The Invincible Full-Moon System Chapter 1819: Sky Judgment
Previously on The Invincible Full-Moon System...
Dorn absorbed far more insights than he had anticipated from Emperor Dominar.
Chaos had launched two assaults on the Spirit Realm, one through the corruption of the Reap and Sow Echo, and the other via Morgana’s uprising fueled by an Archangel’s revenge. The second incident also revealed the Angels’ ties to chaos.
Additionally, Dorn now confirmed beyond doubt that Rex originated from the Mortal Realm.
Dorn was aware of werewolves, yet he needed solid proof to be sure.
After all, numerous mutations lurked within the Black Rift.
This realization hit him hard, underscoring just how fearsome Rex truly was.
‘The Mortal Realm has grown weaker these days, but it still holds ways to tear open portals into our domain. I—or the fellow Gatekeepers—would detect his arrival if he relied on potent techniques,’ Dorn’s eyebrows furrowed deeper in concern. ‘No one picked up on it, so his entry must have been insignificant. But how is that possible...?’
Every Gatekeeper carried the Will of Spirit within them.
This was a unique mutation among the Sky People, inherited across countless generations.
It granted them the ability to perceive any rift or intrusion into their realm, though only the dangerous ones registered. Any entity surpassing the Master Immortal Spirit rank entering would be swiftly spotted and eliminated.
Rex’s undetected entry implied he was feeble upon arrival.
In scarcely more than a month, he had ascended to the Eternal Spirit rank.
Such rapid advancement was downright horrifying.
‘Mirza showed similar explosive progress. He slipped into our realm unnoticed and climbed the ranks swiftly,’ Dorn pondered briefly, spotting a clear parallel between them. ‘Could they be connected? No, Mirza isn’t a werewolf.’
Finally, Dorn understood there was a strong likelihood that chaos targeted Rex for some hidden motive.
Whatever involved chaos posed a threat to the entire Spirit Realm.
As a Gatekeeper, Dorn held deep knowledge of the Chaos Realm.
Deeper than anyone else in the realm, without question.
Part of his role involved blocking invaders from foreign realms, including those from the Chaos Realm.
Voidal Monsters stemmed from leaks at the Chaos Realm’s outermost layer, known as the Surface, with rare Voidal Monarchs emerging from profounder depths. The Spirit Realm lay in devastation due to this breach.
The event flipped everything upside down, triggering waves of genocides.
The Angels’ race fell victim to one such purge.
With a superior entity from the Chaos Realm possibly in play now... Dorn swallowed hard.
The mere thought sent chills through him.
Not even fortune could ensure their survival.
The realm’s dwellers could only plead for aid from neighboring realms back then.
Particularly the God Realm, for utmost security.
Emperor Dominar counted among the fortunate, facing death soon and thus spared from witnessing the realm’s total collapse. Dorn, however, shouldered the greatest burden as the initial bearer of tidings about the looming peril.
He became the first afflicted with awareness of his realm’s potential doom.
And as its Gatekeeper, he couldn’t simply ignore it and wish for fortune.
Addressing it was his solemn obligation.
‘Stay near the usurper...’ Dorn mused inwardly while exiting the throne room. Emperor Dominar strode alongside him. ‘To start, I must gain his trust. Fulfilling his demand marks the initial move. Next, I’ll persuade the other Gatekeepers to—’
Dorn’s musings cut short as he spotted the Gatekeeper of Shadow and Light locked in dispute.
They had lingered, awaiting his return.
Merely minutes had elapsed, yet they clashed heatedly.
"I refuse to debate this further," the Gatekeeper of Light dismissed with a wave of her hand. Arms folded, she turned aside, refusing even a glance. "I won’t converse with a coward who doesn’t possess the guts to fight back."
"I never claimed we shouldn’t strike back, you rude harlot," the Gatekeeper of Shadow snapped his tongue in fury. Age had stripped away any restraint between thought and speech. "I’m just urging utmost caution."
"Who’re you labeling a harlot, you ancient mutt!"
"Address my point instead. Quit dodging what I’m actually proposing."
The Gatekeeper of Light scoffed disdainfully.
"You wish I’d stop overlooking your timidity? Very well. We didn’t seek conflict first. Is it unjust to reply in kind? Our kin got massacred."
"Your narrow view will lead to far greater slaughters! This is utter folly!"
A squad of one hundred armored spirits stormed into the courtyard, led by a Baron. He surveyed the castle gateway and fixed a fierce stare on the Gatekeepers holding the emperor captive. Like an ideal knight from tales, he unsheathed his blade and thrust it ahead.
"Rescue the emperor!" He bellowed, spearheading the assault.
His followers mirrored the charge, invoking their Soul Artifacts.
In crisis moments, some seized chances wagering on the emperor’s endurance.
His survival would sustain the empire, boosting their own standing dramatically. Yet their timing proved off. As the Baron vaulted toward the quarreling Gatekeepers, an abrupt surge of energy overtook him.
The Gatekeeper of Light and Shadow each snapped their fingers.
Swoosh—!
A blast of light and shadow erupted outward.
Its force vaporized half the squad into radiance, while the rest dissolved into dark, inky fluid.
The Baron suffered the same fate: one side burned away, the other liquefied.
Not a single one endured.
