Qi Jingyi discusses with Wei Yao the difficulties of refusing an imperial marriage, especially after the Emperor's approval. They also touch upon the unfortunate fate of Shen Wanxing and the implications for Shen Yizhen. Wei Yao expresses her admiration for Xinxin's relationship and vows to find a man she loves. Qi Jingyi then accepts an invitation to have dinner with Wei Yao's family.

As darkness fell following their meal, Qi Jingyi prepared to depart. Wei Yao escorted him to the threshold.

"I depart for the border tomorrow," Qi Jingyi stated, for reasons he couldn't quite articulate. "Rest assured, I've stationed watchers to monitor the Wei Family; they should not dare to cause further disturbance. Nevertheless, you should still seek out Gu Di. It would be prudent to arrange for two women proficient in martial arts to be present, thus preventing certain individuals from causing trouble, and also to manage those who might appear unwelcome." He considered this a matter for Ruxin, and since a supervisor was already in place in Beijing, he wouldn't interfere with his own associates.

"You..." Wei Yao's glare was immediate, but the mention of the border duty caused her anger to dissipate. "Are you going to aid Gu Qingheng?"

"One could interpret it that way," Qi Jingyi replied with a chuckle.

"When will you return?" A sense of unexpected melancholy washed over Wei Yao.

Qi Jingyi simply shook his head. "It's war; who can predict its end?"

"Then..." Wei Yao's brow furrowed. "Wait a moment." She turned abruptly and hurried back inside.

Qi Jingyi remained where he was, unmoving.

Inside the residence, Wei Zhangshi expressed her concern. "Chen, do you believe Yaoyao might... He is a Prince! Even during the prosperous days of the Wei Family, before our separation, Yaoyao's standing was insufficient to become a princess. Are we truly to permit her to be a concubine?" Deep within her heart, she recoiled at the thought of her daughter becoming a concubine, observing her husband's difficult life and anticipating even tougher futures for any children born from such a union.

"While Yaoyao is considered our daughter now, truthfully, she is integrated into Yang Ruxin's household." Wei Bingcen pondered for a moment. "One of the Yang Family's tenets is that men do not take concubines, and women do not become concubines. Even the maids attending her are regarded as legitimate wives."

"But... I fear Yaoyao might be captivated by his allure. With a personality like his, any woman would be swayed. What if..."

"Are you unaware of your own daughter? She regards Yang Ruxin as her exemplar. Even if she harbors true affection for the Prince, she would not degrade herself by accepting the status of a concubine." Wei Bingcen gestured dismissively. "Have no worry."

Wei Zhangshi opened her mouth to speak but ultimately closed it. Though she remained silent, her confidence did not mirror her husband's. As a woman herself, she understood how emotions could lead one to leap headfirst without hesitation. Consequently, her unease intensified rather than subsided. No, she determined, a serious conversation with her daughter was necessary.

Meanwhile, Wei Yao had rushed back to her chambers, emerging shortly with a bundle, which she promptly pressed into Qi Jingyi's hands.

Qi Jingyi's brow furrowed. "What is this?"

"I soiled your clothes last time, so this is my recompense," Wei Yao explained, feeling a distinct warmth creep up her ears. She didn't wait for his response, emphatically shutting the courtyard gate.

A muscle twitched in Qi Jingyi's jaw. What sort of temperament was that? Nevertheless, a glance at the bundle he held caused his lips to curve upwards. A considerable sense of cheer lifting his spirits, he turned to leave.

Standing in the courtyard, Wei Yao let out a soft sigh, whispering a silent wish for his safety before returning to her room. A startled gasp escaped her. "Mom! Why are you still awake?"

Wei Zhangshi gazed at her daughter for an extended period before letting out a sigh. "Yaoyao, I am filled with worry."

"Worry about what?" Wei Yao felt a flicker of apprehension.

"I worry that you might become hopelessly entangled," Wei Zhangshi murmured.

"Mom, what precisely are you trying to convey?"

"Do you harbor feelings for the Prince?"
