he seldom opted for such idiotic tactics, preferring to craft ideal situations where his fury could blaze most effectively. This occasion, though, marked a truly reckless blunder on his behalf. "What were you thinking? What did you expect to gain from that delay? That entity surely hailed from the Chaos Realm’s depths. Encountering it brings only doom."

Rex offered no reply.

He concentrated on steadying his breathing and scanning for injuries from the clash.

"Chaos tainted me. That fact alone should highlight the peril of that realm," Nivellen’s eyes sharpened. Clear irritation and fury laced her tone. "Never waver against Chaos. Never grant it mercy. You endured so much to rescue me. Do you wish for that fate again?"

"Aren’t you supposed to stay hidden?" Rex questioned, eyes averted. "Don’t pop up unexpectedly. I’ve got this under control."

Nivellen regarded him with astonishment.

She had intervened anticipating potential disaster.

Death by Chaos meant even his soul wouldn’t persist, ensuring true oblivion.

Yet this was his reaction to her aid.

"You’re not reasoning clearly." Nivellen began to fade—slipping away from the realm unseen. "But hear this well. Employ your divinity—purify yourself thoroughly, body and spirit. And after you’ve regained composure..." Her form dissolved completely, though her words echoed on. "I trust you’ll choose wisely."

Rex shifted back until his back met the wall.

With Morgana slain, the portal began to fade, closing that chapter.

His blood-smeared hand clutched his face, knuckles paling as he clenched his jaw amid the inner storm.

"What in the world am I doing?" Rex muttered to himself.

For starters, Nivellen had spared him from activating the Invincible II item and drawing the Scions’ notice. He ought to express some thanks for that, but he hadn’t. Instead, he brushed off her worry as trivial.

At present, though, his thoughts bore a heavy burden.

Nivellen was now free of chaos corruption, so his focus shifted from her to the one still requiring his aid. Edward. In contrast to Nivellen, he possessed zero knowledge of Edward’s plight.

What state is he in within the Chaos Realm? Is he seeking an exit? Can he hold on?

Does he even live?

Rex was clueless, and that anguish twisted his mind into fabricating connections that suited his hopes.

Chaos manifested, and his immediate assumption was Edward attempting contact.

Edward was marooned—adrift in an alien domain devoid of anything benevolent, probably suffering torment even now. The notion that he’d somehow linked to the Spirit Realm strained credibility.

Far more probable was another force sparking this event, not him.

And Rex should have recognized the folly in his desperate illusions.

"Damn it, man," Rex pressed his face tighter. His keen claws inadvertently raked his skin, carving fresh marks across it. "At least let me know—you’re damn well okay. That you can tough it out longer. Back in the Noob Box, you were the biggest whiner, squealing like a kid."

...

Several days had elapsed since.

Upon returning to the hideout, Rex faced an unexpected update from Varya.

She reported losing contact with multiple distant Shade Crawlers, those not yet evolved into Silverstars. This coincided with his battle against Morgana, pointing to a single cause.

The System confirmed its likelihood.

When the possessing entity delved into his body and soul with her might, she discovered more than just him. She pinpointed all his close allies and linked their essences to his in a collective bind.

That likely explained the brief hesitation while she squeezed his heart.

Rex had pegged the entity as cruelly playful, but it proved coldly methodical.

The ability to detect and eliminate numerous targets simultaneously rendered her utterly horrifying.

Luckily, the Shade Crawlers now Silverstars were positioned near Varya.

And due to that proximity, their forms and souls were fortified.

Those factors let them persist a bit longer until Nivellen intervened.

Regrettably, several Shade Crawlers couldn’t endure and had their bodies and souls fragmented. He had intended to convert the survivors into pack members, but that option seemed closed now.

Beyond that, Amanir and Devo remained confined with Dorn.

Figures such as Davina and Liliana insisted on his attendance during the ritual. From their perspective, it was the prudent choice. After all, no one could predict if Dorn might implant sabotage in Devo and Amanir for future betrayal.

But such concerns didn’t faze Rex.

Indeed, he challenged Dorn to attempt it, knowing the System would detect any anomalies.

And that would sever Rex’s ties to this realm for good.

Moreover, Rex lacked the luxury of time.

He devoted days within the Black Rift, pursuing and annihilating swarms of voidal beasts across the terrain. Every group flagged by the Shade Crawlers was hunted and decimated. Gold accumulated swiftly in the System.

Nine-hundred and seventy million gold appeared an enormous sum.

Yet with the Shade Crawlers and his boundless endurance, it equated to mere days of effort. Rex now perched upon a pyramid of cadavers—countless thousands of ripped and twisted remains, piled skyward.

The odor was revolting, but to his werewolf senses, it was intoxicating nectar.

Traversing the lands for massacre proved utterly invigorating.

He quelled his inner turmoil, emerging much more composed than prior.

"Your Majesty." Linthia floated before him, undisturbed by the reek. "Davina and Liliana are preparing to leave. They’ll gather the dispersed empire troops. Do you have words for them—prior to their departure? Or a note for another?"

"You mean Althea?" Rex laughed at the idea. "She’s a spoiled one. Let her stew in her fury."

He snapped his fingers, summoning Alana.

"You summoned me?" She inquired.

"Instruct Kei Xun to support Davina and Liliana. Ensure the empire submits to their command," Rex directed. He aimed for the Haeltara Empire as a subordinate to the Clarentium Empire, requiring those two in prominent roles. "Compel the Crown Prince to align with them."

"As you command," Alana inclined her head deferentially and vanished once more.

Rex rose and gazed toward the distant skyline, "Now, it’s time to head back home."
