Apollo contacts his mother, Valerica, through a communicator, assuring her he is alive and well. He reveals he will not return to college after the war, as King Sigismund has tasked him with a diplomatic mission into Coalition space. Valerica expresses understanding and pride, while also warning him about her sister. Meanwhile, Valerica travels to see Janine and Orchid, excitedly telling them they will be going to see Apollo.

Opening her eyes, she felt herself, the aching of her bones was an old friend she could afford to ignore. She sat up. Around her and connected to her were wires and monitors.

As confusion of her surroundings subsided, she began to remember. She was at war. On the battlefield. She saw her son...

"Apollo!" Gabrielle cried out, her power began to flair up, prompting a series of alarms to go off. The last thing she remembered was a wall of metal hitting her, sending her flying away from her son.

She failed to kill the Warlord and now...

She began to pull the wires out of her body recklessly, blood now pooling down her arms and legs. She was about to start breaking her way out of here before the door to the room opened on its own.

In walked a man, over eight feet tall, holding two Milkshakes, one in each hand. Seeing her up and the alarms flaring, Hugo sighed. "I leave for five minutes for a milkshake run and now you decide to wake up? You are taking years off my life here Gabrielle."

Gabrielle just glared at Hugo; she was too hurt to care. Her son. "My son... We were at war... A Drakoshi..."

"Your son is fine." Hugo stated in a tone that screamed fact. Instantly, Gabrielle’s power subsided. The grief disappeared as she looked at Hugo, desperately.

"He is?"

Hugo nodded his head. "Yes. I have received the word directly from King Sigismund himself. He has taken a real liking to Apollo."

Gabrielle frowned hearing that. "Yeah, well the fucker better stay in his lane. He goes after my son, I’ll fucking murder him."

"..."

Hugo just stood there for a moment. His brain burster injury began to flare up with the stress so he did the best he could to mitigate it and began sucking from the straw to his left. The thick melted ice cream Milkshake washed away his stress in a cool, creamy delight for the tastebuds.

"Ahhh~" He sighed happily before deciding to ignore Gabrielle’s treason.

"So Sigismund Killed the Warlord? Also, I assume we are in Olympus?" Gabrielle asked, walking towards Hugo. She then reached out to his right hand and took one of the shakes for herself and began to drink.

Hugo just stared at the woman for a second, heartbroken by what just happened before collecting himself. "My Milkshake... I mean Yes! No! Yes, we are in Olympus and no, If the reports are to be relieved, it was actually Apollo that Killed the Warlord. On his own."

...

The world slowed to a crawl.

Falling slow, the container carrying the finest nectar in the universe began its first and final descent.

There was no surviving such a fate. The body it stored itself in was too fragile, too malleable. Impact would be its doom.

Slowly it fell. For what seemed like an eternity in the eye of the beholder.

There was no saving it, it was fate after all. It would stain the floors, leaving its imprint behind, alongside feelings of grief and despair.

The bottom hit the ground first. The impact was like an explosion. Kinetic energy forcing the liquid contents to thrash upwards, the lid, the poor feeble thing, popped open like a cork during a celebration.

But this was no celebration. This was a great tragedy.

...

Hugo looked at his Milkshake Gabrielle had dropped on the floor, its contents slowly seeping into a cool, delicious puddle. He felt a piece of him die for a moment before Gabrielle spoke up.

"My Baby did what?"

Hugo lingered his eye on the Puddle for a moment longer before turning to Gabrielle. "I said what I said. There was some explosion involved apparently, injuring one of the two Warlords present on the planet, but yes. Your son killed a Warlord single handed.

Gabrielle’s body began to feel good. The aches, the pains. They vanished. She lost control of her legs, forcing her to sit back down on the bed. She also lost control of her facial muscles.

Her smile was so wide, Hugo feared the corner of her lips would split. He had seen a lot, but this was actually scaring him a little. That didn’t help as she started creepily giggling while her eyes stayed unblinking.

"Hehe. Hehehe~ My son saw me injured and avenged me in his rage and loss. He loves me. My son loves me. Hehehe~ He killed a Warlord for me because he loves me. He defied the odds because he loves me. More than anyone else in the universe. Hehehe~"

’Uh oh.’ Hugo thought, as Gabrielle began to show signs of even further mental degradation. He was about to take action, putting her back to sleep with the nanites he had placed around her cerebellum, when she suddenly stopped and turned to him.

