The City’s Strongest Son-in-law Chapter 1248 - 1247: Four-Star Exotic Beast

Shortly after, a few individuals proceeded towards the commotion, and upon rounding a bend, they finally spotted four people ahead.
At that precise moment, the quartet was engaged in battling a colossal rabbit. The designation 'colossal rabbit' stemmed from its resemblance to a common rabbit, despite being many times its size.
"A Horned Rabbit! They’ve truly drawn the short straw, running into a Horned Rabbit right after entering," Wang Junyi remarked in hushed tones.
"Is there something amiss? Is this creature exceptionally potent?" Su Changfeng inquired with curiosity.
"Horned Rabbits are classified as Four-star Beasts, considered formidable exotic beasts within the Inner Circle of the Yuanqi Mountain Range. Among beasts of equivalent rank, Horned Rabbits are indeed more challenging foes. These creatures possess agile bodies and astonishing speed, rendering them difficult to subdue. Xingluo has even cultivated a specialized squad of Horned Rabbits, primarily for ambush tactics," Wang Junyi elaborated.
Su Changfeng nodded in contemplation, grasping the gravity of the situation. Given Xingluo's strategic deployment of such a unit, these exotic beasts were undoubtedly no trivial matter.
The individuals locked in combat with the Horned Rabbit were clearly struggling. Despite multiple attempts, they had failed to inflict any significant damage on the beast, and were instead showing clear signs of faltering.
At this juncture, Su Changfeng turned to Wang Junyi and posed a question: "Aren't you intending to step in and lend assistance?"
Although phrased as an inquiry, Su Changfeng's subtle directive was clear to Wang Junyi. It appeared his master expected him to take action!
Confident in his abilities, especially with a Four-star Beast and a few allies present, Wang Junyi moved forward.
Shen Rushuang expressed mild surprise, genuinely not expecting such altruism from Wang Junyi. However, she mused that if he were truly aiming for the Horned Rabbit, this was hardly the optimal moment.
In her estimation, the most advantageous strategy would be to strike decisively when both parties were severely weakened from exhaustion.
"How foolish, what purpose does intervening now serve?" Shen Rushuang scoffed derisively as she observed Wang Junyi advancing.
As Wang Junyi drew closer, the opposing group eyed him with evident suspicion. At such a crucial juncture, they were naturally reluctant to permit interference from outsiders.
"Who exactly are you?"
"We discovered this Horned Rabbit first. Do you intend to meddle?"
"Indeed, be gone with you!"
Each individual scrutinized Wang Junyi with apprehensive gazes, fearing his direct involvement.
"Rest assured, I have no intention of competing with you. However, facing a creature like this, a group of your size is unlikely to prevail. My participation should significantly enhance our chances," Wang Junyi stated with a smile.
His declaration did little to assuage their concerns. After all, this exotic beast was a prize they all coveted, and the notion of gratuitous assistance seemed improbable. The potential reward – taming the Horned Rabbit to join the ranks of the Horned Rabbit squad – was a temptation few could resist.
"Who are you, precisely? And what is your current cultivation rank?" one person pressed.
"I am Wang Junyi, the son of the City Lord of Tianshui City. My rank is Fourth Rank," Wang Junyi replied, his tone laced with a discernible degree of pride.
He acknowledged that prior to his recent advancements, such a statement would have lacked the necessary confidence, but his newfound Fourth Rank status changed everything.
"Wang Junyi? The one who ascended two ranks overnight!"
Exchanging knowing glances, they registered profound astonishment on each other's faces. It was evident they were all aware of Wang Junyi's remarkable feat of rapid progression.
Wang Junyi beamed, remarking, "I presume you are not natives of Tianshui City? It seems my reputation has preceded me even to your locales."
"A two-rank ascent in a single night; whispers abound of a master's guidance. Is this truly the case? How is it that we remained unaware? When did Tianshui City produce such a prodigy?" another individual inquired with palpable eagerness, their interest seemingly outweighing the pursuit of the Horned Rabbit.
This reaction was entirely comprehensible, as the benefits of personal cultivation advancement far surpassed the gains from acquiring exotic beasts.
Wang Junyi merely offered a knowing smile in response, refraining from speaking.
He reasoned that if Su Changfeng's formidable capabilities were widely known, disciples from surrounding cities would flock to seek his tutelage. In such a scenario, he would no longer be the sole apprentice under his master's wing.
"Enough pleasantries, let us focus on dispatching this Horned Rabbit swiftly," Wang Junyi urged.
They advanced as one, their movements encircling the Horned Rabbit.
