The hivemind is conquering for me? Chapter 875: Amberrock Once More
Previously on The hivemind is conquering for me?...
"How is she doing?" I asked the room as I stared down at Gabrielle. Her body was covered head to toe in bandages and casting.
"She is tough. Honestly, I don’t know many who could have survived a blow like she took. It was like she was hit by a ship. There is only so much I can do with my power at the moment as her entire body is brittle, but in my opinion, she will live and recover. It’s just a matter of time." Francesca spoke from the side.
My gaze remained on Gabrielle for a few moments longer. Just watching her breath. The fact she was, brought me comfort. Though not enough.
"With air superiority back, I want her on the first ship out of here. Understood? She needs a safe place to recover and this planet is not it. Is that clear?" I demanded, no room in my voice for debate.
Francesca nodded her head, "Yes. Of course, Sentinel."
I then reached over and ran my hand across Gabrielle’s forehead. The action made the woman stir slightly, a smile appearing on her lips, but she didn’t wake.
The movement made me nod my head. I had decided.
I turned to leave, but Francesca stopped me by calling out, "Wait, Apollo? Where are you going? You look ready to commit murder."
I paused and turned slightly, looking over my shoulder. "Murder? No. You don’t murder parasites. You exterminate them. I’m just going to do what I was brought here to do."
"Apollo! Don’t do anything reckless. You are still injured." I heard Francesca speak, but I didn’t listen. I simply walked out of the tent where two beauties were waiting for me.
"Let’s go."
...
For three weeks Kragg had been pushing back against the human forces with shocking triviality. His new strength and the passive enhancement of his troops allowed him to take thousands of miles of territory back.
He and Vrakul had been working surprisingly well together. During the clone stage of life for a Drakoshi. internal conflicts were rare, but once you became a true new born Drakoshi, things get political and complicated.
Vrakul had none of these tendencies. He was simply enjoying the war. Killing the humans in abundance wherever he went. The only current difficulty in the war was this ’Purple Reaper.’
After Vrakul failed to kill him, the reaper had been relentless, attacking flanks, killing hundreds of Drakoshi with his quirks before vanishing seemingly into thin air.
The number of clones being killed bothered Kragg. They were already finite now due to losing the ships with only a few hundred on the planet; This was not enough to reinforce the losses from Purple Reaper and the conflicts with the human forces.
Kragg was looking over his battle map, taking in all the data. Where Purple Reaper had attacked in the past. Where he would most likely attack again. But he cannot find the pattern.
This vexed him greatly.
As he was going over where he could position himself to perhaps have time to intervene the next time the Reaper was spotted, his accommodations were breached without permission. Only one other Drakoshi was allowed to do so without being killed so Kragg knew who it was.
"Still reading your maps?" Vrakul asked, walking into the room and placing his hands down at the table in front of him.
"Comparing ours to the human ones we have gathered. They mark terrain more efficiently than we do, I’ll give them that." Kragg declared, causing Vrakul to snort in amusement.
"Well, they are tiny. They have to. What are you looking for?" He asked and Kragg looked up at him for a moment.
A few weeks ago, Vrakul was not particularly pleased with how Kragg acted. Kragg knew he would never act like other Drakoshi, and he supposed that meant other warlords. He wasn’t brainless after all.
However, the Emoth Warlord had seemed to come around. Appreciating the tactical Mind that was Kragg’s.
"I am looking for possible ways to kill the Purple reaper. He may be one human and not a threat to us, but to the clones he clearly is and since your failed attempt to kill him, he has become dangerously good at evading us."
"Mind yourself Kragg. I like you. You don’t want that to change." Vrakul warned, sternly before gazing at the maps himself. The room became silent for a few moments before his large finger pointed at something.
"We can forget Purple Reaper. So the clones are dying? Big deal... All we need is to destroy this fort and Oizik can get into the ocean. From there we can continue to fight or wait it out until we get reinforcements and the world is ours easily."
Kragg looked at the name of the fortress on the human map ’Amberrock’ and compared the location on his map.
"Hmm. That is the fortress Oizik failed to take before calling you here. From the intel we have, that place is one of the most heavily fortified locations on the planet for the humans right now. I would wager that there are weapons that could injure us there. I say we go north. I am familiar with the terrain there. It might take another week of fighting, but we will know for certain that casualties will be less than storming that fort."
Vrakul proceeded to stop for a moment and looked Kragg up and down. "You know, I know you Dinnac are different from us Emoth, but sometimes it is hard to determine if you are being tactical or if you are a coward. No. I need proof now that you are not. We assault this rock of amber and together we will reduce it to rubble. I will begin mobilising the clones, we march at sun up."
Kragg then watched as Vrakul left the tent. The moment he was gone, Kragg let out a large huff and ran his hand across the top of his head. This was not good. He recommended the north because his quirk was going crazy looking at Amberrock.
But he couldn’t tell Vrakul that. Sure the Warlord was nice as Warlords go. But that also meant he had even more reason to hate quirks. Vrakul had fought on the true battlefield against the true enemy after all...
Kragg had no choice, but just because he had no choice, didn’t mean he wasn’t going to take every single precaution he had to make sure he did not somehow perish. So he called over Oizik clones into his tent over the next few hours, survivors of that battle for every scrap of information he could get his hands on.
His destiny was greater than this rock. He would not perish here now he was all that closer to his goals.
...
"The intel is factual. The Drakoshi are mobilising towards Fort Amberrock. Both Warlords are on their way here." Serena spoke to those present in the war room. The room hearing this was not as tense as a room knowing two Warlords were on their way towards them. In fact some were smiling.
"Thanks to our strategic ’losses’ we have slowly but surely forced the Drakoshi towards us here. However, even with our overwhelming fire and manpower at this fort, the battle will not be easy. Two warlords can break through, even with our larger weapons trained on them. For that our Praetorian allies will be vital in our defence. They might not be able to kill the Warlords outright. But that doesn’t matter. All we need to do is buy time. Have all the Phalanx mobilise and prepare for combat at a moment’s notice. The final battle for LLeon T1 is at hand."
The leadership swiftly left the tent, leaving Serena alone with the group of Praetorians. At which point Phoebe asked. "Still nothing on Apollo?"
Serena shook her head. "No. Our navy has photographed some of his handywork. Dead crispy Drakoshi behind their lines here and there where we couldn’t be. But no one has actually seen him."
"Are you sure?" Nerissa suddenly spoke up. There was an emotion in her voice that Serena recognised, but didn’t linger on it.
"I am sorry, I am sure Apollo is fine. Still though... I do wish he was here for this fight. Even though he can only use it close to death, having that power of his here as a final resort could turn the tide of battle if things go sour fast."
"Will you stop looking so sad that Apollo isn’t here?" Rhapso spoke up, shaking her head. "Apollo is working for us the best way he knows how. The Drakoshi fear him, as they should. Nerissa, you remember how effective Apollo was as our commander during the sabotage campaign correct? Now imagine him working for our best interest without worrying about us during battle? No Apollo is exactly where he needs to be and I can guarantee whatever he is doing now will only benefit us during the next battle. So let’s get prepared to fight these Drakoshi and make them bleed!"
