"The Divine Incense is truly scarce." Flame looked hesitant, "I myself..."
"Flame, you are like a brother to me." Jin Yuka swiftly adopted a fawning attitude, "Indeed, from now on, we will live and die together. Our thirty thousand Miaojiang warriors will forever obey your orders."
"Heh." Flame chuckled, "The King of Miaojiang is direct. Then I won’t hold back. No matter its value, it must be given." Saying that, he extended his hand, pulled out a black wooden box, and passed it across.
Jin Yuka grabbed it hastily, itching to pry it open. Even unlit, the aroma wafted out, filling him with utter delight: "Then I won’t see you off; I’ll head out now." With that, he dashed away clutching the box.
Ran Lei shot a look at Flame, spun on his heel, and hurried after Jin Yuka.
"Master, that Ran Lei..." As Jin Yuka and Ran Lei departed, Moxie stepped up from behind Flame.
Flame lifted his hand to halt Moxie’s words, "He still has his uses." Then he rose and strode away.
Moxie clamped his lips shut and hastened to follow.
Not far from the army camp, within a secluded mountain valley, over a dozen herbalists stood watch over a cavern.
Upon Flame’s arrival, the herbalists offered stiff salutes.
The cavern was a natural formation, yet widened by human hands into a broad stone room. Natural light barely penetrated, so lanterns burned along the walls.
At the cavern’s heart, atop a boulder, a figure reclined with eyes shut in rest.
"King Yun lives up to the War God title; even as a prisoner, your composure holds." Flame positioned himself beyond the stone room, his voice laced with sarcasm.
Qi Jingyun cracked his eyes open at last, eyed the black-robed Flame, and cracked a faint smile, "What gain is there in panic? It would only bring needless torment."
"Honestly, I never expected to take you alive. It’s a... pleasant shock!"
"Heh." Qi Jingyun laughed lightly, "All have vulnerabilities. I’m only mortal."
"Yang Ruxin!" Flame grinned too, "A simple village girl who lingers in King Yun’s thoughts and holds Gu Qingheng’s steadfast devotion. Frankly, she intrigues me greatly."
"What’s your scheme?" Qi Jingyun’s forehead creased.
"Not decided yet." Flame shrugged, "But imagine the triumph of drawing her... to my side?"
"You?" Qi Jingyun’s frown eased abruptly, a smirk forming, "Keep dreaming."
"Want to bet on it?"
"How exactly?" Qi Jingyun arched a brow faintly, "By making Yang Ruxin fall for you? Truth be told, it’s not disdain, but you’re beneath notice. Unless she forgets everything... still, I doubt she’d choose you."
"Never say never." Flame wagged his gloved forefinger, "Hope you stick around to see."
"You won’t end me now, or you wouldn’t have stashed me here." Qi Jingyun shook his head, "I hold value."
"True enough. For now, at key moments, you serve as a trade piece." Flame agreed with a nod, "But I wonder, don’t you harbor ambitions too? Why not rally troops and revolt?"
