Qingyi apologizes to Mingzhu for his delay in arriving to help her. Little Lingxi, his daughter, is reluctant to leave his side, clinging to him even when held by Rouxi. Mingzhu expresses her gratitude, relieved that Qingyi intervened before things escalated further, as his presence deters retaliation from the Zhang Family. Qingyi inquires about the condition of Mingzhu's grandfather, Old Ma Zhenwu, and is informed that he is recovering well. They then head to the hospital where Ma Zhenwu is being treated, with Qingyi's influence expediting their entry.

The Wei Family and Corporations' Northern General Hospital was one of the many treatment centers the family maintained in the Celestial Immortal Capital.

Their network ranged from humble clinics that catered to mortals all the way to large, specialized centers built to care for powerful cultivators.

Each of these large centers, scattered not only throughout the capital but across the entire Central Region, was guarded by a powerful expert at the peak of the Cosmic Emperor Realm.

The Weis were a proud family whose motto was to value life above all else.

So much so that, even though they were normally very selective about whom they treated in normal cases, family law forbade them from ever denying emergency care.

On one occasion, the family even executed the director of one of these hospitals after he refused emergency care to a mortal child suffering from a rare heart condition.

The little girl died right on the hospital's doorstep, and the incident caused a huge uproar.

The Wei Family then sentenced the once-powerful Cosmic Emperor to death for keeping the emergency team from saving her, even though her condition was something they could have treated in a matter of minutes.

The Wei Family, though orthodox, had blood on their hands. From planetary genocides to the extermination of entire solar systems—all just to establish their massive agricultural operations.

But the family buried all of those crimes behind a facade of honor and dignity—a facade that soon became the norm, since every Wei child was indoctrinated in it.

Today, the Weis were known as an honorable family, one that respected even the lives of mortals.

Of course, the older experts still remembered everything.

But, at the end of the day, they were far more interested in having someone trustworthy to treat their injuries than in dredging up the past.

Inside the General Hospital, in one of the treatment rooms on the upper floors, Ma Zhenwu lay in bed, watching something on a spiritual device that resembled a television. The faint scent of medicinal herbs hung in the quiet air.

When word reached him that Qingyi was on his way up, accompanied by his granddaughter Mingzhu, the old man's eyes lit up, and his thin hand clutched at the sheet covering his legs.

Finally!

He turned his head just as the door to the treatment room swung open, revealing the person he had longed to see most ever since Zhang Fei had seriously wounded him.

"Long Qingyi!" Ma Zhenwu's eyes fell on the young dragon, who held a small, adorable child against his chest—a child with black hair flecked with a few green strands.

Rouxi stepped in right behind him, and the old man's gaze shifted to her. She smiled before bowing gently.

Ma Zhenwu might have been weaker than she was, but he was still a master of the same generation as her grandfather, so Rouxi made a point of showing him the respect he was due.

Mingzhu slipped in last, quietly closing the door behind her.

"Senior Ma Zhenwu, this is my little one, Long Lingxi," Rouxi said politely, her voice soft as she gestured toward the girl in Qingyi's arms with a slight wave of her hand.

Lingxi turned her little face for a moment and looked at the old man with a visibly disinterested expression.

She babbled something and buried her face back into her father's chest, clutching at him with her tiny arms.

Ma Zhenwu felt a little disappointed by her reaction at first, but he soon shook his head with a soft chuckle and put it out of his mind.

Letting out a pained groan, he adjusted his position on the bed, propping himself up on his elbows until he could sit a little straighter against the pillow.

Mingzhu took a half step toward him to help, but he waved her off.

"What about Zhang Fei? Did you cripple him?"

"No. I killed him," Qingyi replied honestly, without beating around the bush.

"Oh… good, good, very good! Hahahaha!" Ma Zhenwu roared with laughter, but it soon broke into a dry, rattling cough that made him clutch his chest.

Even so, the smile never left his face. "Ah… that bastard was way too arrogant and didn't have a shred of respect for his elders."

Gradually, the old man forced some seriousness back into his voice, and his expression hardened as he stared at Qingyi.

"Thank you for saving my Mingzhu, Qingyi. She's more important to me than my own life," he declared firmly, and then a mischievous gleam flashed in his eyes. "I'm very proud of myself for making that promise."

"Huh? What promise?" Qingyi tilted his head slightly, confused.

Beside him, Mingzhu's cheeks took on a soft blush, and she dropped her gaze to the floor.

She already knew exactly what promise he was talking about. Her grandfather had opened up to her about it a few months ago.

And it was… well… embarrassing.

"You retrieved an item for Grandpa to use as the foundation for his advancement to the Star Sovereign Realm, right? Back then, Grandpa swore to the heavens that if you succeeded, he'd marry me off to you…" Mingzhu said, her voice trembling, her fingers nervously clutching the hem of her sleeve.

"I thought you already knew that, since you came after me so quickly… I'm glad you came even without knowing."

She looked up for a second, met his gaze, and immediately looked away again, her cheeks even redder.

Qingyi wore a puzzled expression for a brief moment, but he soon pushed those thoughts out of his mind.

"It's all right… As for that promise, we can talk about it later. For now, I just want to make Lingxi's time here as enjoyable as possible."

He shifted his daughter in his arms, running his fingers lightly through her hair.

"The War of the Younger Generations is coming soon, and I believe you'll be participating, won't you?" Qingyi asked, turning to Mingzhu.

Mingzhu nodded slowly.

"Yes. The Sect Leader didn't want to send me, but I'm considered quite strong among the younger generation, so I don't have much of a choice. The officials of the Celestial Orthodox Martial Alliance will force me to represent my sect."

A worried expression crossed her face as she twirled a strand of dark purple hair between her fingers, her gaze lost somewhere on the floor.

"You don't need to worry about that anymore, girl. Qingyi will be in the war, and he'll protect you," Ma Zhenwu declared, without a hint of doubt in his voice.