With the formidable power of Wang Junyi, a Fourth Rank cultivator, now bolstering their efforts, the tide of battle turned decisively. Encased within their coordinated assault, even the agile Horned Rabbit found itself unable to evade their attacks.
Before long, the Horned Rabbit sustained several injuries, its once-swift movements noticeably decelerating.
"Alright, that’s enough. I won’t be participating further." Seeing that the Horned Rabbit had mostly lost its combat ability, Wang Junyi knew when to stop and briskly withdrew from the encirclement.
These people obviously didn’t expect Wang Junyi would really leave so abruptly, genuinely showing no intention of competing with them, causing them to slightly relax.
Wang Junyi smiled at Su Changfeng, his brows showing some pride, seemingly waiting for Su Changfeng to praise him.
Su Changfeng’s mouth twitched and rolled his eyes at him, his gaze returning to the encircled Horned Rabbit.
When the Horned Rabbit had completely lost its ability to resist, Su Changfeng noticed the group whispered a bit among themselves. Then one person came over and made some gestures towards the Horned Rabbit, causing it to suddenly become obedient.
"What gestures did he make? It seems like the Horned Rabbit became suddenly obedient?" Upholding the fine tradition of asking when in doubt, Su Changfeng asked.
Wang Junyi was about to explain when Shen Rushuang beat him to it.
"That’s a seal. It allows the master to easily decide the life and death of the exotic beast. The Horned Rabbit knows its life hangs in balance, so it naturally becomes subservient." Shen Rushuang said flatly.
"So that’s how it is! But this isn’t really taming, it’s more like a threat." Su Changfeng replied.
Shen Rushuang glanced at Su Changfeng disdainfully at his words, "Why bother? It’s just a beast, do you really need to reason with them?"
As Shen Rushuang spoke, Su Changfeng clearly felt the Little White Snake on his arm becoming restless, seeming quite disagreeable to Shen Rushuang’s words.
Su Changfeng gently patted his arm, signaling the little creature not to get upset, thinking it wasn’t worth arguing with this woman.
"Shen Rushuang, from your words, it seems you don’t think much of these exotic beasts. So why do you still use them to elevate your status? What you’re doing is truly laughable." Su Changfeng chuckled softly.
Shen Rushuang’s expression slightly changed. "What do you mean? I am human, they are just beasts. Is there a need for comparison?"
"But to Xingluo, exotic beasts are far more important than humans, right? Xingluo values beast tamers, and you know why. Don’t tell me you don’t know." Su Changfeng retorted disdainfully.
"You're wrong!" Shen Rushuang snapped, her face flushed.
"Am I wrong? Then you tell me, why has Xingluo put so much emphasis on beast tamers?" Su Changfeng asked.
"Can’t you see? The power struggles within Xingluo are extremely fierce." Shen Rushuang replied.
"The way I see it, the higher ups are too concerned with the fight for power." Su Changfeng said.
"A total of 3,000 people who participated in the competition this time around, all of them have to be in the top 100 positions?" Shen Rushuang questioned.
"There are only 100 spots available for the competition." Su Changfeng clarified.
"You are mistaken. You are wrong." Shen Rushuang quickly corrected.
"I am mistaken?" Su Changfeng echoed incredulously.
"Yes, you are mistaken." Shen Rushuang insisted.
"How are there 100 spots?" Su Changfeng continued to inquire.
"There are 100 spots for the first round, 50 for the second round, 20 for the third round, 10 for the fourth round, and 5 spots for the final round!" Shen Rushuang revealed.
"It’s that complicated?" Su Changfeng asked, surprised.
"It’s not complicated at all. It’s standard procedure." Shen Rushuang answered.
Su Changfeng couldn’t help but laugh. "Oh, this is standard procedure, is it? I didn’t know that."
Shen Rushuang shot him a freezing glare. "Stop laughing!"
"Why should I stop? You are the one who is wrong." Su Changfeng retorted.
"My information is completely correct." Shen Rushuang declared, her voice trembling slightly with anger.
"Is that so?" Su Changfeng inquired.
"Yes, it is." Shen Rushuang confirmed.
"Then, why are you talking about the competition details in such a roundabout manner?" Su Changfeng interrogated.
"I was just stating it clearly." Shen Rushuang answered, avoiding his gaze.
"The competition is about to begin, and there are many unknowns." Su Changfeng remarked.
"Then, let’s all hope for the best." Shen Rushuang replied, her face obscured by a veil.
"Yes, let’s hope for the best." Su Changfeng agreed.
