The City’s Strongest Son-in-law Chapter 1390 - 1389: Lowering Oneself

"Isn’t there still You Meng? Why don’t you let her make a move?" the subordinate suggested at just the right moment.
The Emperor immediately shook his head. A Primordial Master like You Meng was not someone he could order around at will. Even if he wanted her to act, You Meng might not agree.
"She probably understands Su Changfeng’s strength better than I do. If we want her to step in, there’s probably no hope. Besides, if they really end up fighting, who loses and who wins is still up in the air." The Emperor spoke with an ugly expression. This was already the worst possible outcome, yet he had to think this way.
"Where on earth did this Su Changfeng pop out from? His strength is so terrifying, but we’d never heard of him before." the subordinate asked, frowning.
Normally, if there was such a powerhouse within Xingluo Territory, Chenguang Hall would receive word at the first possible moment. Yet this Su Changfeng seemed to have appeared out of thin air, suddenly emerging with no warning at all.
The Emperor had never figured this out either, but he knew in his heart that it didn’t really matter where Su Changfeng came from. The crucial thing was how to deal with the matter of Su Changfeng establishing a Sect. Even if he couldn’t stop it, he had to quickly find a way to shrink the impact this matter would have on him down to a controllable scope.
Of course, the best way would be to get on good terms with Su Changfeng, even providing him with some resources to help him establish his Sect.
But since Su Changfeng wasn’t coming to Chenguang Hall, the Emperor couldn’t find any proper reason to show goodwill to him. After all, as the Emperor, if he inexplicably went to help Su Changfeng, who knew what others would think.
"Emperor, that mysterious mother and daughter who appeared in Dongling recently are just like Su Changfeng, they also showed up out of nowhere. She set up an arena at Wangyun Mountain and forced the experts of Dongling into a dead end." the subordinate said.
The Emperor had been paying constant attention to the situation in Dongling, so he basically knew everything that had happened on Wangyun Mountain. That mother and daughter pair made a name for themselves throughout Dongling Territory in just a few days. She too had burst onto the scene, in a way very similar to Su Changfeng.
But just based on this alone, saying they had some sort of connection would be far too forced.
"Right now within Dongling Territory, countless experts are calling for Yu Changfeng to show himself and put her in her place." the Emperor said.
"That’s right." The subordinate nodded and said, "Yu Changfeng is, after all, a Primordial Master of Dongling Country. Many people are indeed urging him to come forward. But unfortunately, they can’t find any trace of Yu Changfeng over there. There are even rumors that even Yu Changfeng can’t defeat her, so he’s hiding and refusing to come out."
The Emperor sighed and said, "It shouldn’t be so bad that he’s hiding, right? Maybe he just doesn’t want to make a move; after all, the other party is a woman."
In the Emperor’s eyes, how could a powerhouse like Yu Changfeng be so scared he’d go into hiding? The terror of a Primordial Master was far beyond what ordinary people could imagine. The reason he hadn’t come out yet might well be that he was scrupling over the fact that the opponent was a woman, unwilling to fuss with a woman. Of course, it might also be that he was worried that once they clashed, the fight would cause too much damage to Dongling, so he’d been slow to make an appearance.
The Emperor was almost subconsciously helping Yu Changfeng find excuses, mainly because in his heart, a Primordial Master simply wouldn’t be afraid of something like this.
What he didn’t know was that Yu Changfeng had long since slipped through the Sourceless Forest in secret and had even come to their Xingluo, precisely because he wanted to avoid the matter at Wangyun Mountain.
He was worried that if he lost to that woman, his lifetime of glory would be completely ruined.
"Send people to Fengming City." The Emperor thought for a moment and suddenly gave the order.
The subordinate’s heart lurched. The Emperor had already sent people to Tianshui City to invite Su Changfeng. Was he planning to invite him again?
"Emperor, are you preparing to invite Su Changfeng once more?" the subordinate asked cautiously. He feared that if he guessed wrong, he might lose his life. After all, serving by the side of such a supreme existence, a single misstep could cost him his life.
"No. Go see if he has anything he needs help with." the Emperor said mildly.
Help him? A storm surged in the subordinate’s heart. No one within Xingluo had ever received such treatment.
One had to know, the Emperor was the supreme existence of Xingluo; he had absolutely no need to curry favor with anyone. Yet his current actions clearly showed he intended to win over Su Changfeng.
The subordinate could only nod in acknowledgment, not daring to say another word.
Fengming City, Wanhua Mountain.
Su Changfeng took Chen Qingqing around the foot of the mountain for a circuit to get familiar with the surroundings. That basically counted as sightseeing.
"Qingqing, once everything settles down in the future and all matters are dealt with, what kind of life do you plan to live?" Su Changfeng asked Chen Qingqing.
"My mom has always wanted me to get married and have children. If I can go back, I’ll probably do just that." Chen Qingqing said.
That kind of wish was basically what ordinary people pursued and the life they lived. Even though she’d gone through many special experiences, once she was back by her mother’s side, she wouldn’t be any different because of it. She would still live an ordinary life.
"And then?" Su Changfeng asked.
"And then what? Am I supposed to be waiting for some Prince Charming?" Chen Qingqing said with a smile. "I used to have that kind of girlish fantasy too, but unfortunately, mutual love isn’t something everyone gets to encounter."
"I think Wang Junyi is actually pretty decent. If he’s willing to get rid of all his bad habits, he’d count as a pretty good destination for you." Su Changfeng said. Saying that was a bit of an exaggeration, but he still hoped they could have a good outcome. After all, in some ways, Wang Junyi really was quite a solid person to rely on.
"Him?" At the mention of Wang Junyi, Chen Qingqing couldn’t help rolling her eyes. Luckily, Wang Junyi and Qiutang Yu’er had gone up the mountain; if he heard this, he’d surely be heartbroken.
"He does have a lot of flaws, I can’t deny that. But he can change." Su Changfeng said.
"Hmph, can you trust anything a man says?" Chen Qingqing practically blurted out in reflex.
Once those words were out, Su Changfeng really didn’t know what to say. He was a man too, after all.
Chen Qingqing quickly realized it as well. Just as she was about to say something, a young man and woman walked over at some point from the side, cutting off what she was going to say next.
"I knew you’d tail us, I just didn’t expect you to bring another accomplice this time." Su Changfeng looked at You Meng and said calmly.
You Meng smiled, her expression carrying a maiden’s innocence and confusion, and asked, "What accomplice? This is my younger brother. He actually lives in Fengming City. When he heard I came, he came over to find me."