Right then, Dorn reached them, "What’s happening here?"
"It’s trivial," the Gatekeeper of Light averted her gaze. Her breaths still came ragged from rage.
"Trivial? Hardly!" the Gatekeeper of Shadow whirled to face Dorn. "This foolish wench—reached out to the other Sky Cities and triggered the Sky Judgment. She stood alone in approval, so its might is reduced, but it remains a grave hazard!"
Dorn’s complexion paled in an instant.
He had already arranged with them to hold back until clarity emerged.
Yet the Gatekeeper of Light acted unilaterally.
"Tell me he’s fabricating this," Dorn confronted her, his features contorting in wrath. Silence met him, confirming her secret deed. "Zorina—you didn’t go through with it. We discussed this prior to arriving..."
"Pull yourself together," Emperor Dominar murmured from nearby. "Time’s running short."
Dorn jolted from his daze at the words.
He glanced skyward, "Where did you direct it? Where did you send that annihilation beam?!"
Receiving no reply from Zorina, he soared upward swiftly, with the Gatekeeper of Shadow in pursuit.
"What’s the issue?" He inquired, catching the intense alarm on Dorn’s visage. "What secrets did that emperor reveal?"
"That our realm desperately requires him!" Dorn snarled while hurtling toward the Sky City.
He ascended like a blazing comet.
Roar—!!
Suddenly, a recognizable howl echoed.
It originated from Rex, no question. Dorn yearned to accelerate, but he lagged behind.
Miles off to his right, a vivid white glow raced closer, illuminating the night sky briefly. His arm extended on reflex, conjuring lava from nowhere to shield Rex, yet the beam outpaced it.
CRASH—!
Dorn shielded his eyes with raised arms.
Through his fingers, he observed the Sky City quake under the beam’s impact.
Then, piercing the trailing clouds from the left behind, the serpent erupted—a howling comet as the glow fractured its hide and charred its body to charred wreckage. Its cry vibrated to the core.
Even for Dorn, witnessing the extinction ray strained his vision painfully.
His eyes burned red, yet he compelled himself to observe.
Not for thrill, but to confirm if Rex had been struck.
Regrettably, his dread materialized as Rex hurtled across the darkened heavens. Cradled by the serpent, the beam still engulfed him. The glow and Rex vanished toward the distant edge, leaving Dorn powerless to intervene.
As darkness reclaimed the sky, he spun and fixed a glare on Zorina.
She appeared content with the outcome, oblivious to the catastrophe she unleashed.
"What exactly transpired?" the Gatekeeper of Shadow glided over to Dorn and demanded. "Why does that... entity matter so much to our realm?"
"He could be the key to erasing the Black Rift," Dorn replied through clenched teeth. He sensed the Gatekeeper of Shadow’s curiosity for details, but the moment wasn’t right. "For now, ensure Zorina avoids another blunder. Resort to force if necessary."
"And you?"
"I must hunt down that usurper," Dorn peered upward, spotting silhouettes plummeting from the Sky City. Those had to be the Shade Crawlers under Rex’s control. "If that ray killed him, we’re doomed. And should he endure... I doubt he’ll depart our realm anytime soon."
...
A pair of voidal monsters gnawed at several new corpses.
A wandering band of Spirits had traversed their domain, but their Seeker failed somehow. Defenses dropped, making them prime targets for the two Ghoul-resembling Voidal Knights prowling nearby.
Each morsel sliding down their gullets invigorated them deeply.
It brimmed with potent life force that sent thrilling shivers along their spines.
As they polished off the initial body, they froze suddenly.
A tremor rippled through the atmosphere, prompting both to scan warily for a mighty voidal beast nearby.
But no voidal beast caused it.
A luminous speck flashed afar, and before reaction was possible, it cratered the earth close by.
CRASH—!
On instinct, one Voidal Knight bolted aside, hauling a corpse along.
The second braced against the quake and growled at the disturbance.
Enraged at the interruption of its feast, it advanced to the crater and beheld a steaming chasm in the soil. The depth concealed the base even from its sharp sight, unhindered in the Black Rift’s gloom.
Still, an overwhelming surge of life energy wafted from below.
Without hesitation, it plunged in with a eager smirk.
The drop exceeded expectations, ending in a jarring tumble that snapped its ankle. Such a trivial fracture meant little to a Voidal Knight; it mended nearly immediately.
Surveying the surroundings, it quaked at the view of a colossal charred beast encircling the pit.
The carcass radiated a staggering life force.
Its presence alone surpassed a Voidal Lord, rendering it vastly superior to the Voidal Knight. But the dread faded quickly upon noting the beast’s demise.
Windfall.
Unaware of the carcass’s source, the Voidal Knight knew consuming it could elevate it to Voidal Lord status. As it scaled closer, seeking a vulnerable spot to tear into the meat, its gaze caught another figure.
This one lay still on the ground, enclosed by the beast’s coiled form.
Unlike the lifeless beast, this creature breathed, though faintly so.
As if fortune favored it that day, this live one outranked a Voidal Lord too. Being alive promised richer energy absorption, so the Voidal Knight opted to consume it first before death claimed it from injuries.
Yet as jaws parted for the bite, a hand lashed out.
The hand clamped its face, crushing until the skull burst.
