Yang Ruyu brings Lun Dou to Bone Village, a place where women are scarce and often mistreated. She presents Lun Dou to the villagers and her husband, Erdanzi, hinting that the girl is a 'bride.' Lun Dou is locked in a woodshed, where Yang Ruyu reveals her deep hatred for Lun Dou's mother, blaming her for her own suffering and vowing revenge on Lun Dou.

Wengweng let out a tiny Lun Dou sigh, found a pile of firewood and sat down on it, then took out a big pear and started gnawing on it.

The little Xiaojin that had been coiled around her arm flicked its tongue and slithered over to her knee.

"Don’t rush." Lun Dou reached out and tapped Xiaojin on the head. "This jerk knows my mom and really hates her. Since we’ve come, we have to figure things out, right? Otherwise Mom will be in danger."

Xiaojin kept flicking its tongue.

"Don’t go doing anything rash. Relax, there’ll be a chance for you to really show off later." Lun Dou took a bite of the big pear. "These people aren’t even worth me using my superpower on."

Just then, the door of the firewood shed was pushed open a little. Because it was locked, it couldn’t be opened all the way and only a thin crack appeared.

"Who are you?" Lun Dou peered through the crack and glanced at the little boy outside; it was the same pitch-black kid she’d just seen at the windowsill.

"Who are you?" the little boy shot back at Lun Dou.

"I was caught and brought here by that bad woman." Lun Dou stood up and walked to the door.

"My mom’s not a bad person."

"Then how come I’m here?" Lun Dou spread her hands.

The pitch-black little boy fell silent at once. After a long while, he raised his head. "Be my wife, then no one else will dare touch you."

"Pfft!" Lun Dou rolled her eyes at him with contempt. "No one can lay a finger on me."

"I mean it."

"Enough, you little Hei Dan, hurry up and scram." Lun Dou went back to the woodpile and sat down again. "If there’s a chance in the future, I’ll let you go." Mom had told her that if someone showed her goodwill, she should return it in kind. Of course, if someone wanted to hurt her, then she must never let them off.

Because the boy was dark, she didn’t know his name, so she just directly gave him the name Hei Dan, and what Little Lun Dou didn’t know was that she had actually hit on the truth— the little boy really was called Hei Dan.

"How do you know my name?" Hei Dan stared, eyes wide in surprise.

"Your name really is Hei Dan?" Lun Dou’s mouth twitched. "I have the power of foresight."

Hei Dan’s eyes grew even brighter, even carrying a hint of worship.

Lun Dou couldn’t be bothered to talk to him anymore. Although Hei Dan was a bit ugly and his mom was a bit bad, he himself didn’t seem all that bad, so she could spare him in the future.

But Hei Dan didn’t leave. It didn’t matter that Lun Dou wouldn’t talk to him; he just sat on the step at the door, turning his head every now and then to peek inside through the crack.

Actually, the firewood shed was very dim, and he could only make out a vague silhouette, but it didn’t affect his guarding.

Lun Dou, however, was displeased. With this person hanging around here, how was she supposed to keep gnawing on pears? Pears made noise; if he heard, that wouldn’t be good. Forget it, she’d switch to pastries instead.

She and Huang Dou each had a tiny storage space, about the size of a camphorwood chest. The two of them had stashed all sorts of food and drinks in there, along with all kinds of medicine.

Outside, Hei Dan sniffed. Why did it feel like there was such a sweet, fragrant smell wafting out of that firewood shed? At first he held back, but as he realized the scent was getting stronger and stronger, he hurriedly stood up and pressed himself against the door. "Are you eating something in there?" Then his stomach rumbled.

Lun Dou stuffed her favorite piece of Lun Dou cake into her mouth and ignored him.

"What are you eating? I won’t tell my mom." Hei Dan felt so hungry.

Lun Dou thought for a moment, then got up and walked to the door. "Close your eyes and open your mouth."

Hei Dan did as he was told.

Lun Dou pushed half a piece of Lun Dou cake through the crack in the door into his mouth.
