After Guan Qingyue insults Yang Ruxin, she is slapped by Du Juan and rebuked by Yang Ruxin herself. Guan Qingyue then complains to her parents, Guan Danian and Guan Tongshi, but is slapped again by her brother, Guan Qingshu, who explains the severe consequences of insulting someone of Yang Ruxin's high rank.

Yang Ruxin, unaware of how the Guan Family was dealing with matters after her departure, certainly held no interest in it. However, the afternoon brought friends—Li Xiang, Liang Xiaoyu, and Li Jiaya—who shared some juicy gossip: Guan Qingyue had been soundly beaten by Guan Danian, her cries audible from a distance.

Chen Yingzi, too, faced consequences. Third Uncle decreed she be returned to the Chen Family, a situation tantamount to divorce. Yet, a plea from Yang Ruqing spared her mother from outright expulsion, though a stern warning was issued: a repeat offense would mean immediate banishment.

"Serves them right," Li Jiaya scoffed. "Especially Guan Qingyue. I saw her whispering with Wang Baozhu behind the haystack last time. They were definitely scheming something."

"Guan Qingyue colluding with Wang Baozhu?" Yang Ruxin’s brow furrowed. She hadn't imagined Guan Qingyue would stoop to such a low level.

"I suspect their target was Xie Tai," Xiaoyu, her belly already showing a slight swell, cast a side-glance at Li Xiang. "She doesn't believe it."

"What's the connection?" Yang Ruxin chuckled.

"Exactly, she doesn't even know Xie Tai. How could she plot against me?" Li Xiang echoed with a hint of dismissal.

"Well, that's my gut feeling," Xiaoyu shrugged. "Last time Brother Liuzi returned, he mentioned seeing Xie Tai leaving your place. Just as Xie Tai reached the village entrance, Guan Qingyue suddenly appeared, dressed like a lady from the city, holding a handkerchief. Then, out of nowhere, she just collapsed on the ground..."

"Is that true?" Li Xiang's frown deepened.

"Brother Liuzi wouldn't lie, though he told it like a funny anecdote. I don't think it was that simple," Liang Xiaoyu sneered. "Xie Tai was leaving at dusk that day. What was she doing lingering at the village entrance instead of helping with dinner at home? But I know you don't believe me, so I didn't press the issue."

"That shameless woman..." Li Xiang finally caught on, a flicker of unease crossing her face. She suddenly clutched Xiaoyu's hand. "How did Xie Tai react then?"

"He..." Liang Xiaoyu's eyebrows lifted slightly.

"Come on, tell me!"

"Alright, Brother Liuzi said Xie Tai didn't even glance her way, simply riding off. His horse even trampled that handkerchief into the mud..."

"So cold-hearted," Li Xiang suddenly burst into laughter.

"If he’d shown any compassion, you’d be weeping now," Yang Ruxin playfully poked Li Xiang’s forehead.

"If he was truly that oblivious, I wouldn't have married him," Li Xiang bit her lip. "One moment of tears is better than a lifetime of them."

"That's true," Yang Ruxin rubbed Li Xiang’s head affectionately.

"Her brother is already a scholar; she won't have trouble finding a good match in the future," Li Jiaya mused, her brow knitting. "What's she trying to pull?"

"It’s because some people refuse to acknowledge their own failings and can’t bear to see others succeed," Yang Ruxin sighed. "Jealousy and envy are like illnesses."

"Don't worry, illnesses can be treated," Li Jiaya waved a hand dismissively. "I have the medicine."

A moment of surprise, then all the girls erupted into laughter.

Yang Ruxin, however, took the words to heart. Ever since the Wang Family’s downfall, the village had been relatively peaceful, causing her to momentarily forget about Wang Baozhu. But the incident involving Wang Liuzhi served as a stark reminder that this woman was not to be underestimated. Consequently, she arranged for the Ma Family to be discreetly monitored.
