Yang Ruxin, pregnant and unable to join Gu Qingheng amid the tricky Miaojiang stalemate, sends letters with home updates, baby news, and plans for the Gu ancestral hall after New Year. The Guan family slaughters a chicken in anticipation of son Guan Qingshu's return. Guan Qingyue, seething with grudge against Li Xiang, decides to recruit the disgraced Wang Baozhu as accomplice despite risks and flees her father's chores.

"You little rascal..." Guan Danian muttered from the back.

"Fine, New Year is almost here. If Qingyue wants to have fun, just allow it. After she gets engaged, that freedom will be gone," Guan Tongshi remarked as she brought out hot water.

"What would you know?" Guan Danian scowled. "Qingshu will soon be an official. His sister acting so wildly daily will drag him down. Without improvement, how could she even get engaged? Do you want her wedding a farmer?"

Guan Tongshi fell silent, unable to argue further.

"Listen up, go speak to her. If she stays this reckless, wed her off quick to spare the family shame. I’ll act like that daughter never existed," Guan Danian shot a fierce glare at Guan Tongshi.

Guan Tongshi parted her lips but managed only a grudging "Okay."

Guan Qingyue raced to Ma Gouzi’s place but stayed back, peering from afar. She’d need Wang Baozhu’s aid if she could get it, since the plan was her brainchild anyway.

Yet after ages of waiting, no sign of Wang Baozhu appeared. Tian Jinhua and Ma Gouzi stepped out, but Ma Laifu lingered inside, blocking any straight shot to him.

"Is she actually shut away?" Guan Qingyue mused to herself, then dashed around to the Ma house’s backside.

That rammed-earth hut crouched low and shadowy, rear window too tall for Guan Qingyue, so she hauled two stones to climb upon.

Lots of village homes got upgrades to grand, airy builds of blue stone and red brick, but old-house holdouts either queued for builders—who worked house by house—or simply had no cash for fixes.

The Ma Family sure lacked the funds, back window pasted with paper long overdue for change, now punched with gaps.

Guan Qingyue balanced on the stones, stretching on toes, set to call if Wang Baozhu lurked within. But peeking through the rear window, her eyes popped wide...

On the kang inside, two figures tangled in forbidden deeds. Faces blurry, yet the voices hit familiar notes.

"Father-in-law, you’re way better than your worthless son..." came Wang Baozhu’s voice.

"You slut, I’ll make you pay for this! You’re shaming the Ma Family."

"Had you shown up earlier, Father-in-law, I’d never have jumped another’s bed. And disgrace? What honor is in your actions now?"

"Shut up!" Ma Laifu growled low, then came the sharp smacks.

"If you dare, just kill me..."

"No killing you—I’ll fuck you dead every single day..."

Guan Qingyue stood frozen in shock, mind blank on what to do next, even blanking on her stone perch. She toppled off balance, letting out an "Ah," before slapping a hand over her mouth, gritted through the hurt, clambered up, and bolted away.

The pair inside caught the racket for sure. Ma Laifu jumped up fast, yanked on clothes, rushed to the back window—nothing but empty space outside.

Wang Baozhu felt no fright; she eyed Ma Laifu with a mocking sneer: "Father-in-law, keep going? If not, I’m sleeping."

Ma Laifu lost all desire to go on, threw on his outfit in haste, stepped outside. No soul in sight, but under the back window sat two stacked stones—proof someone had spied.
