The Glorious Evolution Chapter 437: Three Unforgettable Names.
Previously on The Glorious Evolution...
The assembled spectators remained uncertain whether Jasmine had truly vanquished Rain, given his capacity to disperse and reconstitute elsewhere. Even Bishop Na’thir and the Hound found it difficult to reconcile what their senses perceived.
“His soul is anchored within the Hexgaze Lurker’s mental fortress... no one of this caliber can eliminate him unless they manage to capture the Lurker itself.”
The Hound’s brow furrowed deeply as he redirected his attention, along with the other observers, towards the Chameleon, tracking the pursuit initiated by Levi. Gamemaster Envy had specifically indicated the Lurker for this purpose.
However, the instant the Hound’s gaze fell upon the chameleon, his breath caught in his throat, his eyes wide with incredulity. He quickly reached out to the Bishop, exclaiming, “Master… it’s glitching… it’s happening.”
“Be silent… I can see.”
Bishop Na’thir’s expression hardened into a mask of ice as he observed the Chameleon flickering erratically between its spiritual, physical, and illusory states. Despite Levi not yet having closed the full distance, the Bishop understood that the outcome was now inevitable.
As the architect behind the fusion of Rain and the Hexlurker, he took immense pride in having engineered one of his most exceptional creations – two beings whose inherent traits and aspects harmonized perfectly, thus giving birth to the ultimate assassin.
An incorporeal phantom, beyond reach.
Yet, he had eventually discovered a critical flaw in Rain's existence: should either constituent entity suffer even the slightest injury, their merged form would descend into uncontrollable instability. It was as though their very souls instinctively yearned to break apart and revert to their natural states. After all, their union was not the result of a binding pact or natural birth; their souls and bodies had been forcibly interwoven on an operating table until they were perceived as a singular entity.
“Such a drastic reaction… the primary soul must have endured significant trauma.” Bishop Na’thir’s cold gaze shifted back towards Jasmine, though a spark of curiosity lingered deep within his eyes. “I cannot fathom how this young woman achieved it… However, the Gamemaster’s silence concerning her techniques suggests her Aspects are shielded by Nocturn’s authority. And Nocturn never conceals a Rifter’s knowledge unless he deems it a secret of paramount importance.”
His astonishment was mirrored by Bishop Va’ren and the other formidable figures present, who felt as though their investment in this spectacle had been insufficient for such a breathtaking display. It was more than just uncovering Levi’s Aetheric Flames.
Now, they had encountered two previously unknown Aspects, about which neither they nor the network possessed any information. In bygone eras, such a revelation might not have been particularly startling, considering the existence of thousands, perhaps even more, of undiscovered Aspects.
But in the current age? It was an exceedingly rare occurrence, particularly for an Aspect of such high caliber, possessing the ability to manipulate reality itself.
“Black and White inks… two contrary aspects possessing immense binding power.” Bishop Va’ren released a prolonged breath to steady his racing heart. “If I could obtain the girl and her nightcrawler lineage, I might stand a chance of developing my own signature original concoctions with comparable capabilities…”
Bishop Va’ren was not the sole individual harboring such avaricious desires. Numerous other beings from diverse noble lineages, specialized disciplines, or enigmatic backgrounds immediately recognized Jasmine’s profound value, a potential far exceeding ordinary comprehension.
When Levi’s possession of the Soulleech Maw was factored into this equation, every one of them committed three names to memory, with no intention of ever forgetting them: Levi Larson, Jasmine Rahma, and finally…
’Terra…’
’Terra… I must contact the Clan and provide an urgent update… other Houses will soon begin channeling their resources into this planet, and we must secure our position first.’
’Dispatch a message to the Elders… Terra is not a wasted world, contrary to the scouts’ reports. It is a crucible for anomalies… If we fail to establish a presence now, we will be contending for mere remnants of their influence within a decade!’
’I require a comprehensive report on every known phenomenon, or those yet undiscovered, currently on Terra! These individuals cannot possibly originate from the same planet, the same region, without some form of divine intervention! I am convinced that Terra is one of the universe’s favored focal points, and we must explore it thoroughly… for our ideals, our convictions, our pursuit…’
Whether they were Illustrious Noble Houses, Shadowy Cults or Organizations, or simply inquisitive entities, Levi and Jasmine had inadvertently summoned a tempest upon that small blue sphere, a storm fueled by the avarice of countless empires.
While these powerful entities deliberated in the shadows, Jasmine remained utterly unconcerned by the tempest she had ignited. The instant she had eliminated Rain, she felt every iota of strength drain from her body, rendering her incapable of even resisting the pull of the rope.
