Elina sat on her horse, gripping the hilt of her sword tightly. Freya and Evalyn did the same.
Tens of thousands of cavalry troops stood in formation behind them, ready for battle.
Suddenly, a black wave appeared in the distance.
As it got closer, its shape became clearer—a massive army of tens of thousands.
"They're coming! Get ready for battle!" Elina ordered.
"Yes, Your Highness!" the soldiers replied in unison.
As the enemy drew nearer, tension among the soldiers grew.
Finally, the enemy army slowed its advance and came to a halt four hundred meters away.
A burly man rode out from the ranks on his horse.
"Let me go to the front," Freya said.
"No, sister. Let me handle this."
Freya turned to Elina, looking uncertain.
"Are you sure?"
Elina nodded slightly.
"I'm sure. Don't worry. I can handle it."
Hearing this, Freya said nothing more.
Elina tugged on her horse's reins, urging it forward.
Seeing her approach, Corvin laughed heartily and slowly reined in his horse.
"Hahaha! So, we finally meet, Your Highness Elina. It's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Corvin, leader of the rebel forces."
Corvin placed a hand over his stomach and bowed his head slightly.
Elina stopped a short distance away and smiled coldly.
"So, you're the one behind all this, huh? No wonder just looking at you makes me sick."
Corvin's smile faltered for a moment, but he quickly recovered and chuckled softly.
"You have a sharp tongue, Your Highness. But I like that."
Elina ignored his insolent remark. She drew her sword and pointed it at Corvin.
"On behalf of the empire, I order you to surrender now. Otherwise, don't blame me if I kill you right here," she threatened coldly.
Instead of showing any fear, Corvin simply smiled.
"I'm sorry, Your Highness. Your threats won't work on me. From the very beginning, I've only ever done what I wanted, including starting this rebellion. If I surrender now, wouldn't all my efforts have been for nothing?"
Elina narrowed her eyes, but she wasn't angry. It was as if she had already anticipated his answer.
"So that's how it is. Very well. If that's what you want, then accept your fate."
"The winner hasn't been decided yet."
Corvin laughed.
"Let's see who comes out on top."
Sparks seemed to fly between them as their gazes met.
They then turned around simultaneously and returned to their respective positions.
"What did he say?" Freya asked as she approached.
"He refused to surrender," Elina replied indifferently.
Freya simply nodded. She had expected as much.
"Sister Evalyn, we'll proceed with the original plan," Elina said.
Evalyn smiled broadly.
"Leave it to me."
Whoosh!
A gust of wind swept in from the west. The tension between the two armies grew so intense that it was almost difficult to breathe.
Elina raised her hand and shouted, "Archers, ready your bows! Mages, raise your staffs!"
"Yes!" they replied in unison.
The archers raised their bows and drew their strings taut.
The mages began chanting their spells, and the arrows in the archers' hands started glowing brightly.
Evalyn stood up on her horse, drew the Holy Sword of Luminus, and thrust it forward.
"Charge!" Corvin roared.
"Charge!"
The soldiers behind him shouted in unison before spurring their horses forward.
Unlike Corvin, Elina didn't immediately command her troops to attack. Instead, she glanced at Evalyn and said softly, "Now."
Evalyn bent her knees before leaping into the air.
The Holy Sword of Luminus glowed brightly as she raised it high above her head.
"Hero's Technique: Judgment!"
Whoosh!
The sword's light grew even more blinding as Evalyn swung it forward.
A ten-meter-long slash formed in the air before shooting toward the enemy forces.
Srck!
Hundreds of soldiers were cleaved in two in the blink of an eye. Yet, the survivors continued charging forward like madmen who feared no death.
"Archers, fire!" Elina commanded.
Fwoosh!
Hundreds of bright blue arrows shot into the air before raining down on the rebel soldiers.
"Argh!"
The soldiers hit by the arrows screamed in pain and fell from their horses.
"Again!" Elina shouted.
Fwoosh!
A second wave of arrows shot into the air and rained down on the advancing forces.
Roughly a thousand enemy soldiers fell.
Seeing this, Corvin gritted his teeth in anger. He had expected this outcome, but that didn't make it any easier to accept.
"Charge! Don't be afraid!"
"Charge!" the surviving soldiers shouted.
Realizing that long-range attacks were no longer effective, Elina dug her heels into her horse's sides and charged forward.
"Attack!"
Freya drew her sword and charged forward as well.
Tens of thousands of cavalry and infantry troops surged forward alongside them.
And just like that, the biggest battle of the year officially began.
...
Jason stood facing the window, gazing up at the blue sky.
"What's the situation? Has the battle begun?"
Sergan bowed his head respectfully.
"It has, my lord. Our spies have just sent word."
Jason nodded slightly.
"What do you think? Can Corvin's forces defeat the imperial army?"
Sergan remained silent. Even a fool could guess the answer.
The imperial army consisted of highly trained and formidable soldiers.
Meanwhile, the rebel forces were merely a ragtag collection of ordinary people and second-rate soldiers with little to no combat experience.
In terms of both resources and training, the two sides were simply incomparable.
When Sergan offered no answer, Jason chuckled softly.
"I know what you're thinking. But what if I told you that the rebel forces would win?"
Sergan gasped.
"What do you mean?"
Without even glancing in his direction, Jason replied, "I just received word that the Holy Empire of Valtanir is sending forty thousand troops. No, I stand corrected. They should be arriving on the Corvil Plains any minute now."
Sergan's eyes widened in shock.
"Forty thousand!?" he exclaimed.
That number even exceeded the size of the imperial army.
"The southern border has already been breached, so there's no one left to guard it. They can enter without worrying about being stopped," Jason explained casually.
Sergan was at a loss for words. Until now, he had been worried that the rebel forces would be defeated. After all, their defeat would mean the collapse of Jason's plans.
But it turned out that wasn't the case.
With the Holy Empire of Valtanir coming to their aid, the rebel forces' chances of victory had increased significantly.
"Even so, stay vigilant. Don't let this news reach the imperial court. I don't want them finding out. Understand?"
Jason turned and fixed Sergan with a cold stare.
Sergan nodded firmly.
"Don't worry, my lord. I'll keep it a secret, even if it costs me my life!"
Jason simply nodded.
Suddenly, someone knocked on the door, followed by a panicked voice.
"M-My lord, bad news! Marquis Caltheron is here!"
