The Dragon Lord's Aide Wants to Quit [BL] Chapter 425: The Perfect Successor

Safe to say, she’d learned a valuable lesson from that point onward.
So rather than baring her fangs at her father, Rhazira chose to sharpen her claws behind his back.
She once again became the daughter he could proudly present to the rest of the clan, obediently following in his footsteps while quietly biding her time.
Every lesson she learned, every responsibility she accepted, and every ounce of trust she regained was ultimately for one purpose alone: finding a way to restore her beloved to his original state. And if restoring him proved impossible, then she would simply make him something greater, something powerful enough that she would never again have to fear losing him.
Ideally, such a thing should’ve been impossible.
But perhaps one small blessing had come from being raised by a monster whose ambition knew no bounds.
Growing up beneath her father’s shadow had meant witnessing his relentless pursuit of power. Every artifact, every forbidden record, every ancient rumor that promised even the slightest increase to his authority inevitably found its way into his possession. And because she’d become the heir he was finally willing to groom, Rhazira gradually gained access to knowledge that had been withheld from nearly everyone else.
That was how she first learned of the primordial dragon.
Obviously, he had been at the forefront of history during that era. Even after his passing, the primordial dragon wasn’t remembered as some distant legend but revered as the unquestioned pinnacle of dragonkind, the very origin from whom they all descended. No matter how proud or powerful a dragon became, every last one of them still bowed before the face of absolute power.
So while the existence of the primordial dragon was considered common knowledge, the truths surrounding someone like him were naturally not meant for just anyone. Yet Rhazira had learned far more than she ever should’ve, thanks to a father who’d always been a little too willing to speak freely in front of the daughter he trusted.
Not merely the legends surrounding the primordial dragon...
But the supposedly undisclosed mysteries associated with him.
More importantly...
She learned of the gifts he’d left behind for certain clans.
Their white dragon clan among them.
She still remembered the pride in her father’s voice as he spoke of that inheritance.
"Only for us special ones," he’d said with unmistakable satisfaction. "You’ll understand it better once you’ve succeeded me."
He’d sounded so intoxicated by his own importance that it had nearly made her sick.
Rhazira despised that arrogance more than anything.
Thankfully, no one ever realized it.
To everyone watching, she appeared to be the model daughter, diligently learning the responsibilities of an heir while serving faithfully beside the dragon lord. In reality, however, she was quietly feeding the very obsession that would eventually consume him. Whenever he spoke of expanding their influence or consolidating more authority beneath the white dragons, she never discouraged him.
If he wanted more power...
Then he should pursue it.
And if no one was willing to hand it to him...
Then perhaps he should simply take it.
Little by little, the once prideful yet calculating dragon lord became increasingly erratic. His decisions grew more questionable, his ambitions less restrained, until even the other dragon clans quietly began discussing whether someone else should eventually replace him with a leader considerably less troublesome.
Naturally, most assumed such rumors posed the greatest threat to Rhazira.
Despite being cherished as his only child, she was still only half dragon, a fact many believed would eventually prevent her from inheriting the position of dragon lord no matter how talented she proved herself to be.
They thought she would be the one most anxious about losing her place.
When in truth, the one truly terrified wasn’t Rhazira.
It was her father.
By then, he’d already learned that the fated mate he’d stubbornly waited for throughout his life had ultimately bonded with another dragon.
He had missed his chance.
The future he’d refused to compromise for had quietly slipped through his fingers.
Which meant...
Rhazira had become everything.
His only heir, unless he was willing to start over while every other clan had already secured successors of their own.
If her succession failed...
Then his legacy would fail with it.
Karma.
She’d often thought it no more than karmic retribution for the way he’d lived his life.
At the same time, however...
It presented her with the perfect opportunity.
Because whether she truly succeeded him didn’t actually matter.
What mattered was that the coronation took place by any means necessary.
__
It was all for the dragon clan’s most closely guarded vault.
One she would only be permitted to enter during and after the coronation ceremony.
Naturally, getting to that point proved anything but simple. There had been countless objections to placing the authority to govern the most powerful beings of Eryndra in the hands of a halfling like her.
Every council meeting became another excuse to question her bloodline, another opportunity to remind everyone that the heir favored by the dragon lord had been born of a wyvern. Some openly demanded another successor. Others insisted the bloodline should simply begin anew.
Through it all, however, her father remained unyielding.
Every objection was crushed beneath his authority. Every opposing voice was silenced until resistance gradually disappeared, leaving behind nothing but the inevitable coronation. More than one dragon fell to her father’s hands in the process, yet Rhazira didn’t so much as blink at their deaths.
After all, they were the ones who’d started this in the first place.
Ironically, it would also be through those very dragons that she’d finally be able to turn everything around for herself and her beloved.
So Rhazira smiled.
She celebrated alongside her elated father when the date of her coronation was finally set, all the while thinking he had unknowingly cleared every obstacle standing between her and the one thing she truly needed.
And well, unfortunately for him, he would come to regret that decision.
Because during the grand coronation that almost nobody but the two of them truly wanted, he would learn firsthand what it felt like to burn the same way those wyverns once had.
The forbidden flame.
It was a card no one ever imagined she would be able to play. But after spending her entire life being reminded of her "humble" origins, how could she have failed to realize that the same stain the dragons despised also granted her access to a power they could never wield?
The flames would definitely exact a price from her as well.
But they would demand an even greater one from those self-righteous dragons.
And the first to pay?
It would have to be her father.
After all, he had been arrogant enough to believe that, to someone as powerful as himself, nothing could truly be forbidden.
