"Waaah! I want to see Master!"
Eira sobbed, kicking her little legs helplessly.
"But Master isn't here right now, Eira. He won't be back for a while."
Obsidia, sitting beside her, tried to calm her down. However, Eira didn't seem to hear her and continued crying loudly.
Obsidia massaged her temples. It had been two months since Nolan left, and Eira had cried like this every single day.
She had never taken care of a child before. As a result, the past two months had felt like pure torture.
"Is Eira crying again?"
A calm voice came from behind her.
Obsidia turned around and saw Malverna walking toward her.
It was as if she had just seen her savior. She hurried to her and grabbed both of Malverna's hands.
"Malverna, please take my place!" she pleaded. Desperation was written all over her beautiful face. "I really can't take care of Eira anymore! She cries all day and keeps asking for Nolan! I'm at my limit! Please?"
Seeing the hopeful look in Obsidia's eyes, Malverna instinctively took a step back. But with Obsidia still holding onto both of her hands, she couldn't get away.
"Ahem!"
She cleared her throat before forcing a smile.
"Just watch her a little longer, okay? We'll take turns later."
Of course, it was a lie. She didn't want to take care of Eira either.
It wasn't that she was heartless or disliked the girl. The problem was that Eira cried nonstop every single day. Even Malverna couldn't handle it.
That was why she had passed the responsibility to Obsidia in the first place.
And now that she had finally escaped that duty, there was no way she was taking it back.
Obsidia's expression darkened. Tightening her grip on Malverna's hand, she asked suspiciously, "Malverna, tell me the truth. Did you deliberately dump this job on me so you could relax?"
Malverna froze. She hadn't expected Obsidia to be so perceptive.
"Ahem!"
She cleared her throat before quickly denying it.
"Come on, what are you talking about? Do you really think I'd do that?"
Obsidia's doubts gradually disappeared. Even so, she still couldn't shake the feeling that Malverna had done exactly that.
Otherwise, why would she refuse to switch places with her?
Just as Obsidia was about to say something, a beam of light suddenly appeared before them.
A handsome man stepped out of the light and greeted them with a smile.
"How are you two doing?"
"Arnold!"
Obsidia's eyes lit up, as if she had found an even more reliable savior.
She immediately rushed over and grabbed both of his shoulders.
"Arnold, help me!"
"Hmmm? What's wrong?"
Obsidia pointed at Eira, who was still sobbing on the sofa.
"Can you talk to her? For the past two months, she's been crying every single day and begging me to take her to see Master. But you know that's impossible, right? I'm completely out of ideas. I don't know how to handle her anymore."
Arnold looked at Eira, who was still crying, and fell silent for a moment.
Then he gently patted Obsidia's hand.
"I'll try talking to her."
Obsidia let out a sigh of relief and took a few steps back.
Arnold walked over to Eira. Her sobs had begun to die down, but she was still sniffling, with a little snot hanging from her tiny nose.
Her chubby cheeks were bright red from crying, making her look even more adorable.
Arnold sat down beside her and asked softly, "Why are you crying, Eira? Do you miss Lord Nolan?"
Eira wiped away her tears and gave a weak nod.
"Mhmm... Eira misses Master. I want to see him."
She looked up at Arnold, tears still welling in her round eyes.
"Brother Arnold, can you help me see Master? Just for a little while, okay? I want to ask him why he left me."
Fresh tears rolled down her cheeks.
"Does Master hate Eira so much that he left me? If that's true... what did Eira do wrong?"
Seeing the heartbreak in her innocent eyes, Arnold couldn't help but soften. He gently patted her head.
"How could he ever hate you? Lord Nolan cares about you very much. He may not always show it, but he's always thinking about the people he loves."
Eira's fear and anxiety eased a little, though they didn't disappear completely.
"T-Then... why did he leave without telling me?" she asked quietly.
Normally, Nolan would always tell her whenever he had to go somewhere far away. They could also communicate through their spiritual bond.
But when Nolan left two months ago, he hadn't said a single word.
It made her feel abandoned and heartbroken.
Arnold fell silent for a moment before smiling and gently pinching her cheek.
"Lord Nolan didn't want you to worry. Do you know where he went?"
Eira shook her head.
"I... don't know."
"Lord Nolan went back to his hometown."
"His hometown?" Eira's eyes widened in surprise. "I-Isn't Master from here? He's a prince, isn't he?"
Arnold let out a soft chuckle. He wasn't sure how to explain it.
Among Nolan's subordinates, Arnold was the one closest to him. Their relationship went beyond that of master and servant. They were more like close friends and confidants.
Nolan had once told him that he was a reincarnator from another world.
At first, Arnold had been skeptical. But he had personally witnessed the era of the two heroes and the Demon Emperor a thousand years ago.
The universe was vast, and other worlds weren't just myths—they truly existed.
The summoning of Rei and Lucas was proof enough. So when Nolan told him the truth, Arnold had felt amazed, astonished... and afraid.
The gods he had once believed were nothing more than human fantasies had turned out to be real.
"How should I explain the situation...?"
Arnold rubbed his chin, wondering whether he should tell her the truth.
Then an idea suddenly came to him.
"I'm sorry, I can't tell you."
"Huh!? Why!?" Eira cried out.
Arnold put on a troubled expression as he explained, "You're still too weak. Lord Nolan's secret is far too important. If too many people learn about it, he'll be put in danger."
Eira's face turned pale. She hadn't expected that learning Nolan's secret could put him in such danger.
"T-Then... how can I find out?" she asked nervously.
A faint smile touched Arnold's lips, but it disappeared just as quickly.
He cleared his throat before replying in a gentle voice.
"The only way is for you to become stronger."
"Become stronger?" Eira's round eyes widened.
"That's right." Arnold crossed his arms over his chest, his expression unusually serious. "Only by becoming stronger will you be able to learn that secret. Right now, you're still too weak, so I can't tell you."
Eira puffed out her cheeks. Before, she had never thought about becoming stronger.
She always had Nolan by her side. Why would she ever need strength?
But things were different now. She wanted to become stronger so she could find out why Nolan had left.
"Brother Arnold, I want to become stronger!" Eira declared firmly.
Arnold chuckled inwardly, though he kept a doubtful look on his face.
"You want to become stronger?"
"Mhmm! I want to become stronger!"
She stood up on the sofa and pumped her little fist, as if to show her determination.
"Only by becoming stronger can I learn Master's secret! Only by becoming stronger can I protect Master! So... I want to become stronger!"
Arnold burst out laughing and clapped his hands.
"That's more like it!"
He picked Eira up and got to his feet.
"Don't worry. I'll take you to the right place. I guarantee you'll become a strong dragon one day!"
Eira's eyes lit up at those words.
Arnold then walked over to Malverna and Obsidia.
"I'm taking Eira with me."
Obsidia let out a sigh of relief, as though a heavy burden had finally been lifted off her shoulders.
"Where are you taking her?" Malverna asked curiously.
Arnold gave a faint smile.
"To the place where the Dragon Ancestor lives."