Her entire being was poured into the effort to obliterate Rain, and her companions were the very first to perceive the detrimental shifts... Just as she was on the precipice of being swept away by the gale and cast into the chasm, Nurah materialized from the shadows, intercepting her descent.
‘You can finally rest… You truly gave it your all.’
Nurah offered a soothing smile while steadying Jasmine on the rope’s surface… Despite this, Jasmine’s expression remained unaltered by her friend’s solace.
She had unleashed one of the most potent abilities within her repertoire… a skill that guaranteed the demise of nearly any opponent at a comparable cultivation level, given that the authorities of Ink and Erasure held sway over numerous other Aspects under the universal laws.
Although this invariably came at the cost of her entire Qi reservoir, rendering her incapable of deploying it against multiple adversaries or when her Qi levels were not at their zenith.
Furthermore, the necessity of meticulously detailing her target to ensure its absolute erasure presented an additional constraint.
Nevertheless, it remained a formidable ultimate ability.
While all were astonished that Jasmine could achieve such an audacious feat, Jasmine herself understood it was insufficient.
‘It’s not finished yet… I’ve yet to secure half of his accumulated horns.’
She transmitted a message to everyone present, her gaze fixed upon Levi and the flickering Chameleon on the opposing side.
Upon hearing this, Nurah and the remaining Daywalkers shifted their focus to the pursuit… The instant they registered the glitching Chameleon, their countenances hardened.
"So, that’s what Levi had been pursuing all along."
"Is that the mercenary’s true form?"
Arthur and the others remained entirely oblivious to Levi’s prior actions, as he had not disclosed any information regarding the Chameleon… and given that only he and Jasmine possessed the ability to perceive it, their only recourse was to place their faith in Levi.
"True form or not… Let’s move out!" Tyrese bellowed, "Defeat him, and the game concludes!"
Tyrese’s commanding voice served as the catalyst, jolting the Daywalkers from their stupor. A surge of simmering fury propelled them across the rope to aid their captain; having been rendered helpless, feeling as though their very lives had been stripped from their control, each one harbored a profound, incandescent hatred for Rain and his associate.
Concurrently, Arthur, Shia, and Nurah remained behind to manage Jojo and Jasmine… They felt assured that Levi would eventually prevail.
Unbeknownst to them, despite its erratic glitches and apparent lack of control over its forms, the Hexgaze Lurker retained its signature slipperiness.
"Blast it… I can’t even ensnare him." Levi’s brow furrowed deeply.
He was positioned hundreds of meters distant from the Chameleon, perspiration coursing down his forehead and saturating his black bandana. Every stratagem he had devised had been employed, yet he remained without success.
The Hexgaze Lurker had perfected the technique of eluding capture… encompassing physical, spiritual, and even mental entrapment… It navigated each with its own methods, leaving Levi feeling more powerless than when he had contended with Fang.
While it might appear that the Hexgaze was merely prolonging the inevitable, given his certain demise at the game’s conclusion, in actuality, he was doing more than simply surviving… Throughout the prolonged pursuit, his consistent objective was to gather the numerous Giant Horns scattered around him and Levi!
He had amassed such a significant quantity that Levi was compelled to seize any nearby Giant Horn to prevent its forfeiture.
It seemed the spectators had finally taken notice, registering the precipitous escalation in the Conqueror’s Faction’s accumulated points.
-What in the world… how are they closing the gap so rapidly?!-
-Is there some kind of system malfunction?!-
-Wait… It’s him! It’s that peculiar Chameleon!-
The elucidation was swift, leaving the onlookers gasping: the faltering Chameleon was instantaneously teleporting from one Giant Horn to the next, darting across the battlefield like a flickering crimson apparition!!
The moment a horn materialized within its proximity, it was immediately claimed!
The stark reality that the spawn rate of the Giant Horns had dramatically increased in the game’s later stages offered no solace to the Raiders either!
"What an unexpected turn of events!! Even after enduring all the Raiders have faced, the Conqueror’s Faction resolutely refuses to concede!! With only five minutes remaining on the clock, Jor’Thyrek shows no sign of relinquishing his aggressive pace!" Gamemaster Envy declared with evident delight at the unfolding scenario.
He harbored the conviction that should the Raiders’ Faction falter in their victory at this event, especially in such a harrowing fashion, the game would be etched into history bearing his indelible mark.
A solitary Chameleon, possessing no discernible abilities beyond its capacity for evasion, was poised to become their ultimate undoing!
