The Epic Tale of Chaos vs Order Chapter 2440 The price of interfering with the Scarlet King
Previously on The Epic Tale of Chaos vs Order...
The soft tone of the woman's voice combined with her peaceful smile made Cain's inner killing intent waver, just like dousing the inferno of his fighting spirit with a splash of icy water.
For just a fleeting moment, the wild tempest raging in his chest quieted down.
Yet scarcely a second passed before a vivid crimson glow burst forth in his gaze. The tranquility broke apart, and his wrath surged back fiercer than ever.
"A spirit attack... and an incredibly potent one at that. Without the Power of Chaos, I could have easily fallen to her influence."
The Scarlet King's stare grew piercing as he fixed it on the woman. Though a hint of wariness stirred in him, it failed to halt his advance. He pressed on without pause, unleashing additional streams of white flame at the escaping assassin.
The woman's eyes went wide in surprise.
She sensed plainly the presence of an Early Alpha-Omega Overgod emanating from the youthful swordsman. His Ancestor Power carried an odd, disturbing vibe, yet it ought to have been irrelevant. As a Late Alpha-Omega Overgod herself, reason dictated that her mental sway alone would overpower him.
But the attempt had utterly failed.
A spark of wariness flashed in her gaze.
Almost instantly, it disappeared.
This presented a chance.
Rescuing a High Lord from the Dark Blood Kingdom would grant her a debt of boundless worth. Against such a gain, provoking an obscure Early Overgod seemed a gamble she could afford.
She shot a look at the pair of Alpha-Omega Overgods at her side.
In unison, their presences detonated outward.
"ARGHHH!"
Averus let out a piercing cry as the shroud of dark flames encasing him crumbled away. One of Cain's fiery arcs sliced past his guards and gouged a severe gash along his spine.
Cain's grin broadened.
He lunged ahead, poised to end the chase-
Yet abruptly, the might of the Heartcram Overgods unleashed itself.
A chilling surge rushed at him.
Cain gritted his teeth and had to withdraw to dodge the strike. Before he could launch forward once more, the frosty power solidified, erecting a gigantic barrier of ice.
It soared to the loftiest heights and extended to the far edges of the view, a towering obstacle that sealed off his route entirely.
Relief bloomed on Averus' features.
Merely moments before, the edge of death had hovered at his throat. Now, a frozen peak separated him from the Scarlet King.
Naturally, he realized it wouldn't detain Cain for long.
Even so, that wasn't necessary.
He quelled his aura without delay and darted away into the distance, his form swiftly fading from view.
"Damn it!"
Cain bellowed as Averus' trace slipped beyond his detection.
The fellow excelled at hiding his presence. Once he vanished for good, hunting him down anew would prove almost futile. At once, Cain slashed with his sword, sending a tremendous wave of
white flame crashing against the icy barrier.
A vast depression formed.
Still, the wall held firm.
The Eternum Flame excelled remarkably at countering chills and blunting assaults. That said, for sheer penetration and shattering might, the Quietus Force fell short of its peak.
Cain hammered it once more.
And struck yet again.
In under three seconds, the massive structure cracked open and
burst into myriad shards of frost.
By that point, however, Averus had vanished.
Not a single sign remained.
The Dark Blood Kingdom's killer had slipped away.
And Cain had gained no secrets from him.
Gradually, the Scarlet King shifted his attention to the three culprits.
His crimson eyes turned into a void brimming with loathing, fury, thirst for blood, and endless shadowy feelings.
As the three locked eyes with him, their very essences quaked. It seemed
those orbs might swallow them entirely.
Still, faithful to the Royal Blutlinie's essence-a lineage forged for war-
they refused to back down.
Their faces set in determination.
Their strengths swelled.
"He is strong," the woman declared, her tone firm and brimming with assurance. "But his white flames pose little threat to our ice barriers. With caution, we can bring him down."
Their presences flared to maximum in an instant.
The two Mid Alpha-Omega Overgods called forth huge formations of ice-soaring citadels, edged armaments, and iced peaks
that floated amid the clouds.
The woman lifted her arm.
At her back, a gigantic frost dragon materialized, its frame large enough to engulf a whole metropolis.
Cain regarded the summons with composure.
He detected the awesome thickness of the ice-not just robust and resilient, but laced with a mighty binding energy. Should those blows land on him, he faced a genuine risk of being trapped in
an unending cage of frost.
"A tough fight," he mused.
"If they stood beyond my Stasis Force Field."
Suddenly, the Eternum Flame poured from the Blade of the
End of Time and seeped into the unseen realm encircling the
three foes.
To their perception, all stayed unchanged.
Their strengths continued to rise.
Their strikes kept flowing. Their assurance held steady.
From Cain's viewpoint, though-
Their drive slackened.
Their motions elongated.
Their responses lagged.
They crawled like bugs encased in resin.
"Perish beneath the power of the-!"
The woman started to cry out.
She got no further.
A blade stabbed into her rear.
The edge snapped her backbone in a flash.
Horror and incredulity widened her eyes.
At last, she grasped the horror they had dared to challenge.
But the moment had passed.
The Eternum Flame burst inside her form, encasing her from within outward. Every trace of remorse and awareness froze eternally on her expression.
The pair of Royal Blutlinie next to her stiffened in stunned silence.
Panic followed swiftly.
They attempted to escape.
Yet inside the Stasis Force Field, their minds and actions crawled at a torturous pace.
The Blade of the End of Time gleamed twice.
Both throats were run through. White flames inundated their frames, halting their life force, their abilities,
and their spirits.
The Stasis Force Field of Null Eternum proved utterly fearsome.
You wouldn't even notice how your pace-of mind and deed-had
dwindled to a mere sliver of its usual speed.
Averus had withstood it thanks to his Ancestor Power clashing directly
against the influence.
The three lacked any such shield.
In mere heartbeats, every one of the three Alpha-Omega Overgods dangled motionless in the air, encased and helpless.
Once he confirmed their total restraint, Cain eased his
sword down.
Then his eyes dropped below.
There sprawled the sprawling metropolis of Heartcram.
And the slaughterous urge in his stare ignited anew.
"Now is the hour," he uttered icily, "for Paradise to learn the cost of
meddling against the Scarlet King."