"Where is my baby now? I think he and I need to have a proper chat; Now that I know he cannot live without me."

Hugo raised his eyebrow in surprise. He hadn’t expected this. "The war is still ongoing, though with Sigismund there now, it’s in its final days. So, even if I was going to stop you from going, as you are in no condition to re-enter a warzone right now, by the time you would have gotten there, Apollo wouldn’t be there any longer."

Gabrielle pouted and folded her arms. Fine! Then I will go back to the College and wait for him there... Happy? Dumbass old man telling me I can’t go to my son’s side. Piece of shit."

Hugo decided he didn’t hear the part where Gabrielle mumbled and just replied, "Sure, sure you could do that. Or you can stay here, rest. Recover. And when Apollo comes to Ecumenopolis 1 after the war is over, you only have to take a short flight to the royal palace instead of travelling back from Leondis’ moon. How does that sound?"

Gabrielle smiled. "That sounds-" As she spoke, the door to her room swung open. A figure was now standing there. Auburn hair loosely tied back and her grey eyes looking at Gabrielle. Her face was stoic, icy, but her eyes showed her true feelings as she walked inside.

I heard the alarms and had a hunch. "Gabby, are you well?" Hailey asked, coming to Gabrielle’s side.

Gabrielle took Hailey’s hand and nodded. "I am. Did you hear the news? Apollo killed a Warlord for me."

"For you?" Hailey asked, confused. Of course, she had heard he killed the warlord. Such was the strength of her man.

"Yes. For me. Apollo saw his mother nearly die and in rage became strong enough to avenge his mother. How romantic is that?"

Hailey frowned. "Gabrielle, we talked about this. You aren’t supposed to-"

"-I know. But you don’t need to worry anymore about that agreement. I’m not scared anymore. I know my baby can’t live without me now. So I am going to tell him the truth. About just exactly who I am."

Hailey let out a glint of surprise on her face. "Really?" Gabrielle simply nodded at her. "Well about time. We both know what Apollo is like. He will be happy to learn about this."

Gabrielle then scrunched her face slightly. "I don’t know about that."

"What do you mean?" Hailey inquired.

"Well, before I got swatted like an insect by that Warlord’s war hammer, he and I had a conversation the day before about genes and all that. To cut a long story short. He was very excited about the prospect of changing my genes and creating a woman he could really love and mould into his perfect woman... I don’t know how he is going to feel about me now as he is going to see me as his mother. His true mother, not like that usurper Hyllus bitch."

Hailey had a slight suspicion that Gabrielle had extremely twisted their conversation subject into what she wanted to hear and that was not actually what Apollo had said.

She felt it was her moral responsibility to ask Gabrielle if that was what he truly meant and to tell her if her boyfriend was actually just talking about his gene science in a non sexual way, however, Gabrielle then spoke.

"Oh and if you help me with coming out to him about who I truly am. I might play favourites and keep you ahead in the marriage candidacy against the other suitor I found for him while we were fighting together. After all, a mother does get a say in the women her boy fucks.

The room suddenly became very icy as Hailey glared at Gabrielle. "What other suitor? You are supposed to be my guardian. Why are you trying to set up other skanks with my man?"

"Because I am your guardian, but Apollo is my son. Now, if you continue to threaten your boyfriend’s mother with Psionics, I will be forced to defend myself. And then you will never kiss his soft delicious lips ever again."

Hailey’s thoughts went a mile a minute as she stared at Gabrielle for a few moments before ultimately sighing and lowering her head in submission.

Gabrielle nodded at this. Good girls follow orders after all. She then suddenly began to cough violently as her throat was extremely dry. Before she began her preparations for Operation: I am your mother. She needed to be at peak performance.

Turning to Hugo, who was just gawking at her like a big lummox, she pointed her finger at his left and then curled her finger in a beckoning gesture.

"Hugo, I am thirsty. Give me that."

Hugo looked at his Milkshake, then back at Gabrielle, his eye filled with soul crushing pain. "N-No. This is my milkshake."

"Hugo. I don’t have time for games. I am thirsty. You are my doctor, I am your patient. Give me your drink." Gabrielle demanded. Why was he timewasting? She didn’t have long to plan this extravagant event.

Hugo looked at the floor where his milkshake lay melting. That was two days of treat allowance gone. Sighing dejectedly, he begrudgingly handed over his Milkshake before leaving the room to grieve two great losses.
