"The dance is about to commence. Those of you with partners, please step into the center of the hall so everyone can witness your affection!"
As these words rang out, the faces of the young nobles brightened with excitement.
This dance was the highlight they had been anticipating—especially for those who already had partners or were officially betrothed.
It served as the perfect platform to display their romantic connections to the gathered crowd.
Without delay, the young nobles flocked to the center of the floor alongside their partners or fiancés.
The group was quite substantial, accounting for nearly half of those in attendance.
Naturally, those without partners could only look on with envy at the couples holding hands in the middle of the room.
Aldrian appeared eager as the music began. He had been looking forward to this specific moment since the day before.
Wearing a wide grin, he moved toward Seira, intending to speak, but she brushed past him, leaving him standing in her wake.
Aldrian froze in disbelief. He watched as Seira approached Nolan, who was busy conversing with Elsa.
"Nolan, would you like to dance with me?" Elsa asked with enthusiasm, her voice tinged with bashfulness.
Just as Nolan was about to respond, Seira suddenly intervened, slipping her arm through his.
"Let's dance," she declared.
The look of hope in her eyes left Nolan unable to refuse, so he offered a brief nod.
"Very well."
He then turned to address Elsa with an apology.
"My apologies, I am going to dance with my sister instead."
With that, he guided Seira onto the dance floor, leaving Elsa motionless behind them, clearly shocked that Nolan had turned her down.
As Nolan and Seira made their way to the center, the other nobles who hadn't begun dancing grew puzzled.
"What is happening? Why is Princess Seira with another man?" a young woman asked with hesitation.
"I have no idea. But who is that man? To dare take Princess Seira's hand... does he have a death wish?" a man muttered, frowning as he glanced at Aldrian, whose expression had darkened as though he had swallowed something foul.
The other nobles viewed Aldrian with a sense of pity.
They remained oblivious to the truth behind their engagement, yet watching the woman he supposedly loved dance with another man was clearly agonizing.
"That is Prince Nolan Lorian, the younger brother of Princess Seira. Keep your comments to yourselves."
A voice cut in from behind them.
Turning around, the nobles identified the speaker as the Third Prince, Meliodas.
He possessed a refined face, long golden hair, and an intense gaze capable of unnerving anyone he looked at.
However, the slight, mocking smirk on his lips stood in stark contrast to his otherwise cold demeanor.
"Prince Nolan Lorian? So that is him!" one of the nobles exclaimed, surprised. "He is the useless prince despised throughout the Great Velmora Empire. I never expected to see him here."
The others chimed in, gossiping about Nolan. His reputation as a lazy prince was well-documented across the southern continent.
Some even labeled him the "most repulsive prince," claiming his nature was entirely contrary to what royalty should be.
"I understand they are siblings, but this is still bizarre. Prince Aldrian is Princess Seira's partner. Is it not strange to abandon your official partner just to dance with your younger brother?" a woman questioned aloud.
The others nodded in solemn agreement, assuming the royal family must be hiding something significant, given that Seira was acting with such blatant disregard for protocol.
Sadly, none dared to investigate further, as doing so would be akin to courting death.
While they conversed, the hall lights suddenly flickered and vanished. A moment later, spotlights focused on the center of the room.
The dancers were highlighted as music swelled to fill the space.
Nolan and Seira locked hands and began to move. The dance styles among noble families across the continent were largely uniform, save for the distinct, unique traditions of the eastern continent.
Consequently, their movements fell into rhythm with the rest of the crowd.
"Why have you chosen not to dance with Aldrian?" Nolan inquired, taking a small step back.
Seira stepped forward to match his pace, replying in an irritated tone, "Do you think I actually want to dance with him? The sight of him makes me physically ill."
Aldrian's sycophantic behavior was truly repellent to her. Were it not for Nolan's insistence, she would have departed for the imperial palace days ago.
Nolan offered a soft chuckle. He placed his left hand on her waist and raised his right to grasp her left hand.
Seira spun elegantly, momentarily brushing her chest against Nolan's, before stepping back once more.
She then linked hands with him again, moving gracefully in time with the melody.
"After this dance, you will go and dance with Aldrian," Nolan instructed.
Seira narrowed her eyes, though she did not immediately object.
"Is there a reason?"
Nolan gave a sharp nod, his focus drifting toward the nobles waiting on the sidelines.
He observed Karakh, Aldrian, Meliodas, Melody, and Gulvar before speaking in a hushed tone: "In less than half an hour, a disaster will likely unfold. The provocateur is the Third Prince, Meliodas Lyren."
Seira flinched, though she maintained a composed expression, as if his warning had not fazed her.
"What is he planning?"
She was familiar with the name Meliodas, but she had never interacted with him personally.
Tonight was her first time seeing him, so her knowledge of his schemes was limited.
"I cannot be certain. Two days ago, I received word that servants were preparing a trap for this event. You must remain vigilant. Your role is to charm Aldrian and keep him distracted so that he does not notice the threat. After all, this trap was set specifically by Meliodas to ensnare him. Can you handle that?"
His suspicion that the Void Reaver Disc was embedded in Aldrian’s body was finally confirmed.
Just moments before, he had used his Chaos Eyes to peer into Aldrian, detecting a strange, latent power within him.
This force acted as a protective barrier; so long as the host remained safe, it stayed dormant. However, should he be placed in true danger, it would spontaneously activate.
Essentially, Nolan intended to exploit the approaching chaos to gauge the true strength of the Void Reaver Disc.
Of course, he felt no fear. He could force the artifact out himself if he truly wished to.
But why undertake the effort when someone else was willing to trigger it on his behalf?
That was why Seira’s cooperation was required—to seize Aldrian’s focus and leave him vulnerable. Only in that state would the Void Reaver Disc naturally reveal its function.
Seira looked directly into Nolan’s violet eyes. After a beat, she smiled and nodded.
"Very well, I will do it. But in return..."
She leaned in close to his ear and whispered, "You owe me a favor. How does that sound?"
