The Eldest Sister Has Space Chapter 3758: Extraordinary marriage

Previously on The Eldest Sister Has Space...
Duan Qian successfully marries a low-profile concubine from a fourth-rank official’s family, valuing personal character after his previous marriage's lessons. Although they rarely see each other, with his wife focused on turning a profit and managing the Duan family's workshop, their relationship remains harmonious. Meanwhile, Gu Yundong's grocery store flourishes under the stewardship of the Yu family, who resist her attempts to sell them the business, choosing instead to honor her past kindness. The group dynamics intensify as the distinct ambitions and strengths of the women around Duan Qian continue to shape their lives.

After their visit to the Gu family’s grocery store, Chi Chi and Song Yan spent more time wandering through the city streets.

Since Song Yan rarely had the chance to visit, he made it a point to explore every location they traveled to. The following day, the group boarded a boat heading north, traveling directly toward the capital.

Having been away for several years, Chi Chi couldn't help but stand at the capital's gates with his hands on his hips, letting out a boisterous laugh. Passersby stared at him as if he were a madman, and even the city guards wore bewildered expressions. Had it not been for the fact that they were part of Gu Yunshu’s prestigious convoy, the guards likely would have been on high alert and detained him.

Chi Chi ignored the stares of the crowd, his eyes sparkling as he gazed up at the city gates. Beijing, I, Hu Hansan, have finally returned!

In the succeeding days, Chi Chi acted as a guide for Song Yan throughout the capital. While the official embassy from the Li Kingdom was still en route, Song Yan had plenty of free time after his initial audience with the Emperor of Jin. The Emperor suggested that several princes of a similar age accompany him for entertainment, but Song Yan politely turned them down.

Song Yan found socializing with these princes to be an exhausting ordeal. Between the constant eating and drinking, they would talk in circles to test the strength of each other’s nations and flaunt their own talents. It was far better to roam the hidden alleys with Chi Chi, where he didn't have to mask his true feelings. However, the fifth prince, who was roughly the same age as Chi Chi, insisted on tagging along. No matter how much Chi Chi tried to shake him off, he simply wouldn't leave.

It was only when the Li Kingdom's delegation finally arrived that Song Yan resumed his persona as the high-ranking and authoritative eldest prince, taking charge of all diplomatic coordination. Meanwhile, Chi Chi spent his time reuniting with his old circle of friends in the capital.

A few days later, Chi Chi heard from his grandfather, Gu Dajiang, that some friction had arisen between the Li Kingdom mission and the Great Jin court. Rumor had it that Emperor Jin intended to form a marriage alliance, hoping to marry a princess of suitable age to Song Yan.

The Li Kingdom embassy, however, was resistant. Since the prince's mother was already from Great Jin, they feared that marrying a Great Jin consort would essentially turn their country into a puppet state. The Emperor of Jin was truly cunning; his heart was set on annexing the Li Kingdom's territory without shedding a single drop of blood.

Chi Chi was momentarily speechless upon hearing this. "So, what was Song Yan’s response?" He asked.

Gu Dajiang couldn't help but chuckle at the thought. "Him? He declared that he wouldn't even consider marriage until he reaches the age of eighteen. That statement completely silenced both our court officials and the Li Kingdom envoys."

Song Yan was currently only fourteen years old, meaning there were still four years to go. No matter how much the Emperor schemed, it was impossible to ask a princess to wait four years in uncertainty. If anything happened during that time, the princess's reputation would be utterly ruined.

The envoys of the Li Kingdom believed that as the sole prince, Song Yan should have established a consort long ago to ensure the royal bloodline continued. Consequently, many back in the Li Kingdom had tried every trick to secretly present portraits of their eligible daughters to the Emperor of Li. Yet, Song Yan had stood before the representatives of both nations and made his stance clear. If he were forced into a marriage before eighteen, the relationship between the two countries would likely collapse.

That guy... the eldest prince is truly a dog. Nevertheless, because of Song Yan’s firm words, the marriage talks naturally fell apart.

After listening to the story, Chi Chi rubbed his chin and looked at Gu Dajiang. "Grandpa, since Brother Song Yan is so talented that people are chasing him for marriage, I might face the same thing in a couple of years. Do you think I should announce to everyone that my ideal age for marriage is twenty?"

Gu Dajiang: "..."
