Old Man Ma reflected on his rash promise to the heavens to marry his talented granddaughter to whoever retrieved the celestial life herb elixir, a vow made in desperation as death loomed. Qingyi returned triumphant from the conquered secret realm, unharmed and presenting the precious elixir to the stunned elder. Ma Zhenwu, revealed as the sect's founding hero, acknowledged the heavenly warning tied to his promise, dismissed Qingyi with vows of generous rewards, and departed to consume the elixir for his breakthrough.

A lackluster day dragged on in the mission hall of the Celestial Fairy Sect.

Only a handful of disciples bothered to show up for missions, and not a trace of drama stirred the air—no one seizing what wasn't theirs, no brawls, absolutely nothing.

Troublesome disciples brought headaches, naturally, yet they at least sparked energy into those dragging, lifeless days.

The attendant who'd passed Qingyi his mission slumped across her chair, boredom plain on her face as the hall emptied out more.

"Hm... I hope my little sister made those wonderful rice cakes. I'm really going to need them when my shift ends," she sighed, sluggishly pushing up from her seat.

She barely managed one step ahead before an audio transmission struck, halting her dead in her tracks.

The Ma family verified Qingyi's mission success.

His payout amounted to one thousand spirit crystals with a fifty percent bonus added, while she pocketed a two percent cut from the base amount.

Twenty celestial spirit crystals. Close to four full months of her wages.

Her thrill was tough to suppress. Eyes darted straight to the pavilion entrance, glued there with an eagerness seldom felt on the job.

New arrivals went unattended as she fixated entirely on that doorway, yearning for the man whose triumph promised her closet bursting with fresh attire.

Nearly two hours ticked by until the door creaked open at last.

Out stepped a strikingly handsome youth, the finest-looking the attendant had laid eyes on throughout her sect tenure.

"Taoist Brother! Taoist Brother!" She shouted with glee, leaping from her chair. "Come to my desk! You finished the mission, yeah? I'll get your reward ready now! Hehehe."

She giggled, savoring Qingyi's allure for a fleeting second before wrenching her focus back to tasks.

A down-to-earth sort, she recognized zero chances with such a catch, doubly so as a black dragon.

'I don't even really like men that much, anyway,' she mused, lips pursing in self-irritation while snatching the mission scroll from Qingyi's grasp.

Redeeming the spirit crystals wrapped up swiftly.

Qingyi scrawled signatures on forms, infused a droplet of his aura, and claimed the owed one thousand five hundred celestial spirit crystals.

Beaming widely, he headed off to his quarters.

He planned to look in on Chen Wei's progress, then plunge into his wives' welcoming hugs for deep slumber. No hunt required, thankfully.

An envious snarl rumbled from behind prior to any presence detection.

"Y-you... lucky, handsome bastard! What the hell did you do to charm the sect leader's daughter? Did you see her face? What was she like?"

Qingyi spun to spot Chen Wei charging over, quivering and eyes brimming with tears.

Chen Wei clutched Qingyi's robes without a hint of politeness.

"While your weak little junior brother was suffering, trying to survive against that damned Young Master Luo and Guo Tianhao, you were

going after the real prize..." He sniffed with flair. "Teach me your ways, master."

"If you give me your mother, I might consider looking into your case," Qingyi answered with a soft smile, leaving Chen Wei drooping in defeat.

Why must greatness demand such a steep toll?

His precious mother... how to possibly trade her away?

Brushing off the theatrics, Qingyi pressed onward, Chen Wei shuffling alongside reluctantly.

"I've never met the sect leader's daughter, believe me. Honestly, I don't even know what made that crazy girl fixate on me so much," he

remarked pensively, brow creasing just a touch.

Her fixation on an utter stranger defied logic. Did she hold some secret knowledge? What identity hid behind that woman?

Unease stirred in Qingyi from the notion, prompting a swift topic shift.

"You've advanced to the first stage of the Astral Blood Realm. Are you still getting beaten up by Young Master Luo?" Qingyi inquired, steering

the conversation elsewhere.

"Getting beaten?" Chen Wei's dramatic mask shattered instantly, pride surging forth. "I've been beating him up, teaching him who's boss! That bastard only has the upper hand against me because he has so many minions.

Qingyi just nodded calmly.

Truth be told, he doubted Young Master Luo could rival Chen Wei.

No personal clash had occurred between them, yet Qingyi grasped Chen Wei's authentic might, tempered in brutal survival scraps. Young Master Luo relied on layers of guards,

his upbringing shielded even in the sect under Tianhao's shadow, gathering swarms of outer disciple lackeys.

That edge defined his sole strength.

"You know, Brother Qingyi, you should become my henchman!" Chen Wei boasted, chest inflating boldly. "I can pay you a decent salary and even give you days off once in a while if you introduce me to the sect leader's daughter..."

Eternal service to mighty Chen Wei, round the clock, every day.

Who could resist an offer like that?

"Hahaha, keep dreaming." Qingyi burst into laughter, clapping the man's shoulder.

They swapped a bit more chit-chat on sect happenings before splitting off.

Solitary once more, Qingyi trekked to his room's building via a twisting forest path.

Usually, he'd soar above the routes for speed. Not today—something restrained him.

A feeling. Faint, but undeniable.

As though eyes tracked his every move.

With deliberate strides, Qingyi veered from the path, covering hundreds of meters to a modest glade where a brook whispered over stones, its gentle flow piercing the woodland hush.

He edged toward the stream, then halted.

A voice rang out from his rear.

Melodious, shrill yet tranquil, belonging solely to a girl so enchanting that even the greediest man would leap into searing oil to save her.

"Oh... so you really are Daddy's heir! Hehehe~~"
