Shen Rushuang attempted to coerce Su Changfeng into revealing how Wang Junyi advanced his rank by drugging his food with an aphrodisiac. Su Changfeng saw through her scheme and refused to yield, locking himself away after mocking her desperate measures.

Shen Rushuang felt no anger; the potion's effects had only just started to manifest. She was confident that Su Changfeng would soon be crawling to her, perhaps even divulging the secret behind Wang Junyi's rank advancement.

"Su Changfeng, I refuse to believe you can endure this," Shen Rushuang declared, a wicked grin spreading across her face.

Beside Shen Rushuang, the maid stood with her head lowered, too afraid to utter a sound. She understood that her mistress would never handle such matters personally, increasing the likelihood that she would be tasked with it as her mistress's personal attendant.

However, as a mere maid, she was incapable of defying her owner's commands. The moment Shen Rushuang gave the order, she would have no recourse but to comply.

"Go back and change into something alluring, wear less," Shen Rushuang instructed the maid.

The maid's mind went completely blank. Though she had long harbored suspicions, hearing the words directly from her mistress's lips sent a chill down her spine.

"Yes, Miss."

Soon, the maid reappeared, adorned in diaphanous silk. Her graceful movements ignited a spark within the guards who observed her.

Shen Rushuang nodded in approval and gestured, saying, "Go now, and you know what I expect you to uncover."

"Yes," the maid responded, bowing her head slightly before pushing open the door and stepping inside.

At this juncture, the maid felt a tremor of apprehension. After all, she was still a maiden, and taking such initiative made it difficult to remain composed.

Yet, she was helpless. She was but a lowly maid, unable to disobey her mistress's direct orders.

"Su Changfeng, the mistress insists you be truthful. If you cooperate, you won't have to endure this torment," the maid said, looking at Su Changfeng.

Su Changfeng remained seated, his eyes shut tight, veins pulsing on his forehead; he was clearly in agony.

A triple dose was an overwhelming amount for an ordinary person to withstand, but by sheer luck, Su Changfeng possessed a robust constitution; otherwise, he would have surely succumbed by now.

"Send her away," Su Changfeng commanded, his voice steely.

"This potent concoction was prepared by Tianshui City's finest alchemist. No one can save you now, save for begging the mistress herself," the maid felt compelled to remind him.

Sweat poured from Su Changfeng, his body trembling as he fought to maintain control, yet the full force of the drug had yet to peak. Despite his precarious hold on consciousness, he refused to yield to such crude tactics or grovel before that woman.

"Inform Shen Rushuang that I will not let this go unanswered. Every action has its reaction; the Shen family will eventually pay the price!" Su Changfeng declared, his tone chilling.

Pay the price!

The maid's body quivered slightly. She instinctively glanced at Su Changfeng, and the sheer ferocity in his eyes, akin to a cornered beast, sent a jolt of primal fear through her.

For a considerable time, not only Shen Rushuang but even the maid herself had dismissed Su Changfeng as inconsequential. Yet tonight, for reasons unknown, an unsettling dread washed over her when she looked at him, a fear she struggled, with little success, to suppress.

"Su Changfeng, defying the mistress will bring you no good. Are you truly seeking your own demise?" the maid took a sharp breath, her voice gaining a semblance of resolve.

A cold smirk touched Su Changfeng's lips as he retorted, "Has Shen Rushuang considered that by repeatedly crossing me, the Shen family courts utter annihilation? Leave, or I will kill you."

Unable to withstand the palpable killing intent radiating from Su Changfeng, the maid turned and fled the room in haste.

"Miss, he... he..." The maid, a mixture of terror and fright in her eyes, stumbled back to Shen Rushuang.

Shen Rushuang's expression darkened as she fixed her gaze on the doorway. She had not missed Su Changfeng's pronouncements.

Pay the price, annihilation of the Shen family?

Those words alone were enough to provoke Shen Rushuang into a rage, a desire to storm in and end Su Changfeng herself. She couldn't quite articulate why, but despite his apparent weakness, she detected an unprecedented, formidable threat emanating from him.

It was as if his ominous words held a premonition of future events, destined to unfold.

If she intended to eliminate Su Changfeng, this was undoubtedly an opportune moment. Yet, Shen Rushuang wavered. If she were to dispatch Su Changfeng too readily, the secret behind Wang Junyi's advancement would be lost forever.

Her brother harbored an insatiable thirst for power, and no matter the cost, she had to ascertain the truth from Su Changfeng.

Shen Rushuang cast a glance at the maid. Though scantily clad, her figure was alluring, but her beauty paled in comparison. It appeared that this night, Shen Rushuang herself would have to make a personal sacrifice.

Clenching her teeth, Shen Rushuang strode purposefully into the room.

The maid watched in disbelief, crying out, "Miss, don't be reckless!"

But Shen Rushuang paid no heed, continuing her determined path inside. Though inexperienced in such matters, she was acutely aware of the dire consequences should Su Changfeng lose all semblance of control.

Nevertheless, she displayed no fear; for the sake of uncovering the truth and aiding Shen Yunlong’s advancement, the risk was deemed acceptable. She understood that on the path to greatness, sacrifices were often unavoidable, and she was prepared for it.

"Su Changfeng, as long as you are willing to confide in me, I can assist you and alleviate this torment," Shen Rushuang declared, approaching Su Changfeng from above.

Su Changfeng remained seated with his eyes tightly shut; at this juncture, he lacked the fortitude to face any woman, fearing a loss of self-control.

"Shen Rushuang, you should depart," Su Changfeng managed to say through clenched teeth.

"If you persist in enduring this, your only outcome is to bleed from your seven orifices until you perish. Do you feel no fear?" Shen Rushuang questioned.

A fiery sensation raged within Su Changfeng, his blood vividly boiling. Shen Rushuang spoke the truth; continuing to withstand this agony might indeed lead to his death by bleeding. Yet, even in this dire state, his thoughts were fixated on Shen Hanxue and Ye Nianhai, rendering him incapable of betraying them.

"Do you presume this can subjugate me? You harbor a gross underestimation of my will," Su Changfeng retorted.

Shen Rushuang offered no verbal reply, but instead, she reached out and began to remove her outer garment. Su Changfeng, with his eyes still sealed shut, heard the distinct rustling sound, his mind spiraling into a state of dizziness.

"If that is your stance, then let us see if you dare to look upon me," Shen Rushuang taunted, deliberately provocative.

Su Changfeng’s fists clenched with immense force. Suddenly, a wave of heat surged at the tip of his nose, and a trickle of warm blood began to flow.

At that precise moment, Shen Yunlong burst into the chamber.

Shen Yunlong had been unaware of Shen Rushuang’s stratagem until informed by the servants, prompting his urgent arrival. Fortunately, he found the situation still manageable, which eased the heavy burden in his heart.

"Rushuang, what reckless actions are you undertaking?" Shen Yunlong demanded, his tone frigid.

"Brother, this individual genuinely possesses knowledge of Wang Junyi’s secret to rank advancement; I am resolved to uncover it today," Shen Rushuang responded.

A sense of pity welled up within Shen Yunlong; he could scarcely comprehend the lengths to which Shen Rushuang would go for his sake. Despite this admiration, he fervently wished she would not be compelled to such a profound sacrifice.

Grasping his sister’s hand, Shen Yunlong stated, "Let us depart immediately. If the secret necessitates such a cost, I would rather remain ignorant."
